A: Pours with a little head that soon subsides. Clear and slightly yellow in colour.

S: Smells pretty good nice Hop aroma, not to heavy but very pleasant.

T: Up front forward hops with very little bitterness in the finish, quite interesting. Not too bitter at 50 IBU and easy going at 5%. Also some malt coming threw.

M: Not at all bad, a little bite from the fine bubbles, neither here nor there really.

O: I like this, maybe my favourite Tamamura Honten so far. Interesting use of the hops, there not being much residual bitterness. I'll definitely come back to it, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Pours a slightly hazy gold, half a finger of white head. The aroma is lovely, bright and tropical, a little herb touch, grassy. Tastes good too, the hops bring a lively taste, grapefruit, pine, orange, some malt showing through. The feel is light and fresh, it goes down smoothly, a dry inviting finish. Well worth it.

According to Tamamura Honten's website, the name of this beer is not meant to reflect the presence of any African ingredients; rather, it's meant to suggest an IPA-like beer that couldn't quite muster the strength to make it to India and pulled into harbor somewhere in Africa instead. It is, they suggest, a kind of "younger brother" to an IPA--brightly hopped at 50 IBU, but lighter in body and ABV at 5%.

Pours a golden yellow with a bright white head, medium-strong carbonation. Nose is very floral (my senses aren't discerning enough, but I'm sure a more experienced taster could pick out certain flowers here) with hints of grapefruit in the background.

The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and light, and the beer offers a nice hoppy bite with the grapefruit coming through again in the aftertaste. I can sense the pale malt in the background, but it is generally outdone by the fruity and floral hop flavors. Crisp, clean, hoppy, and very smooth-drinking.

I chose to classify this as an American Pale Ale primarily because it reminded me so much of Daisy Cutter, which should do much to recommend it to any beer drinker familiar with that brew. An excellent beer that can satisfy a hop craving without being too heavy or strong for regularly hot and humid summer days in Japan.
