Very very dark beer with just a tinge of copper on the periphery of the beer. Cola coloured head that melts down fairly quickly but lingers atop the beer for a good bit.

Aromas of roast, bitter black chocolate, and coffee predominate. A little bit of alcohol heat in there as well.

Bakers chocolate, and roasted/burned malt are heavy in the flavor, which lingers for a good bit due to the mouthfeel (on account of the oats).

All together, a decent beer I guess, nothing too spectacular. Wouldn't spend this much on this beer again though.

Oatmeal stout. Oatmeal stout? What I tasted was most definitely a coffee stout.

Appearance - the minimal head was reddish brown - more orange than tan, which was immediately intriguing. Short head, with minimal lacing.

Smell - some bitterness, and some spice - cinnamon and vanilla - and the thick bready sweet smell of cake batter. That was a surprise.

Mouthfeel - medium thick, maybe a little more carb than I was expecting.

Taste - the initial onrush of flavor was quite balanced, sweet and bitter and mild. Not much of an alcohol burn, very drinkable. But the beer was backloaded with a big sip of fresh coffee that really took over my mouth and nose. I love coffee, but I think for my palate, a little more balance with sweetness would have made this go down easier. This only got more pronounced as the beer warmed too. I decided to cut it with some milk chocolate, which made the whole experience very pleasant.

All in all, a very good beer, but given the price point (more than Black Note or KBS at my local shop), it may be a while before I find the occasion to drink one again.

Bottle pour thanks to the guys at the Old Toad during the Ithaca Luminous bottle share.

First beer I've had from Mikkeller, I believe.

Pours a fairly dark black, with a one inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like roasted malt, espresso beans, some nuts, and vanilla.

The taste is pretty similar. The coffee gives the beer a bitter, but nutty flavor, which is nice. Some creamy vanilla flavors as well, as well as chocolate, smoke, and some char.

Medium bodied, slightly thin. Creamy, silky mouthfeel from the oats used.

Finally got to try this one, happy I did.

Filled my 6oz Firestone Walker snifter from an 11.2 oz bottle.

A-Pours a dark milk/dark chocolate, almost leather colored which is semi transparent when tilted and held to the light. About a 3/4 brown sugar mocha head that fell apart fairly quickly. A good looking beer.

S-Holy mother...fudge, espresso, tons of roast. Some hope scents in there as well. As it warmed I got a slight liquorice scent as well. Smelled very strong in the best way possible. Im thinking no way is this an oatmeal stout.

T-So bold and raw. Dark chocolate and espresso, roast for days. Nice hop presence in there as well. Liquorice, some other berry element. Think Chocolate covered espresso.

M-There goes the oatmeal stout. Smooth and creamy, not watery but not thick. Medium feel but goes down like a watered down milkshake. Light carbonation on the finish but you really pay no mind because of the bitterness of the chocolate, hops and espresso that lingers in the end.

O-You know the saying "send my regards to the chef", well send my regards to the brewer because this is a phenomenal piece of craftsmanship. I love to hate it in so many ways. Hate it cause of its price but trust me its worth it. Love it cause its that good. Really.. Im so happy this is readily available by me so ill be buying more.

12oz bottle into Perennial snifter during a wonderful sunset. Allowed to warm to appropriate temperature per style.

Pours pitch black with small brown head. Aromas of rich coffee, grain, chocolate and pine hop characters. Taste is rich chocolate, tons of hops, chocolate and slightly grainy oats. Smooth mouthfeel, rich, creamy, etc. Roast and lingering bitterness. Looking forward to trying this beer again.
