Had this on tap at Red’s Alehouse in North Liberty, IA. A really great chocolate beer that actually puts emphasis on some chocolate flavor. Chocolatey aroma really stands out. Appearance is a chocolate color and dark tan head. Flavor is sweet, but not overly with lots of chocolate and a moderately bitter hops finish. Overall, an amazing beer.

Poured from bottle into Mad Elf chalice glass

A- Motor oil black body with a glorious two and a half finger, pillowy, mocha-colored head.

S- A heavy chocolate astrigency...sweet chocolate syrup aroma is dominant to me with notes of milk chocolate and malt peeking in there. So chocolatey its amazing.

T- It has a bitterness from the hops up front followed by the chocolate. Some hints of oat peek in there as well. Bitterness lingers a little bit on the back end. Not as chocolately in the tase as in the nose, but still nice.

M- Heavy-bodied beer that leaves an oily coating on the mouth and throat with each swallow. Well done.

O- This is a top notch chocolate stout that is up there in that elite class with Southern Tier Choklat. The only thing that could be improved is that the bitterness could be toned down to really let the chocolate come alive more in the taste. All in all, a standout chocolate stout by any measure.

A: Pours a pitch black color with a pinkies worth of mocha head that retains well

S: Milk chocolate dominates, along with hints of roasted malt

T: Again, dominated by the milk chocolate. More roasted malts come out here, along with some bite from the hops. The alcohol is extremely well hidden, although obviously a little more prevalent than in the regular chocolate stout

M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Very creamy and smooth going down

O: This is just a re-vamped version of the original chocolate stout, but I'm certainly not complaining. The alcohol boost gives it another level of complexity while retaining the chocolate goodness of the original. Great job by not killing the original yet creating another monster in itself

A: Pours a pretty deep pitch black in color with a thin deep brown dome froth.

S: This is a great smelling beer of insanity chocolate

T: Honestly the best way i could describe this beer is like drinking a girl scouts thin mint cookie with a piny hoppiness to complement the rich chocolate flavor.

M: Thick creamy and chewy without being overly sweet in texture. Low alcohol heat allows for the buds to be enriched by the full flavor offered by the beer.

O: Pleasantly impressed by the rich chocolate that comes through. Haven't had an Imperial Stout like this before. Quite refreshing in comparison to others of the same style.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours pitch black with three full fingers of light brown head. This beer is extremely well carbonated. Retention is great - the thick foam seems to just sit on top of the black beer. A pretty beer indeed.

S: Strong milk chocolate, a touch of bitter hoppiness and roastiness. Milk chocolate certainly dominates this beer, though.

T: Strong milk chocolate dominates again, but the taste is much more complex than the aroma. Dark chocolate is much more evident, so is roastiness and bitterness. The flavor is very well balanced between sweet and bitter, though it is still definitely a sweet milk chocolate beer. As I keep drinking, bitter hoppiness is more and more apparent.

M: Medium to thick with high carbonation. Solid.

O: I'm pleasantly surprised by this beer. The sweet milk chocolate mixes well with hop bitterness and slight dark chocolate flavor. I still wouldn't call this beer overly complex, but it's solid.

Split a 750ml, poured into my duvel snifter

A- black with a fabulous looking 2 finger creamy chocolate head. Thick lacing, a great lookin beer

S- does not dissapoint, smells like creamy milk chocolate with notes of bitter dark chocolate and a bit of roastiness. But overall it's chocolate chocolate chocolate.

T- milk chocolate, very similar to the nose, like a chocolate frappe with a hint of roastyness, very well done, not overly sweet, so it's not a desert beer, but super chocolaty all the same.

M- full bodied with low/medium carbonation, very drinkable for its body, abv is well hidden and listed @ 9% on this bottle as apposed to the 8% listed above. creamy and delicious

O- an excellent chocolate stout, living up to its name, perfect carbonation and mouthfeel, excellent chocolate stout, i loved it and think it deffinatly sets the bar for this style.

Poured from 22oz bottle into Globe glass.

A. Pours a massive 4 finger very dark tan colored head. Great retention. Thick lacing. Color is all black. Nice looking stout.

S. Coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, roasted malt. Very nice chocolate aromas. This is a good smelling stout. Nice mocha coffee aroma. Thick and luscious smell.

T. Taste is a little more bitter than I was expecting. Bitter dark chocolate and coffee. On the back of the tongue there is more milk chocolate. More chocolatey goodness comes out as it warms. No trace of alcohol really at all.

M. Medium/full bodied. Medium carbonation. Lovely chocolatey sweetness lingers on the tongue.

O. Overall, I have to admit that I am a sucker for chocolate. This beer delivers chocolate without turning it into a piece of candy or worse. Alcohol is well hidden, and this is easy drinking. The challenge in a chocolate stout is giving chocolate flavor without ending up with a tootsy roll in a bottle. Rogue has done that.

A: Pitch black with a huge brown colored head that laces the side of the glass.

S: Just like the original, a nice milky chocolate aroma, roasted malt and a touch of hop.

T: Pure sweet milk chocolate flavor up front that fades into the fresh ground coffee and roasted malt flavors. Finish is somewhat bitter from the burnt malt with a touch of hop. The alcohol shows up just a bit in the finish with a little flavor and warmth.

M: Heavy body with a creamy, smooth feel. Very drinkable.

O: The alcohol flavor and warmth do detract from the flavors of the original, but that is to be expected. It still has the pure flavors of the chocolate stout though.
