Clear 500ml bottle, best before 7 Nov 09, drank in Feb 09. Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass.

My second beer of the night on a Friday tasting session, this beer came last in the review scores.

Clear and amber in colour (the rear label claims it is Chestnut Red), the vigous pour produced no head what-so-ever, well a slight wisp appeared as I poured, but it had gone before I had put the beer to my lips.

Very little aroma, a very feeble, meagre sweetness could just be found as the beer moved towards room temp.

The beer was almost tasteless, again a bit of sweetness but nothing robust or warming could I find. I tried to detect the 'warm citrus and candied peel flavours' as again stated on the rear label, but failed.

Very disenchanted and dissatisfied with this beer, not at all what I was expecting. A poor Winter Warmer in every aspect, no smell, no flavour and no body.

A deep copper amber with a huge, foamy white head on top that has good retention and doesn't seem to reduce by anything noticeable over the first couple of minutes.

Sweet with some darker malts and an earthy aroma to begin. There is some caramel but not a lot and toffee with a mix of some nondescript darker fruits, none of which was particularly pleasant or well balanced.

A typical bitter flavour to start with some strong earthy malts and a few hops, some light caramel in there and some darker fruits such as figs. It wasn't a great flavour to be honest and was very bitter right at the end.

Light medium in body with about medium carbonation and a slightly watery feel as you swallow it. There is a lot of bitterness toward the end of the beer as well and the balance isn't great and it is also very dry at the end.

A pretty sorry excuse for a Christmas seasonal here, not much thought or effort has went into this one and it comes across as a rather cheap and basic bitter that wouldn't be given a second look the rest of the year and really shouldn't now either. It's not a beer I enjoyed and it was a real struggle to finish.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Oct 2012. Label mentions flavours of citrus and candied peel.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear coppery-amber colour with medium carbonation. Forms a large, creamy off-white head that lasts for a couple of minutes before reducing to a surface layer. Aroma of sweetish caramel malt with hints of toffee and stewed leaves. A noticible whiff of diacetyl lurks in the background. Not particularly enticing.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dominant flavour of bitter stewed leaves. A hint of toffee and fruity yeast. Again, the diacetyl rears it's head. Harsh herbal bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and slick, but rather thin. Prickly carbonation and a considerable astringency that dries the palate. Aftertaste of harsh stewed leaf bitterness with undertones of malt.

Not very good at all; not much of a Christmas treat. The aroma and flavour are both flawed and unpleasant - affected by diacetyl and a harsh bitterness. Lacking in fruitiness, spice and body - the qualities that would make a great winter warmer. This ale is wanting - avoid.
