Appearance: Pours a beautiful ebony body with a nice tan head that sticks very well. Interestingly enough, as you swirl the beer to rouse more head, it gets darker around the edges. Cool...
Smell: Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and cascade hops. Great aroma!
Taste: Here's where it get's strange. There's a lot of malt flavor in here, but I think they use way too much cascade hops. It's out of balance and inappropriate for the style. Bear in mind, it's not hop bitterness, it's hop 'flavor.' However, I still like this beer very much. It's one of my 'regulars' and will continue to be, despite it's balance flaw.
Mouthfeel: Has a good chewy mouthfeel to it. A 22oz bottle of this on a cold night has a very nourishing effect.
Drinkability: Well, it is a strong stout, so don't expect to kill pint after pint, but it's extremely drinkable for it's style. The mouthfeel is just right...not thin, not soup-in-a-glass.
To sum up, I think this is an amazing beer, and one that I always grab at least one bottle of when the weekend comes. Having said that, I think it could be improved upon by going easier on the hops.
