A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2014. Picked up a little while back from a B&M store. A dark bitter brewed in tribute to the horses that went into battle in times gone by. The label also seems to imply a charitable effort, but this isn't stated clearly.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark ruby-brown hue with medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Faint lacing. Aroma of nutty caramel malt with hints of subtle roasted grain, faint brown sugar, fruity ale yeast and stewed hops. Balanced, with an emphasis on the malt.

Tastes of dark caramel malt with a bitter finish. Notes of caramel, mild roasted grain, fruity ale yeast, a hint of brown sugar and stewed hops. Slightly sweet, followed by a lingering, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with decent carbonation and good body. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter stewed leaves, caramel and roasted malt.

A solid strong bitter - not outstanding but nicely crafted. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are dominated by roasty caramel malt and stewed hops. Body is OK. Goes down easily enough; worth trying if you come across it.
