Rouge 15,000 pours a black color with a nice large lacing tan head. There is a yeasty aroma with nice notes of sweet and roasted malts, and very subtle hints of coffee. The taste is nice, rich and creamy with roasted malt flavors, hints of coffee and subtle yeasty tastes. Very nice full flavors, and creamy, nice carbonation. Overall a very nice and full bodied beer.

"Rogue 15000 Brew Belgian Style Stout" according to the draught list at the bar. Served on-draught into a New Belgium branded stem-goblet. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a half finger khaki colour head of nice cream and thickness, but below average (~1 minute) retention. Solid nontransparent opaque black body colour. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Dark malts, caramel, cream, chocolate malt, milky notes, and light roast - definitely not enough roast. Moderate in strength. Appealing, but a bit simple. No yeast or alcohol is detectable.

T: Cream, caramel, dark malts, chocolate malt, and buried roast. Simple but well balanced, if rather muted. None of the flavours really ring distinct or have much impact; it lacks depth of flavour and amplitude. It's rather timid all around, a strange character for a so-called stout (Belgian style or not). I do like it, though. It's pleasant to drink. No yeast or alcohol comes through.

Mf: Smooth and wet, with some welcome creaminess. Pretty well carbonated, but not ideal. Very poor palate presence, holding back its flavours from their full potential. Too wet. Suits the flavour profile okay, but doesn't feel custom-tailored to it.

Dr: Drinkable but muted - even somewhat bland. I wouldn't get it again. A nice little stout from Rogue, but it fails to impress.

C+

Drinks okay from a goblet. I'd prefer a nonic, snifter, or teku.

Serve slightly chilled.

Poured from tap into snifter at the Ruck in Troy, NY. Pours a deep black with nice off white head. The descripion says its a Belgian Dark, but it smells like a porter/stout...roasted malts and coffee aromas. Same with flavor - no belgian here...roasted malts, coffee...maaaaybe some sweet dried fruity notes, but not enough where I would pick this as a belgian in a bling tasting. Its still an awesome brew though! Worth a try for sure...

Is there a "Belgian Stout" category? If not, there should be. BSDA does not do this beer justice.

Enjoyed this tonight at Bittercreek... Nice size goblet for a pricey $7, but it was pretty good.... Black brew with some ruby highlights near the stem.. short lasting dark brown head... no real lacing.

Nose is roasty with hints of coffee... some pronounced spicy phenols lets you know this has some Belgian roots... a little bit of sweetness in the nose helps tie everything together.

Flavor is the same as the aroma... meshes very well.. pretty damn drinkable...

Body was a shade less than medium.... sorta creamy mouthfeel...

I liked this one... definitely not an everyday drinker, but I would buy this one periodically... Cool to get to try it without ordering a bottle from Rogue.

1.5 finger tan head on a jet black body. Very nice lacing and excellent retention. Aroma stays hidden under the thick head with mostly hints of coffee and citrus with herbal notes. Flavor is a nice mix of roasted bitterness and both tart and sweet citrus. Earthy hops with a nice yeast presene. Full bodied and moderate carbonation. Nicely balanced and fairly complex. More drinkable than I was expecting as well.

On tap at Trappeze in Athens. Poured into a Unibroue tulip. Frothy dark beige head with good retention. Very opaque body. Aroma is complex, malt sweetness, some coffe notes, some roasted malt, slight cocoa, maybe a touch of vanilla. Taste pretty much follows the aromas. I really want to love this beer but I can only say that I like it. Mouthfeel seems to be a little thin.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass jet black with a nice creamy deep beige head atop.alot of roast and earth in the nose,I did pick up some of the fruity esters from the Belgian yeast lingerring as well.A nice smooth feel with some chocolate and roast on the palate,it's pretty dry and woody in the finish.The Belgian yeast is pretty subdued it's much more an American stout in the flavor profile in my opinion.

(Appearance) jet black, brown crusty foam head. Above average retention. Nice appearance. 4

(Smell) Sweet stout-like aroma, cocoa, lactose. Nice and enjoyable. 4

(Taste) Sweet black malt, dark roasted caramel, slight lactose, cocoa nibs. Sticky dry, finish. Very sweet. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Creamy texture, smooth carbonation. Medium/heavy body. 3.5

(Overall) A pretty tasty beer, finishes with a dry lasting finish but there's a lot to enjoy in this brew. 3.5

From a bottle: cool looking bottle I'll say.

A: tan head pretty dark pour

S: smokey roasty and nice

T: roasty and a bit of chocolate/ coffee. Get the smokey taste throughout the end

M: light, very light. Usually like it a bit more solid. But it worked well

O: thought it was good. More of an easy porter that you can have a few pints of. Would think a limited releae would be bigger and creamier. But it's. A nice brew. Wouldn't hunt it down though.

Bottle 416 of 1,515. Bottled Aug 8th, 2012. Opened Aug 26th 2012.

A - Black cola brown with low level highlights. Creamy cap of khaki head. Stellar retention and lace.

S - Soft, smokey roast malt. Char highlights. Edge of mint.

T - Surprisingly thin. Dusty chocolate, dark roast grain, light caramel malt, toffee, and macadamia nut. Spruce wood bitters make a cameo just after the center. Dry charcoal and burnt toffee finish.

M - Super silky, medium frame. Low carbonation.

O - Light and somewhat disappointing. The complexity when you really dig for it, but even then what's there isn't terribly extraordinary.
