Poured into an Allagash stemmed glass. 7.5% ABV.
A- This beer pours a thick motor oil-black. A standard pour produces a plume of dense, frothy foam that's brown in color. It gradually settles to a thick layer that sits atop the beer for the duration of my review. Minimal lacing is left behind.
S- Notes of coffee and dark bakers chocolate are accented by a surprisingly dominant scent of fermented dark fruits -- mostly figs and dates. The smell has a richness to it backed by a hearty sweetness akin to oatmeal stouts.
T- Deep flavors of roasted coffee, espresso beans, bitter dark chocolate and bit of molasses. Rolled oats probably contribute the balancing sweetness in the taste. The finish is long and leaves lasting flavors of dark roast clinging to the palate.
M- The feel is on the medium side of full-bodied with a creamy, silky-smooth texture. There's a good amount of very active carbonation that borders on being too aggressive.
D- I was able to finish my whole bottle, but I barely made it. It weighs a little heavy on the stomach, but I enjoyed every sip.
