Red bomber poured into game of thrones snifter.

Has a good look upon first pour - somewhat decent lacing - nothing to get too excited about. Good aroma - better than other chocolate stouts I have tried, not overpowering and incredibly fake like Choklat or others. Lots of roasted malt and chocolate syrup and cocoa. Taste is similar with a slight bitterness to it. Not bad at all.

From that bright red 750 ml. bomber. Sampled on April 11, 2014.

The pour is a deep dark brown with a lasting tan head. Pretty opaque and no light gets through.

The aroma is clearly of dark, roasted baking chocolate with a muted hop character. Sweet too. Appealing and what one would expect from a double chocolate.

The body is about medium with a slight acidity.

The taste begins with a full chocolate malt attack that is followed momentarily by a slightly bitter and dry finale. This deserves the high ratings it is getting. I'd have it often if I could afford to.

22oz red paint bottle to my Stone IRS snifter glass
Notes taken from 04/05/14

A: Dark espresso brown body completely impervious to any light. A thick billow of dark khaki cream forms giving quite the impressive hang time. Has a few random large gas bubbles in an otherwise nicely compacted head. Some slippery swaths of lace left sliding down the glass at each sip.

S: Smells of chocolate malts, dark roast grains, and milk chocolate chips. More so like melted Hershey’s chocolate candies. Aroma really does come together like malted milk balls. Delivers as advertised although it is more candy like rather than say raw cacao.

T: Big fake chocolate candy flavor. Like melted candies with a thick and powdery chocolate malt ball presence. Not particularly roasty minus a hint of coffee in there. Fairly sweet but not at all cloying like you would expect. Finishes out with some earthy green bitterness on the back end. Alcohol is well masked and bitterness is moderate to low. Doesn’t taste natural to me has more of a tootsie roll flavor. A little tough to drink in its entirety.

M: Full to medium body. Frothy and smooth for the most part with some of that chalky cocoa powder presence. Finish has a nice drying lift and the retreat is fairly clean.

D: Not a very big fan and looks like I may be in the minority here. I prefer stouts where the chocolate flavor is derived mainly from the specialty dark roast malts and/or natural cocoa. This just comes off as Swiss Miss or something artificial. How is no one else getting that? Even though it states Natural Flavors added who knows what that entails.

The bomber was a bit of a chore to finish. Ice Cream is the correct answer.

A - Pitch black with the suggestion of ruby tinge. The head is chunky however I'd prefer it to be foamy mass rather than a cluster of larger, distinct bubbles.

S - Toffee and fudge brownies. Sweet malted bread with chocolate and raisins.

T - Chocolate does not make any more of an appearance than it does in a non-chocolate stout. I found it astringent and really rather bitter. The sweet touch promised by the nose is absent; if anything it tastes slightly soapy.

M - Lacks that rich, luxurious, velvet-cloak mouthfeel you get with something like Victory at Sea. Carbonation and body are medium.

O - I was hoping for an intensified Young's or Sam Smith's but this is not that beer. It's much more of a regular imperial stout, but sadly not one that I particularly enjoyed.

Poured almost black body with two finger head and no lace. Aroma is dominated by dark chocolate, bordering on Hershey's chocolate syrup from when I was a kid (I guess there is some milk/lactose or something in there). Not bready but sticky and chewy, full-bodied, wouldn't characterize this beer as chocolate milk with booze added to it but this is definitely a sweet beer that also has a husky, dry bitter chocolate, roasted even, malt presence to balance the beer and give it a dry, warming edge.

An excellent example of the chocolate stout category, it just displays chocolate in every aspect. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is one can never have enough chocolate in a brew that represents such a amazing food. Definitely recommend this whether your a fist time tester or weathered veteran in the micro brew field
