Pours a creamy yellow gold color. Not quite opaque but it's very cloudy. A bit lighter in color than the Simcoe version. Medium to large white head, rather rocky. It doesn't last terribly long, but there are some nice clumps of bubbles sticking to the walls of the glass. The aroma is bubblegum, pineapple, peach, strawberry, nectarine and a whole bunch of mango. Really nice expression of Citra. Much more sweet fruit flavors than acidic citrus. Mild, sweet pale malt background with a touch of caramel. The taste is similar. It's moderately bitter with a whole bunch of hop flavor. The hoppiness is a bit harsher; there's some pine resin and grapefruit rind getting into the mix. It's still quite gentle. Could be a little juicier. Mouthfeel is medium full, fairly smooth. Some lingering sweetness. Very nice beer with a whole bunch of tasty Citra flavor.

When fresh, no hop character has the punch of Citra- bursting with the tangy and juicy goodness of tangerine that's laced with tropical fruit medley and a hint of fragrant and exotic grasses. And all that irresistible hop flavor manifests in Mikkeller's Citra Imperial India Pale Ale.

Golden-orange in color, the ale pours with a slight weight that causes the carbonation to separate from its body in what seems like slow-motion. As its bright color carries a modestly unfiltered head, a voluminous ivory-white head patiently builds on top. Its utmost retention and intricate lacing tells a charming beer story.

Its aromas bust with citrus hop character- tangerine and mandarin oranges leading the way with a pineapple-mango-apricot roundness that teases the olfactories with notions of Hawaiian punch. A malty backbone of caramel and biscuit is starchy enough to support the hops with a shortbread type of savoriness. As the first sip draws near, a whiff of chive and fresh-cut grass garners surprise.

As its caramel, biscuit and honied sweetness layers onto the palate, its bready sweetness invites a middle palate of high citrus and to a lesser extent, tropical fruit flavor. Vibrant red grapefruit, ripe tangerine, pineapple, apricot and mango are all represented in an array of fructose flavors that emerge with each sip. Finishing smoothly bitter with citrus peels and herbal chive and grass, a moderately spicy alcohol exacerbates the beer's hop bitterness and malty-dry taste.

Medium bodied, the imperial ale drinks much lighter as the sweetness turns to dryness quickly, leaving the resinous hop dryness and alcohol spice to tackle the finish with ease. Its ample carbonation provides a creamy and bready texture early but an arid weightlessness as the taste concludes.

Where no real surprises were had in the taste of Mikkeller's single-hopped Citra Imperial India Pale Ale, anyone who's familiar with the hop variety will find comfort in the taste here as the beer is well formulated, quality brewed and palate tested.

Bottle purchased at AJ's in Henrietta, NY.

Pours a thick looking and turgid orange, with a half inch head, and a good amount of sticky lacing.

Smells like a classic Citra-hopped IPA- really fruity and tropical, an unbelievably citrus forward, with no malt aspect at all.

This basically tastes like hop-enchanced, alcoholic orange juice. It's unbelievably fruity, and "thick" tasting. Orange, apricot and pineapple galore, with some stone fruit, and a little bit of pine. I'm not really getting a lot of malt character.

This is pretty thick and pulpy in feel, with a lower level of carbonation.

This is excellent, much better than I expected.

Thanks to Senor Pacheco for hooking me up with a bottle of this. Sampled with him previously and now reviewing my bottle.

A- Pours from the tall 12oz bottle into a tulip with a strangely hazy almost murky-pulpy body. A massive thick creamy white head peaks at over two fingers. Great head retention as a thick pillow seems to stay around forever. Huge sheets and webs of lacing everywhere.

S- Juicy and pungent. Pretty much stone fruit juice and citrus meeting together to produce a fruity bouquet of tangerines, oranges, satsuma mandarin, nectarine, melon and mango. Hints of grainy bread and caramel but hops are about ninety percent of it.

T- Stays true to the aroma but the bitterness really works well here. Being a Double IPA I like when brewers can combine a semi-aggressive bitterness with the juicy and citrus hop flavors; that is all here. As above you can pretty much list off citrus and stone fruits and find them in here but for me the big ones are piney mango, cantaloupe/melon, tangerines and oranges. In the taste a ripe dankness comes along with all of this. Base grains are there as a support to the hops with a medium sweetness.

