wow. this series may be my favorite in all of beer, and this particular version may be one of the best in the series. man is it good. skin of red grape in color, right on. not much head though. i can swirl the glass and rouse it up, but it doesnt hold for more than a few ticks. some haze, and a sour as heck nose, funky and woody and definitely mikkeller. i love the sourness and the brightness of the fruit, and i think this is as close to the base spontanale as any of them, the beer comes through as much as the fruit. the flavor is amazing too, puckery sour beer, lambic but more funk than most, with the oak being quite heavy and then the fruit coming in. its literally like biting into a cold, almost frozen purple grape, so sweet and juicy, but only for a second and then the sour comes in. tangy and oaky with a touch of vanilla. dynamic to say the least. the best of fruit and sour together, i mean its so lacto heavy, but real mature. the fruit is summery and real, and the combination is genuine magic. all of these have been great, but this is expert. keep em coming baby!

A 375ml bottle with a best before date of 4th July 2024. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A hazy copper amber colour with a one finger light tanned head that dissipated quickly but left behind some spotty lacing.
Aroma: Funk, tart, vinous, grape, green apple, vinegar and a touch of oak.
Taste: Sour, tart, funk, oak, vinegar and lemon with light apple skin, light grape, and light red sour berries.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: The Spontan base comes through strongly but the fruit element, in this case red grape, was rather muted in comparison.

Im going through this series again and the red grape was one I was looking for for a while. While I don't feel that the grape comes through as much as I'd have hoped this is still up there with my favorites of the series. With the fruit a bit tame, the funk and Brett take the lead. Not as tart as the red currant but nicely balanced and very drinkable.

On draft, pours a very still clear light red copper color with just a thin ring of head. No bubbles and only faint signs of carbonation.
The nose is very acidic, vinegar, grape skins, very tart and funky. A little wood pulp. The flavor is similar to the others in this series. Moderately tart, less than the nose leads you to anticipate, berries, red grape, faint dry oak. The finish is a bit thin and watery, but simple clean and refreshing. I liked it. Not my favorite in the series, but enjoyable.
