Surprisingly citrusy, with enough bready malt backbone to counter the slightly bitter finish. Juniper doesn't overwhelm, but complements the citrus nicely.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 04.01.14.

A: See through yellow/orange. No head.

S: Caramel, maybe tangerine. Very sweet and fruity smelling.

T: Caramel, citrus, juniper berry dominate. Has some bitterness on the back end.

M: Crisp.

O: This was an ok beer. It wasn't bad, but wasn't complex or very interesting. I've had better beers with juniper added.

Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: Rusty tangerine body, light cream colored head with good retention. Light webbed lacing.

Aroma: Sweet malts up front, slight berry tart, faint hop bitterness.

Taste: A good blend of juniper berry tart and citrus coating over the sweeter malt profile. Well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, slightly dry.

Overall: Really solid, would be easy to session.

12oz bottle.

Appearance: Nice golden color, slightly hazy

Smell: Relatively strong - herbal, sweet.

Taste: Pleasantly bitter, with a strong flavor of (what I think) is the juniper. Remains complex throughout.

Overall: An interesting beer - I was not impressed at first but the tasted definitely grew on me.

I liked it! Almost no head on the golden-amber colored ale. Nose had bread-like maltiness with a background of spiciness and piney juniper berries. Taste was the best part, a wonderful balance of malt, hop and spice. A honey, bread malt invites you in, followed by the spice, very piney-notes that come from the conifer juniper berries. The berries are completed with some gentle, but noticeable hops, floral and citrusy in nature like a weak IPA which really wrap it up to a crisp and slightly bitter end to balance out the malt and sweetness present throughout.

I disagree with all the average reviews, this juniper ale was a well-balanced, juniper pine spices were quite noticeable, which went great with the honey malt flavors and the hops at the finish. Worth getting again.

A: mostly yellow. Thin, foamy head. Nice lacing.
S: meh. Smells like corona.
T: medium- light maltiness. Slightly sweet at the end. Piney hops. Not as much juniper as I expected.
M: mellow carbonation. Medium-light body.
O: decent. Lacking in aroma. Tastes fine.

A: Golden copper in color, with a nice transparency to it, has almost no head at all, and left just a tiny bit of lacing around the glass.

S: Strong hints of lemon zest and grapefruit, following with some pine notes as well, the hops were present on the nose, no juniper though.

T: The balance of the beer was not to bad, the lemon and citrus were present throughout, hints of pine on the tongue as well, slight breadyness also. Still no juniper, that I noticed at least.

M: Medium Bodied, good amount of carbonation.

O: Nothing great about this beer, easy drinker, but was expecting different flavors from the herbal notes but didnt find them.

Bottle: a standard brown 466mL bottle with the usual Rogue-style label.

Appearance: pours a clear amber in colour with a fluffy white head that drops quickly to a decent film. Great lacing down the glass.

Aroma: some bready aromas with a touch of berries and spice.

Taste: I'm not tasting the juniper tartness I was expecting - just a decent but standard pale ale with some hop bitterness.

Aftertaste: pretty much follows the taste, but with a bit more bitterness.

Mouth feel: a moderate body with just enouugh carbonation to carry the flavour.

Overall: once again an average beer from Rogue for an exhorbitant price. This is the third I've had, and the third that is way over-priced. I would compare this beer (at AU$140+ a case) to Matilda Bay's Fat Yak (at AU$52 a case).

Appearance - Pours a semi-clear, golden sunset orange with a white, near two-finger head. Good retention, leads to a broken, webbed layer of suds across the surface. Strong lacing left around the glass with nice stick.

Smell - White bready aroma with berry and spice notes.

Taste - Follows the nose. Clean malt bill allows the juniper to shine through with touches of berry fruitiness and a light spice bite. Notes of grassy bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with lively carbonation lends itself to a crisp, dry finish.

Overall - A good pale overall. Nothing mindblowing, but great balance in flavor and mouthfeel and entirely drinkable; quite quaffable.

Brown bomber with pry-off cap poured in a nonic pint glass.

Hazy, golden yellow in colour. White head is 1/2 inch on the pour and recedes to a thin cap with lots of lacing down the sides.

Aroma is mainly citrus (lemony) and herbal.

Flavour is pretty much the same as the aroma. Citrus, herbal, lemony with hints of malt.

Easy drinking and goes down smooth. Not overly bitter or hoppy. Medium bodied and moderately carbonated.