MF- Medium bodied and perhaps on the lighter side of things for the style but it suits the flavors better than a thick body would. High, crisp carbonation sets off a creamy and frothy consistency. Finishes with a moderately high bitterness; a perfect way for it all to end.

Dank, juicy and citrus hops swarm the taste buds with a pungent high strength. One of the best things to me is keeping that edgy citrus rind high bitterness around with them. A lot of brewers just go for juice bombs and smoothness. This combines the smooth fruity hop flavors with a great bitter finish.

Orangey frothy juicy citrus. Like oj as a beer. Great sweetness and finish throughout. Unreal that this was accomplished with in a beer

Nice fresh Mikkeller DIPA. Again with this 'Indian' Pale Ale listing?

A - Pour from a 330ml into a snifter is REALLY hazy light orange. It kinda looks like powdery fruit juice. Nevertheless, a nice a color. A creamy white/yellowish head retains very well as a thin+full cap, bits of lace left throughout.

S - Nice scents of, you guessed it, Citra hops. Decent strength. Lots of leafy and earthy grapefruit, tangerine, tropical fruit, some mint. Some sugary malt backing.

T - Bitterness builds up a little more here with plenty of lemon, orange, tangerine and mango, more intense herbal hop and piny resin coming through. Malt flavors are more distinct here as well with honey and biscuit tones.

M - Creamy and somewhat heavy feeling, medium-high hop bitterness that is nicely cushioned by malts. Carbonation is a bit on the low side, some alcohol there. Definitely has a 'big IPA' feel to it. One bottle of this is plenty for me.

O - Quite good. Compared to the Citra-variety Hill Farmstead IPA/DIPAs, this felt maybe not quite as put together but also a little less restrained, showing off its ABV and bitterness a little more. Good intense flavors and showcases Citra well.

Very unique look to this DIPA. It is very cloudy and completely opaque, looking like a melted creamcicle

Aroma is thoroughly dank and citrusy, and is very pleasant.

The taste also has a complex dank flavor with an upfront sweetness common to DIPA's, and a moderate level of bitterness that is well suited to the beer's overall experience and yields a citrusy rind like flavor.

Good carbonation level and mouthfeel.

Overall, this is a great beer with a solid citrus character, and is the best looking beer I have ever seen. Awesome.

Picked this up today because I love Citra Hops.

A - Appearance is much like other Citra IPA's.. they look so appealing and juicy. This is an orange amber haze with a 3 finger white foam head with solid lacing

S - Smell is orange zest with tropical fruit flavors coming in on the nose. Surprisingly when I opened it, it smelled more piney but the beer was slightly too cold. As it got closer to 45 it really began to take on the citrus and tropical fruit blend of smell with mangos, pineapple and orange.

T - Taste follows the smell closely as it is just a tad too bitter for the smell. You definitely get the Citra hops with the orange dominating with hints of pineapple and mange on the finish. It's not as juicy as I was expecting but definitely a combo of bitter hoppy tastes with a sweet fruity finish

M - Mouthfeel is solid for this style. Medium bodied with a not too dry finish

O - Overall I had no expectations whatsoever when I bought this and threw it in my mixed 6er as it just arrived today. Overall I am pleased with this and can add this to the list of DIPA/IPA/APA citra brews that I love

It's no PsuedoSue or King Sue, but if it's available I will definitely pick this up. It's refreshing and easily drinkable for the 8.9% abv

I also picked this up because I love the citra hops.... pours a hazy yellow and totally makes me think of Squirt. the smell is not quite Squirt, but it has the same kind of fruity, grapefruit, lemon and citrus zest aroma....
taste is carbonated- like SQUIRT ! ! ! ! and tastes a lot like the soft drink... just like the nose, there is grapefruit and lemon and some zest, with a dancing on the tastebuds as if I were drinking a soft drink. very nice. very easy to drink and enjoy. maybe it's the colors on the bottle, maybe it's the look of the liquid, but I've got Squirt on my mind and this is just like it!!

Pours an opaque but radiant yellow-orange with one finger of dense creamy white foam, settles to a thin ring, delicate lace down the glass. Smell: over the top massive citra blast and nothing else... fruit loops, mango orange and pineapple juice blend, whole grapefruit, slightly weedy. Taste: sugared dried mango, tangerine juice, leafy flavors providing some needed bitterness, note of candied lime peel. Malt backing is pretty much non existent except as sugary pale coming off as part of the juicy citrus and tropical fruit. Sugary slightly pulpy orange juice feel. Fantastic!
