A 375ml bottle with a best before date of 4th February 2026. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A murky rusty light orange brown colour with a one and a half finger white head that had decent retention and left only sparse lacing.

Aroma: Funk, farmhouse, pear and lemon.

Taste: Sour, funk, farmhouse, hay, lemon and pear.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Not in my favourites among the Spontan lineup, but still quite nice and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the pear came through.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 2/4/2026. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden yellow/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, plum, apricot, green apple, white wine, melon, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, vanilla, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pears, oak barrels, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, plum, apricot, green apple, white wine, melon, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, vanilla, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, peach, pear, plum, apricot, green apple, white wine, melon, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, cracker, light leathery/musty funk, vanilla, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pears, oak barrels, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tart/spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 7.7%. Overall this is an awesome fruit lambic! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pears, oak barrels, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the modestly lactic/tannic/drying finish. Really well rounded on funky Brett complexity with great oak presence; mellow Lacto and balancing malts with no residual sweetness. Lots of stone fruit notes from the pears. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Bottle: Poured a clear bright blonde color beer with a nice large off-whit foamy head with some retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some oak notes is pleasant. Taste is mostly dominated by tart notes with some very subtle pear notes and light acidity notes are also noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Interesting sour but the actual pear notes are very difficult to notice.

On-tap served in a stemmed glass at Mikkeller Bangkok.

Hazy golden orange color, it tops with a finger of creamy white head with pretty good retention. There are lots of sticky lacing patch and spot here and there.

The aroma and taste is pretty much the same with pear, sour, tart, acidic, lime, plum, funky, grassy, hay, floral, slightly bitter and sweet bready malt.

Medium body with good crisp and lively carbonation, quite smooth mouthfeel with good refreshing feel and dry finish. Pretty good pear Lambic.

Dark orange pour, lots of carb bubbles and a white head. Pears surprisingly come through quite nicely here, particularly in the scent -- moreso than other light-fruit-based Spontans I've tried (green apple, peach, gooseberry). That distinct Spontan base coming through per usual bringing a weird finish of biscuit and sugarmilk. Lighter on the funk+oak in the taste than the scent as well, it's lacking in complexity but the lemon/pear/lactic acid combo suffices fo sho. Nice full well-carbonated feel that delivers a nice sour kick without overpowering, and also per usual for a Spontan, hides its ABV quite well. Better than expected, I thought pear would be lost here. Could go for more complexity but a nice+unique sour.

another winner in the latest batch of spontan beers, one of my favorites beer series of all time. usually pear smells and tastes like perfume in beer, sharp and overly fragrant and floral, dominant and unnatural and distracting. none of that is the case here, its incredibly clean, very true to the fresh fruit, and somehow lighter and brighter than others in the series as well. more of a golden color to this, pale compared to some of the more orange or even rust tinted ones. more clarity too, although there is still a bit of sediment. almost looks like a different base beer all together, although im pretty certain it isnt. nose is tangy ripe pear, funky oaky lambic, and even some hops. i havent had many fresher than this, so maybe the hops are just more obvious because the beer just came out? the pear tastes great, sort of spawns other fruity notes in this, white wine grape, green apple, white peach, very orchard feeling, but there is that distinctive taste of the green bumpy skin from the outside of the pear that really comes to life in the finish of this. fresh but also really excellent with the mature bretty funk in here, downright rustic and wild, dry as a bone, and carbonated expressively. the pear marries into this really well, and is a whole lot nicer than anticipated because there isnt that perfume dominance from it. stellar brew.