A really nice pale ale. Not overly complicated but well balanced and smooth. Drinkability is off the scale.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange zest, lemon zest, juniper berry, floral, grass, honey, biscuit, cracker, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop, malt, and juniper berry notes; with solid strength. Taste of orange zest, lemon zest, juniper berry, floral, grass, honey, biscuit, cracker, light pine, and floral earthiness. Slight floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon/orange zest, juniper berry, floral, grass, honey, cracker, biscuit, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of hop, malt, and juniper berry flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and slightly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice pale ale. Good balance of hop, malt, and juniper berry flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Had this beer for the first time tonight at a restaurant. This is a solid beer that went really well with my meal.

Poured golden into a standard pint glass. Had a very small white head that didn't last long.

Smells of juniper, honey, malt and slight fruitiness. Nice smell overall.

Taste is really clean and crisp. Upfront, I get a strong juniper flavor followed by honey, floral hops and citrus. Slight bitterness. Very drinkable.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Good carbonation.

I will definitely have this beer again. It's refreshing and I could easily put back several of these. Would like to try this one on draft.

Amber color with a thin head with medium retention, but keeping a constant ring.
Light aroma of juniper berries, honey and papaya.
Taste mostly follows nose, bitter flavor with notes of papaya, subtle juniper berries, caramel, apple puree, flowers, rogue yeast and biscuit malt. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
This beer is alright, though not at the same level as other Rogues. Nice to know how a beer with Juniper tastes, which was a more common ingredient in the past. The one I had a while ago seemed fresher with less papaya (this is due in 6 months).

12 oz. bottle poured into a tumbler

A- Pale goldenrod and unfiltered. Weak white head dies quickly.

S- Earthy evergreen comes out first in the nose. A hint of caramel and grainy malt.

T- Toasted malts with a bite of evergreen, I'm assuming the juniper. Bitterness is light.

M- Dull bitterness throughout, and the finish is long.

O- Just not that impressed with this one. The bitterness is dull and not that pleasant, and there isn't really much flavor.

Pours a bright gold with a small white head that doesnt last long.

Smell is basic pale ale. Floral hops, honey, juniper, and bit of maltiness.

Taste is clean as a whistle. Bright and crisp floral hops, vague juniper berry, some orange, and honey.

Mouthfeel is light as has a refreshing palate presence. Medium carbonation.

Overall a nice beer.

A: orange yellow colored with thick white head of foam

S: citrus, fruity, hop aroma, also I get a hint of honey from the smell

T: light, sweet, smooth, berries, honey, no bitterness

M: covers your palate with honey and fruit

O: It is a really enjoyable beer, reminds me of Spring time and has a great drink ability. I absolutely love this beer because it is surprisingly light, the experience I have with Rogue is usually a large big beer taste (which I typically favor). I like the strong fruit flavors from this beer.

Appearance: Golden color. Pale head with very little retention and very little lacing. Almost no visible carbonation.

Smell: Fruity and floral. Apple-like aroma.

Taste: Fruity and light with a slight apple flavor. No discernible pine flavor despite the juniper. Very dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Light, but highly carbonated.

Overall: Fruity and light. Not what I was expecting at all out of a winter seasonal brewed with juniper. Reminds me slightly of a witbier.

Pours hazy orange, low head, somewhat sticky.
Big herbal smell, definitely juniper berries, pine, citrus, ripe fruit and flowers, also caramel malts.
Big green herbs straight from the beginning, with tons of grass, pine and the juniper berries spicy, astringent and prickly. Big floral notes. Fruit is next, with peach, tangerine and red apple, but way weaker than the herbal notes. Spiciness is also pretty one-sided. Pale malts, with a light sweetness. The hops are really bitter in the finish, with a metallic aftertaste which i wasn't expecting and isn't too pleasant.
Drinks like a nice ale, medium carbonation. Really dry in the finish after a few more sips.
A decent new one for me, but can't say it rocked my world.

