Poured into an Allagash chalice
A - clear reddish orange color, off white head, little ring left over, no lacing
S - light pine, some citrus, floral background
T - caramelly honey like malt followed by a sweet citrus aftertaste, slightly dry
M - light side of medium bodied, under carbonated compared to other beers in style
D - pretty much similar to most American IPAs, distinctive quality is the sweet citrus/honey in the taste, very hard to stop from drinking, preferred the Nelson Sauvin to this one

Poured from the bottle into an English pub glass. A dark honey-red amber hue with large beige bubbles forming the typical Mikkeller shapely and long-lasting head, and an aroma of fruity grape candy, jam, spruce needles, and buttery toffee. Was expecting more citrus. Malt-forward like most of the other Mikkeller single hop IPAs, with some Munich malt adding almost a chocolate character along with the toffee. However, as expected, the generous dose of Simcoe adds a ton of aromatic black and long pepper spice notes that permeate the beer from start to finish, along with some pine cleaner, unripe guava, gooseberry, and pineapple. Simcoe is often accompanied by other hops with more classic citrus character and its interesting to taste a more spicy, green tropical, and berry character on its own, with a pretty aggressive menthol/pine note just barely checked by the sweet malts here. Ah ... There's some grapefruit. Moderately thick body with a decent dose of oily resins, somewhat prickly on the tongue. Finishes nicely bitter with some lingering floral and unripe tropical notes. I continue to enjoy these Mikkeller single hop brews, with this one coming quite close to a good malt-hops balance.
