I think my wife wanted to throw up when I had her read the label on the back about the origin of this beer. Yes, inspired by head brewer's beard and the "who-knows-what" that is found within. I feel like this isn't a serious attempt of making anything great that will be around season after season. Plus what would they do once the guy with the beard moves on or passes on?

Beer poured a medium, golden with little to no head. Aroma was musty, earthy with a bit of funk. Original sips were prickly on the lips due to medium+ carbonation. Taste reflected the aroma, on the funky side. It has a low IBU and wasn't bitter at all. Viscosity was average. As I let the beer warm, it left more of a fruity aftertaste. Been there, tried that. Won't be drinking this one again unless it was the only option.

This review is for a shaker pint serving I had at Rogue Hall, Portland in Apr 2013... Visited the spot with two gentleman from a local hostel I stayed at for a portion of the 5 days I spent in town... A nostalgic jaunt into beer adventures of yesteryear, I was looking up Rogue videos on YouTube earlier today, remembering my early forays into craft beer 20+ years ago and the excellent, countless Rogue bottles I snatched up back then and into the first several years of my explorations... I do remember the company at the pub being pleasant but lame, but the beer is why I'm typing here... caramel-amber in color and stripped clear, the swill had a toasty, crusty, musky scent... toasty and dry on the palate, with an earthy, leathery skin to it... I could've had another pint or two, if the company had warranted a relaxed session... I regret not picking up a bomber out east here, the few times I spotted one... any vintage bottles still festering away in their cellars???... ... ... ... gd it BA.. this is an Amber Ale, yo (1725)

The appearance was a decent hazy orange to amber color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that lasts for about a minute before it gently died. There was some light lacing trying to grace the sides of the glass. The smell, actually kinda reminded me of a tripel as there was a decent amount of spicy to sweet Belgian spices to malts. I like it. The taste took those Belgian spices and gently allowed a nice sweet apple-flavoring take over. The aftertaste was slightly spicy and sweet and so was the finish. On the palate, it sat right at a medium on the body and showed a decent sessionability running about it. The carbonation seemed good. Overall, interesting beer. Now what else are brewers going to do in this day and age to create new beers. The "invention wheel" can only be stuffed so much.

American wild ale? Hmmmmm.

Tastes very much like a belgian influenced saison. But that might be from the stuff falling from the dude's beard. On the fruity side, bready, with a bit of light hops on the swallow. A tad funky but not on the harsh side.

Just ho-hum for me.

On-tap served in a pint glass at Dog in Yard, Bangkok.

Slight hazy golden amber color, it tops with very thick fluffy white head that stands with great retention. The head slowly sinks to everlasting foamy crown along with plenty of sticky lacing patch on the glass-side, rather high carbonation with lots of bubbles pushing up fast.

Mild fruity aroma reminds me of pear, apple and kind of berries, all these aromas are nicely mingled with sweet crackery malt and a note of honey. A bit of funk and a bit of cooked veggies too.

The taste is quite similar to the aroma which is quite balance between all of the following flavors; start with mild fruity in kind of pear, apple and berries then some yeasty funk and slight acidic as well as honey and sweet crackery malt. Not much of bitterness to speak with, only just a subtle touch at the finish.

Medium body with moderate carbonation that is good enough to carry its body and generates semi-smooth mouthfeel yet refreshing feel, dry finish.

Some part of this reminds me of Belgian Blond Ale like mild fruity ester and honey notes (must be from that beard yeast!). Interesting and not bad at all.

Aroma is yeasty. Appearance: Cloudy dark yellow color. Belgian wang, but otherwise tasty. Not like eating a man’s beard. Banana like, squash like. Medium carbonation. Shared with Mike D and Russell."

Hazy and yellow with a small white head, fades but never disappeared. Smells like a saison, a wild ale, a brett ale, strange. Tastes slightly sour, a little funky, a bit fruity. Crisp and dry finish. Unique, at the intersection of several styles.
