After reading all I have about this beer, I was expecting a bold and standout stout brewed by Rogue, the makers of my absolute favorite nut brown ale...
A Very dark brown in color, with slight light coming through. A light khaki brown 2 finger head from pour, with very little carbonation that dies down to a thin layer after a few minutes with some nice lacing.
S Dark cherries, plum, and an assortment of other darker fruits, but these were the two that hit my nose the most, nothing too overpowering. Some good scents of caramel and vanilla, and some bitter hops coming through the end of the nose.
T Really disappointed, perhaps I purchased a bad bottle? Bitter chocolate, ripe dark cherries, dry bitter roasted coffee, and some weaker hops that follow on the end. Not as malty as I had been wishing for, but there is some creaminess to this stout.
Good, not excellent but good, not my first choice for a stout, but would definitley try again, gonna throw one in the cellar and see how it tastes after a year, hopefully some of the bitter tastes mellow out a little bit
2nd REVIEW: better after sitting for a little bit creamier more stout like, and much more enjoyable, just goes to show the importance of serving a beer at the right temperature

Can't believe I haven't rated this. Pours nearly black under a large, lumpy tan head. The foam settles to a solid sheet in the surface; minor lacing. Smells of dark malt, subtle oats, roasted barely, and earthy hops with a slight soapy/floral note. Lots of chocolaty roast in the flavor and some citrusy hop bitterness. Creamy smooth, not quite full bodied, but appropriate for the style. I imagine I would have rated this one higher years ago, but hey, it's still a classic. Good, hoppy stout.
