Appearance - This poured in inky, greasy dark brown in color and looked like a thin motor oil. The head was a very deep, dark brown and very stubborn. So cool.
Smell - There's some nice smoke in here but it's not heavy-handed. I'm also getting a raw and pleasant oatmeal aroma. The main gist though is a rich, powerful, fine espresso and coffee bean mix that will take your breath away.
Taste - The balance here is impeccable. The smoke-filled sausage is light and teasing, the oatmeal is present but duly submissive, and the fine espresso and coffee are as loud and strong as possible without being overbearing. The sugars are strictly of the raw cane variety and richly sweet but again not overpowering or otherwise harping for attention in any way. The harmony in these flavors is amazing.
Mouthfeel - This is bigger than medium-bodied and I'd say almost full in the mouth with some slight bittering and almost no carbonation that just adds to the breakfast theme.
Drinkability - The deft touch of the brewer here is what I think is most striking about this beer. It's remarkable how he achieved this balance with such big players. It's more like writing a symphony than brewing a beer, but however he approached it he ended up with an amazing offering in a most unusual interpretation of the style. This is nothing like you've ever had before and most likely will never find again, so don't miss an opportunity to check this out.