Juniper pale ale pours a darker golden color with a small lacing head. There is a dry fruity aroma, with a sharp malt notes. The taste has a sharp and strong malty backbone, with some juniper flavors coming through near the end, finishes dry, which I like. Good flavors, good body, but cheap beer base. Overall its almost a good beer, I like the juniper flavors, but the cheap beer base really hurts this.

poured from a bottle into a pint glass

hazy apple juice yellow with a thin large bubble head. smells pretty good, a little bit of crunchy fruit and a bit of grass - that might be the juniper - I'm not sure I would be able to pick out the juniper smell without knowing it was there already. likewise with the taste. i think i got some juniper flavor - but i was looking for it. tastes like a pilsner with a little bit of lawn clipping. i like it and would not turn one down, but as this isn't one of rogue's most common beers there will probably be something I'd prefer if I'm in a place that has it.

A: Yellow golden filtered, medium low carbonation, 5 fingers of light fluffy off white head that fades slowly with chunky lacing.

S: Juniper berries, skunk, malt.

T: Juniper berries, malt, American IPA hops, metallic, a clean bitter finnish.

M: Medium resinous body, medium low carbonation.

O: A unique American ale with some juniper flavours. Reminds me most of an American IPA with slightly more bittering hops. Love the bottle.

355ml bottle from Utobeer, London (£3.00):
Bright amber with a 1.5cm creamy head that holds well & leaves some nice lacing.

Herbal with berries (namely juniper), citrus and some caramel malts. There is a sweetness and lots of floral notes with a hint of perfume.

Floral taste and a lot of juniper berries coming through. There is a sweet taste to it with hoppy bitterness and an almost perfume like taste that is slightly reminiscent of gin. Some stronger malts and a little bit of caramel once the beer has had time to warm up a little and some pine and floral hops also become apparent.

Light medium in body with soft carbonation and a pleasant floral mouthfeel. Quite juicy and refreshing on the palate and one that goes down quite nicely.

A strange but enjoyable beer with an unusual balance between the berries and the sweet malts that seems to follow it in both the taste and smell. A nice one but perhaps one that could have been a little stronger throughout.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber into a shaker pint glass.

APPEARANCE: pale yellow and cloudy with less than 1 finger head that dissipated quickly into a thin uneven head, there was light lacing on the glass, average carbonation.

SMELL: sweet berry, flowery with hops, reminded me of a pilsener.

TASTE: sweet and mildly hoppy, the Juniper berry is not overpowering and in balance with malt and hops, there is a slight metallic aftertaste that I did not care for.

PALATE: crisp with light body and medium carbonation

OVERALL: I have had better beers from Rogue, it was okay but I will not buy this one again.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Got this from a current trip to Iowa at Benz Beverage Depot in Cedar Rapids; a beer from Rogue that I've never had before. Also my first beer brewed with juniper berries. Expectations are in the average range.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours a very light pale yellow-lemon-orange colored body with about two fingers of fluffy doughy white foam for a head. Some very fine yeast particles floating in the glass and some bubbles slowly streaming topside. Some thin scattered lacing.

S - Nose is fairly underwhelming. A dash of tart berry from the juniper berries, bready, flowery, buttered biscuit malts, corn grains, and some light herbal hoppiness from the amarillo hops. Smell is almost pilsner-esque in some ways.

T - Taste follows the nose: sweet breadiness, biscuit malts, some bitter hoppiness, earth, the traditional Rogue pacman yeast type taste, and perhaps some grape skin like flavor from the juniper berries.

M - Feel is decent. Crisp carbonation with some lingering bready malts and dry bitter hops.

Overall, an average outing from Rogue; it's easy to see why this beer gets overlooked. I've never had a juniper berry, so I don't know what they would taste like, but I'm disappointed there isn't much more of that flavor present here. Rogue brews far better beers than this one, and a lot of people don't give them love anyway. Either way, I'd say it is a beer worth trying at least once. Tickers gonna tick and all.

First time I had seen this by Rogue- at the Swingbridge beer and wine Topsail Island NC.
Purchased 7/11/13.

Never had a Juniper before or heard of this one by Rogue even, though I love a lot of their product.

Reasonable price, bought a 6 pack cold.

First beer took a bit of getting used to- however after the 1st, I was hooked and really savored the remaining 5. Cannot find Juniper in Eastern PA. I feel this was a sessionable and very good Pale Ale and would recommend giving it a try for sure.

Mouthfeel was great- good carbonation but not overly done of course, I felt it was a very well balanced beer as well, Juniper evident but not overwhelming to the hops, finished nicely. Good summer sipping beer and very enjoyable, different from your run of the mill pale ales.

Definitely recommend a try- Rogue always has quality and it comes through here too.
