I was expecting a tolerable cheap beer. What I got was a surprisingly pleasant cheap beer. A little sweet, a little roasty, no hops to speak of. This one's pretty simple and goes down easy, and ain't nothing wrong with that.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a black/deep brown color with a one finger off-white head of foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a sweeter caramel and milk chocolate smell with nice notes of crème. Along with these smells comes a lighter coffee aromas and a decent showing of a roasted smell.

Taste – The taste starts out drier then would have been anticipated for a milk stout but not too dry. It starts with a rather strong roasted malt flavor with a moderate showing of caramel and sweeter milk chocolate flavors. These sweeter flavors lose a bit of ground more toward the end but are replaced by a bit more roastedness and a little more dark chocolate and coffee. With all the transitions and tastes that occur, leaving a rather rich (for a stout of only 4.9 % abv) roasted and moderately sweetened dark flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter to average side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly higher side. Both are rather nice for the mix of roasted and sweeter flavors of the brew and create a nice base for the flavors to be well sensed, all while still maintaining the easy drinking feel.

Overall- A rather tasty, somewhat, but not overly, drier-milk stout, which packs a whole lot of flavor into a little bit of abv. This is a rather nice more winter style, sessionable brew.

Just a really good straightforward sweet stout, but not too sweet.
Easy drinking with hints of coffee, milk and dark chocolate at the end. The flavor dissipates quickly with a fairly dry finish.
Just plain good. Also, love the cans.

Picking myself up with a stout. Out of a 12 ounce can, on to the beer:

With a tanned inch of head of top, this stout is nearly ink black colored with a vague hue of brown at the bottom of the glass. Solid head retention. The aroma isn't afraid to come out and play, but more important is that it's appealing. Mostly milk sweet with a pleasant roasty backbone and kiss of mocha.

Not only a flavorful stout, but an easy drinking one as well. It's pleasantly sweet with that edge of roasty stout, and even a kiss of orange from who knows where. It's light bodied but tastes much stronger than that.

Impressive milk stout. Moo Thunder will be on the shopping list for future beer runs (as long as I see it in Orange County).

12oz can into snifter

A: Slick frothy black brew, solid and completely opaque. Two finger root beer looking hat with nice staying power and decent collar to boot. Viscosity looks medium to light, pleasing to the eye.

S: Sweet syrupy aroma of caramel, bakers and milk chocolate, slightly roasted malt aromas. Some nutty notes melding with brown sugar, a lot of caramelized burnt sugar. Aroma isn’t too prevalent, somewhat subdued.

T: Forward feel is roasted malt riddled with strong lactose sweetness. Milk chocolate, with just a touch of bitterness added from the edge of the burnt malts. Hard or mineral water has remarkable influence in the flavor, imparting sandy, slightly metallic flavors. Overall, I find it shallow on the palate, almost diluted.

M: Waaay too light, watery almost. Flavors are diluted in the understated mouthfeel. Drinkability is high by virtue of the mouthfeel, can be guzzled.

O: The nose gave it away with its lack of luster. The flavor profiles are pleasing, but far too subtle. The mouthfeel is the final straw. It’s too light, too watery. Honestly one of the first beers I feel I can clearly identify the influence of the water used in the brewing process. Not terrible, just not what I’m looking for in a milk stout.
