Things to like about Royal Palms; its location is great (on the corner of Carlsbad Village Rd and Coast Hwy), has a decent amount of parking, is clean inside, has an intimate feel, all the beer is kept refrigerated, and it posts prices on its merchandise. Things not to like about Royal Palms; its prices are a bit high ($5 Stone IPA, no thanks), and the beer selection is slim by BA standards. There's Stone, Young's, also some New Belgium, and a few other brands. Perhaps the trimming down of beer selection has been a response since the opening of the Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Not much to attract here if beer is the priority...

Stopped in here a few days ago to see what all the fuss was about. I ended up being pretty disappointed.

As noted by previous reviewers, Royal Palms is a tiny little place; one of the smallest businesses I've ever been in! Likewise, the craft beer selection is also tiny, and unfortunately not too special. I didn't see any RR or AleSmith while I was there; just sixers and bombers from some of the most popular California microbreweries: Lost Coast, Bear Republic, Sierra Nevada, Stone, Anchor, Ballast Point, etc. I also saw some Karl Strauss - any big Strauss fans out there?

The prices also seemed a bit higher than they should be. I don't think I saw a single six-pack for under $10. With Pizza Port and Texas Liquor just up the street, there's no reason to stop here. On the plus side, it's close to the beach and everything is kept refrigerated.

Pig liquor( nickname given by locals because of pig decorations at the store) is more for the tourist than the locals while this is fine the dont offer beer specials and price tend to be a dollar more than other places in the area. The have a good small selection of beers( about 4 stone types, but not as much as texas liquor or fiesta liquor both in Carlsbad. The staff is very cool though and if you need a good beer it still beats the 7 -11 or circle k in the same area. But the pizza port bottle shop or texas liquor has a better selection and prices.

Right up the street from Pizza Port, and you can even see the ocean from here. I have to say i was shocked when i found out this place was literally a corner. Not very big, but pretty good selection. If they brew it in califrorina it seems that you could find it there. I walked out with a 750ml bottle of Alesmith speedway stout for $8. Cant beat that. Not very exciting. Id only be stopping here if i were going to the beach and wanted some good brew. The counter lady was very sweet and nice though.

I just saw this place was reviewed recently. I was out in Carlsbad on vacation a while back and this place was right across the street from me! It is across the street from Fidels Norte (a KILLER mexican place). It is also within walking distance of the Pizza Port and the Coaster train line. While we were there, they had green flash and stone selections plus some good norcal stuff. THey have a good selection of Bombers too. We'd pick up three or four walking back from the port, grab some glasses and drink killer ales lookin out at the ocean... pretty good selection for a rather small place.

Best spot for beer in coastal Carlsbad(it's on the corner of 101 and Carlsbad Village Drive). Small but quality selection. They have all the basics, like bombers from Alesmith, Stone and Ballast Point, maybe a couple from Bear Republic or Russian River (it rotates) along with 6ers of Stone, and usually a couple from Lost Coast, Victory, and Sierra Nevada.

This store is very clean and John, who is in charge of the beer ordering, knows his beer and is happy to help with suggestions.

For how small this place is, it's really well done, and on top of that the prices are about the same as Beverages and More. Support your local shop!
