Poured into a Maudite snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. Healthy two finger medium brown head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, light toasted malt, and cocoa. Flavor follows, with very well integrated chocolate, dark and toasted malt, like a creamy whipped chocolate milk with benefits. Finish slightly dry with residual chocolate and light hops; a touch astringent but the other full flavors make up for it. Medium bodied with great creaminess. Very nicely done, an excelllent chocolate stout and one I will return to in the future.

Double Chocolate Stout by Rogue is currently my favorite beer. The flavor is dark chocolate without being too sweet. The creaminess and bold flavor combined with high alcohol content make this the perfect beer any time of day or night. This beer made me fall in love with the versatility of the stout. Thanks Rogue!

$11.20 for the 750ml bottle, 8.7% abv.

It pours a pitch black with a 2 finger head of tan foam, leaving some nice lacing behind.

Huge dark chocolate and milk chocolate in the smell. I'd say about a 50-50 split.

The taste is chocolate supreme..both bitter and sweet. An amped up version of their Chocolate Stout but the extra alcohol is hardly noticeable.

Full bodied with a very creamy mouthfeel. Man, Rogue excels when it comes to beer with chocolate!

Appearance: very dark, some faint brown highlights. Pretty impressive mocha head.
Smell: rich chocolate...duh. Reminds of a fudge brownie.
Taste: more of the same. Not getting the complexity I read in many of the top reviewers. Probably my immature palate. But it's damn good. Rich chocolate brownie. Alcohol justisn't perceptible.
Overall: Very fine brew. I gotta give the edge to Southern Tier Choklat but this is damn good.

Poured from the bottle into a large snifter glass.

A simple thin collar light mocha head, leaves a good whispy trace on top, not filmy, settling to a solid collar. Body appears to be a classic walnut black color, extremely opaque and dark.

Mellow nose, of soft malts. Chocolate angle on this is not very obvious. No sweetness, not even a sense of bitterness, cocoa really masked but hiding. Some mellow notes of milk and chocolate angle gets more obvious as the brew warms. You do have to bury your nose a bit though.

Palate brings a good deliverance, and a good worthy name. Thick almost ganache like chocolate waffing in the mid palate. Body is almost a little wet, but the flavors travel all throughout even giving an anise quality on the finish. Some very interesting prickly tart carbonation on this too. Lip coating.

Overall an interesting product from the Rogue, worthy of multiple sips.
