A flowing river of liquid onyx
Conjures forth a creamy cap of white foam.
Through the deepest darkness no light dares mix,
As it quickly speeds by the glass to home.
Scents of roasted malt, cocoa, and Cascades
Combine with coffee, barley and some earth.
On my tongue, bouquet’s promise never fades,
As these many flavors are given birth.
Rich and smooth as a girl’s unfurrowed brow,
Yet with body enough to satisfy.
This stout is not sweet, this I will allow.
But now this beer is gone. I want to cry.
What, I wonder would old Will Shakespeare think?
I’m not sure, but this stout I’ll gladly drink.
