12 oz. can poured into a stout glass.

Appearance: Pours a solid black with a big two-finger tan head. Spotty lacing on the way down. Looks like a sturdy stout.

Aroma: Lots of nice smells here - milk chocolate, dark coffee with a little bit of sugar, dark malts, and some caramel.

Taste: Those milk chocolate, caramel and coffee notes are there, and there's also some licorice. The creamy, milky sweetness I expected is there, but it's not overpowering. Not just a dessert beer; could pair with chili or stew.

Mouthfeel: Kind of surprised by its lack of body. Lighter than your average stout. Not a flaw so much as a surprising trait. Approachable.

Overall: Very nice not-so-sweet sweet stout. Better than their popular pale ale.

I was expecting a tolerable cheap beer. What I got was a surprisingly pleasant cheap beer. A little sweet, a little roasty, no hops to speak of. This one's pretty simple and goes down easy, and ain't nothing wrong with that.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a black/deep brown color with a one finger off-white head of foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a sweeter caramel and milk chocolate smell with nice notes of crème. Along with these smells comes a lighter coffee aromas and a decent showing of a roasted smell.

Taste – The taste starts out drier then would have been anticipated for a milk stout but not too dry. It starts with a rather strong roasted malt flavor with a moderate showing of caramel and sweeter milk chocolate flavors. These sweeter flavors lose a bit of ground more toward the end but are replaced by a bit more roastedness and a little more dark chocolate and coffee. With all the transitions and tastes that occur, leaving a rather rich (for a stout of only 4.9 % abv) roasted and moderately sweetened dark flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter to average side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. Both are rather nice for the mix of roasted and sweeter flavors of the brew and create a nice base for the flavors to be well sensed, all while still maintaining the easy drinking feel.

Overall- A rather tasty, somewhat, but not overly, drier-milk stout, which packs a whole lot of flavor into a little bit of abv. This is a rather nice more winter style, sessionable brew.

Just a really good straightforward sweet stout, but not too sweet.
Easy drinking with hints of coffee, milk and dark chocolate at the end. The flavor dissipates quickly with a fairly dry finish.
Just plain good. Also, love the cans.
