Rogue Ales has again collided with Voodoo Doughnut to create Chocolate, Banana & Peanut Butter Ale! This unique artisan creation contains a baker's dozen ingredients including chocolate, banana and peanut butter to match Voodoo’s "Memphis Mafia" doughnut- a nod to Elvis' entourage

Poured from a bright pink, 22 ounce bomber
For what it's worth, the appearance doesn't suck. It's dark black, almost pitch, with only some dark brown showing when held to a light. The head is not impressive and leaves only a slight film up top when it dissipates. Spotty lacing.
Most of the flavors don't come through in the nose. I get a chalky, milk chocolate smell, and that's about it. The peanut butter is nowhere to be found and I pick up something that resembles banana, but only barely. A quick peek at the bottle tells the story...chocolate, peanut butter and banana EXTRACT. Enough said.
The taste is pretty bad. There's a fake chocolate taste, no peanut butter or banana, and a plastic, carbonated taste of something that simply ruins anything else that might have been pleasant.
It feels awful in the mouth. Very chalky, fake feel. There's a bite from something that I've never experienced in a beer and whatever it is, it coats the tongue and taste buds. Very carbonated feel. It's just not good.
Complete waste of money. With real ingredients, it's a possibility. With extracts, it's a waste of water. It's hard to drink, it tastes like crap, and the ABV is so low you feel everything. Sadly, I've got a whole bomber to finish.

This relic of Rogue's salad days has been sitting in the back of my beer fridge now for 10 years. I didn't intentially 'cellar' it, I was just so excited by the pink bottle and the jaded by the subsequent review that I put off popping the top.
At the risk of being anti-climatic...yeah, it's bad. Not as bad as the reviews here convey, but it's just, boring. Kinda reminds me of a beer that's popular here in San Diego...Belching Beaver's Peanut Butter Stout - there's nothing stout about it, and there sure as hell isn't any peanut butter in it. But if you like grape candy more than grapes, it might hit the spot. Otherwise, it's forgettable. Just added some room in my beer fridge that I didn't know existed. Next.

So, so bad and ill-conceived. WHY?!

Not bad. Chocolate is prevalent, but not bitter like a choc stout. Banana is masked, but there. I don’t get the peanut butter. This is better than the maple bacon offering. Interesting.

Passed on this many times, but when I saw it in a store recently, I realized this was probably my last chance to try it. I've been to Portland, and I've been to Voodoo Doughnut, so I think I get the point of this series, and I respect Rogue for it, even if they don't always work.
Anyway, the beer. If you took away the banana, this would be a pretty good brown ale with chocolate. At this point, the peanut butter has faded to a hint, but perhaps it contributes to the mouthfeel. It's hard to say. But there's plenty of banana, and not in the way people often describe wheat beers or some Belgians. This is banana popsicle banana. It's partially balanced by the chocolate, but I'm not sure I like it.
I'm not sure I hate it, either. It's an oddball. I'm probably going easy on the rating, since a) I recognize that this beer is a couple of years old, and b) I appreciate what Rogue is shooting for. I'm trying to rate to a style when there is no appropriate style.
Regardless, this is wholly drinkable. Hate the bottle, though.
