Collaboration with 3 Floyds Brewing Company

When the Vikings reached the New World centuries before Columbus, they countered maize. This double IPA by Mikkeller and Three Floyds recreates these voyages in liquid form, bold and explorative.

Drank on the 31st of August on tap at Mikkeller Madrid. Poured onto a stemless glass.

A: Body is coppery and shows good head.
S: The aroma is highly fresh as the sweetness is huge but the hoppiness is really big, like this may be the freshest barleywine I've had or they're just under-hopped coming from this standard.
T: Simply delicious.
M: Body is high, carbonation is pretty good and both sweetness and bitterness have intertwined to showcase on the best barleywines I've ever had.
O: This is actually my first 3 Floyds beer ever, not counting the ones from Warpigs. For the first one, I'm shocked at how good this is.

On-tap served in a stemmed glass at Mikkeller, Bangkok.

Hazy orange in color, it tops with thick fluffy off-white head that well retains itself with very good retention before slowly collapsing to an eternal foamy crown and leaving plenty of sticky lacing patch and spot here and there.

The aroma is packed up with hop intensity with its rich peppery spice and fruitiness of tropical, orange, and lime as well as pine, resin, grass and floral. Malt is there too with its bold caramel, biscuit, and candy sugar.

Solid and upright hop flavors cover through the taste buds, very spicy, pepper, fruity, tropical, orange, lime, pine, resin, grass, and persistent bitterness that is very sticky with the palate from the beginning until the end and in the aftertaste. Malt is in the middle with its significant caramel, sweet candy sugar, and biscuit while the warming alcohol silently unfolds providing its sharp sweet and spice.

Full body with some sticky touch and smooth mouthfeel from its crisp and moderate carbonation, the feeling is just right being not too hefty or flat. Finish is very dry.

Strong, intense, and superb with loads of hop and malt as well as fruitiness and spice in forming up a refined instrumental, it is quite like the amped-up version of DIPA. It is not that complex but bold and to your face.

Murky orange, some slghtly offwhite foam
Not fresh and therefore aroma is faded to some residous of fruity and piney hops and some biscuit malt sweetness
Sweet, strong abrassive piney hop bitterness
Light body for the alcohol, bitterness feel raspy as I like in a double ipa
Splendid dipa that I would have liked to enjoy younger but nevertheless enjoyed a lot

Bottle: Poured a hazy light golden color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of intense malt notes with light caramel notes with some corn notes is unique and interesting. Taste is also a mix of intense corn malt notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and light caramel notes. Boyd is full with good carbonation. Interesting experience thought not sure I need to drink this on a regular basis.

22oz bottle poured into a Teku glass; the freshness date is illegible but I imagine this has a bit of age
A: Hazy light brown with a one-finger head
S: Sweet, prunw, molasses, malt, candied cherry
T: Matches the nose and while I know these can age I think this bottle would have been better fresher
M: Full-bodied, a bit sweet and a bit of booze
O: A good example of the barleywine style and while I've had good examples of aged barleywine this one didn't age as well as many
