NB: Whilst this is technically a Happoshu, due to the use of Buckwheat, it is not a lager (for some reason beeradvocate has Happoshu's down as lager's), it is brewed in the same manner as other Ale's from Tamamura Honten.
Soba = Japanese Buckwheat.
A: No head or lacing, under-carbonated in my opinion.
S: A little smell there, but nothing much, I don't get the Soba, though it doesn't smell at all unpleasant, just not that fragrant.
T: This beer doesn't have a great deal of taste and is quite lite. What is there though is very pleasant to drink. Well rounded but only very, very slight bitterness and ever so slightly sweet. The buckwheat is hardly noticeable, but if you've had other Buckwheat beers you might be able to notice it.
M: Relatively smooth, but pretty nondescript, nothing of note, but not offensive.
O: I like this, it's a good easy drinking ale. It contains over 70% barley malt, wheat, and Soba (buckwheat). It's only 4%, so I could happily have it as a session beer. However, it isn't anything to get excited about, and unfortunately the Soba isn't really present, neither is anything else for that matter. As the Barley content is over 70% you don't even get the tax advantage of the Soba. But, I will certainly have this again and would recommend trying it if you have the chance.
