Bottle, no date:
The pour is pretty much pitch black, with a decent deep tan medium-bubble head that dissipates to a film and collects on the edges providing some lacing. Initial notes from a cold beer is chocolate and deep roasted malts. As the beer warms, I get vanilla, cocoa, and maybe nutmeg (or some other holiday baking spice).

The initial sips from a too-cold beer definitely reminded me this was a Rogue beer. The malts were there, but a woody (pine) bitterness helped signified this a West Coast style beer. As the beer warmed, the flavors mellowed, as they normally do. The front tastes are a hint of chocolate but more a nice, bitter French Roast coffee. The middle taste does add a light nuttiness behind the dark malt flavors, before finishing dry, almost reminiscent of cocoa powder. Overall, this is a bitter beer, just a coffee bitter instead of a grass, pine, or grapefruit one.

In the end, I think this reminds me of a lot of other Rogue beers, nothing quite bad, but it's missing something that makes me want it over and over. I miss some sort of sweetness somewhere in the beer to balance the bitter, if even for a moment.

OH. MY. G-D.

This may well be one of the most insanely great things I've ever tasted.

Appearance : dark & lovely
Smell : rich, heavenly chocolate
Taste : rich, heavenly chocolate
Mouthfeel : creamy, luscious chocolate

Long story short: I'd your like beer and chocolate, you NEED to try this. Now. Get up, find a place that has it on tap, and buy it. You won't regret it. The only thing you'll regret is that you'll eventually finish the glass.

Got this for my birthday. Super excited to try it!

A - super dark brown, almost black. Looks smooth as hell, with a a thick head.

S- Very malty and chocolatey. Most chocolate smelling beer I've had, to date.

T- Delicious. The hops stand out more than expected, but Double Chocolate is definitely a chocolate lovers kind of beer.

M- Very smooth. Not as heavy as most flavorful stouts tend to be. Mouthfeel is a lot like Guinness.

O- Wonderful. Enjoyed it with a piece of red velvet cake, and it was a perfect pairing. I suppose this could be enjoyed with a nice steak as well, but I'm quite sure this was meant to be drank with desert. Cheers, gents! Time to pour another glass.
