Appearance is excellent. I t pours a nice a nice hazy orange-brown with a very thick creamy offwhite heady that hangs around for a while.

Smell is a not strong but is a a light citrus and malty smell

Taste is good, but nothing exceptional. very light flavor with plenty of maltyness and some sesame and rye like flavors during the finish.

Mouthfeel is light and its slightly more fizzy than usual. nice.

Overall an average beer. Looking forward to try more beer of this concept from Rogue and other brewers.

A: Glowing golden yellow, short pale white head with weak retention. Moderate lacing.

S: Smooth hops, pine, yeast and lemon zest. Sugared fruits and some malt. Overall, light aroma.

T/M: Bitter hops, yeast and sugared fruits. Hop and lemon zest are bitter while the fruitiness is sweet. Nice balance. Not much more to the flavor, relatively flat. Light bodied with medium carbonation.

D: Decent.

Clear pale straw colour with a small white head.

Slightly citrussy hop aroma with a touch of pine. Nothing special.

Earthy, piney bitterness with no real malt character. A touch of citrus. This is a little disappointing.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Fine.

An okay beer but it lacks finesse and complexity. Ok.

A: The pour is a slightly cloudy golden orange color with a finger's worth of white foam.

S: The nose is nose is primarily sweet and bready malt, but it is not all that powerful. There are also some mild spicy and floral hop aromas.

T: A sweet and bready malt backbone defines this beer with plenty of piney and bitter hops with some light citrus.

M: The body is medium with plentiful carbonation that is slightly creamy on the tongue.

D: This isn't normally my favorite style, but this wasn't too bad for a blonde. I was pleasantly surprised by the bitterness.

First Growth Single Malt Ale is a blonde ale that comes to us in a 22 oz. bomber. It pours a slightly hazy yellow, with a billowing, creamy white head. The nose is light citrus with a mild and floral hop presence.

This beer begins with a light toastiness from the grains and but then delivers some great citrus notes and a hop kick in a bitter, crisp finish. It’s very bright, but at the same time, also earthy. The PacMan yeasts even give it sort of an English ale dimension. This is a medium-body beer with lots of carbonation and a slight creaminess.

A very easy drinking beer; simple in its flavors, but I think it does what it intended to do; showcase the freshness of the ingredients and the essence of beer itself. I’m really looking forward to trying other selections from the Chatoe.

Bright golden/straw color and medium head. Inviting appearance. Smells bready and yeasty. Good lacing. Very light mouthfeel. Refreshing. Malty with light floral hops, but tasty hop flavor. No booziness. A little bit of bitterness in the finish.

Overall: This beer is very refreshing and is overall, enjoyable. It has all the elements you’re looking for: maltiness, hoppiness, bitterness. However, the mouthfeel is soooo light, and the bitterness so mellow, that it lacks the profoundness necessary to raise it to the next level. Tasty hop flavor, though light. I would definitely appreciate this beer on a hot day or when I need a good swig of something refreshing, but it is not a real standout.

22 oz bomber poured into pint glasses.

Medium amber pour with a touch on the lighter side. Immense cascading white foam. 2 fingers of it settles slowly.

Faint malt hop blend smell. Nondescript.

Tastes like a Lite Pale Ale if such a thing exists. Hop throughout, but not domninant. Well blended.

Light in the mouthfeel. Small bitter remnants.

Good drinker, nice brew, great concept.

Bomber into pint glass.

A: Vibrant golden orange color. It's opaque with some sediment floating around. I got a nice thick off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Good lacing.

S: Smells of fresh cut grass, lemon, grains, and apple.

T: Very malty with crisp notes of lemon, apple, and grass. Hop bitterness is fairly minimal. Overall refreshing and enjoyable taste.

M: Creamy, yet almost light body. As with the taste, the body amplifies the refreshing quality of this brew.

O: I like the idea of these Chatoe Rogue beers.

This particular one is overall refreshing, balanced, and enjoyable. However, nothing really stands out. It's about average to slightly above average for the category.

Lightly hazy straw yellow with about a fingers worth of bubbly white head. Head disappears down to nothing but tiny swirls. Grainy (an extremely pale malt), grassy flowers. Flavor is crisp and carbonated biscuit malts, which are very pale but on the caramel lightly toasted side. Hops character is huge with floral grassy hops starting to creep in right after the first couple seconds. Some fruity hop notes start the finish but it becomes grassy and overly dry. At first the finish had great flavor changes but finishes off too dry.

Poured into a pint glass.

A- Light crisp and hard to describe hop aroma.

A- Pours a very light golden color. Stock white head. Very mild haze that fades with warming.

F- Crisp almost sharp flavor that reminds me of a pilsner. Firm bitterness that seems a little out of line for the amount of body present.

M- High average carbonation.

O- A cool idea and a nice drinking beer. There's not too much that jumps out at me in the beer, but I do love the idea that it is from their hops and their malt. Keep it up guys!

Bought a bottle of this from the Rogue Garage Sale at the Rogue brewpub near Portland State University.

I opted for this over two of the other BYO Rogues present at the sale because I prefer a straight ale over a rye or a black lager.

Pours a honey yellow with a good medium think white head and decent lacing.

The aroma is pleasant - nice and floral; however, the malt really comes through and colors the whole scent. The same can be said of the flavor. At first taste straight from the fridge, the malts seemed really downplayed. It came across as a nice light and floral golden ale with the Revolution hops really shining through. As the beer began to warm up, the Dare malt began to show its face; very biscuity. The after taste reminds me vaguely of a Lagunitas IPA.

This beer is super drinkable. A nice beer to have on hot summer day (like today). Not very interesting, but that's probably the idea with a SMASH like this. If I could find this for $2.00 again, I'd buy it.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a fizzy white head that leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smells of sweet malts and grain.

Tastes of a good dose of graininess and light hops. Hops give a faint lemony flavor. Malts are honey like in sweetness and offer a certain graininess as well. Some peppery spiciness comes through as well. Finishes fairly dry.

Mouthfeel is light-medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.
