Arrived in a snifter.

3.25 A: Black color. Came with just the slightest medium brown head.

3.75 S: Big coffee - deep roast. Very raw malty, grainy. Resiny with herbal hops.

2.5 T: Overly roasty and charred. Lacking depth. Too dry with too much hop bitterness.

2.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking creaminess.

2.5 D: Overly bitter. No good.

This is good. But, I can't review it independently without comparing it to the other Beer Geek: Brunch Weasel. Brunch Weasel blows this out of the water. BW is twice the price almost per bottle, and it really is worth it.

Breakfast is just OK. Very strong & a bit bitter.
Meh, probably won't seek out again, glad I tried though.

A 330ml bottle with a best before date on the bottle cap of 20th May 2019, and poured into a snifter glass. This one was brewed and bottled by Mikkeller at Lervig Aktiebryggeri.

A: The beer poured pitch black with maybe just under one finger tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving nice stringy lacing.
S: Aromas mainly of coffee and dark chocolate along with some slight cognac alcohol and raisin smells.
T: Espresso coffee dominates throughout along with a bit of dark chocolate leaving a long lingering bitter aftertaste.
M: Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. A creamy beginning but dry finish.
O: I enjoyed this a lot as I regularly drink black coffee and the lingering bitter aftertaste was excellent. I would be very interested to try out all the different barrel aged versions if I ever get my hands on those bottles. However, this is not quite there at Founders Breakfast Stout level which is still my favourite non BA coffee based stout.

Had the BreAKfast version (fermented in oak), didn't like it, was way too bitter. So I was really wanting to try the base version. I do like this one. Nice and thick mouthfeel. Not syrupy. Coffee in your face! Black coffee, that is. Ain't a bad thing. I really like that this stout is different from other good stouts in that this one is not sweet or caramelly, and doesn't apologize for it. Creamy mouthfeel which was nice. Looking forward to finding vanilla shake, and the bourbon version of this one day too :)

Saw everyone going nuts about this beer and came across it during my travels through Germany.
Pours dark black with no light coming through. Small head, lite brown, that disipated quickly.
Great smell, roasted coffe is the dominate armoma with a hint of chocolate.
Taste follows the same key with the roasted coffe being the dominate player. Long lasting coffe after taste as well. You do get an oaty undertone to it as well. Medium feel with some carbonation.
Not a bad beer at all. Very strong coffe roast.

Black with lite brown head that quickly disappeared. Coffee bean roasted malt and chocolate notes. Roasted chocolate malt and espresso flavors. Dusty dry tongue coating, medium lite mouthfeel. Pretty good - I prefer a little more sugar in my "coffee".

Enjoyed in a teku glass. Thanks, Alan.

A: Blackish with a tan one finger head that lingered. Soapy lacing.

S: Coffee grounds, dark chocolate, oatmeal.

T: Coffee takes center stage, followed by a luscious dark chocolate effect with a light hoppy bite on the finish. Let it warm for maximum smoothness.

M: Medium with chewy medium carbonation.

O: Now I see why this one is so sought after. A terrific way to do brunch.

I was so pumped to finally drink this beer and it was a total yeast bomb. Drank the top half, very intense roasted black coffee. Still kinda pissed, zero carbonation. Not sure what it was intended to taste like.

2015 vintage, 330mL bottle with Keith Shore label. Like other Mikkeller beers brewed at Lervig, the label says 'se kapsel' for best before, but nothing showing up on the glass or the cap. Poured into a snifter glass. Served at cellar temperature.

A (4.5) Pours a thick dark brown with one finger tan head. Lovely amount of lacing on the glass.

S (4.5) Wonderful, strong coffee notes. Sweet, chocolatey tones. Some roasted malts, but overall extremely coffee forward.

T (4.25) Coffee dominant from start to finish. An amount of hop bitterness coming through - I can definitely taste the centennial and cascade hops. I'm guessing this is a fairly young bottle. As per other reviews, the aftertaste lingers forever. Each sip feels like an individual 'helping'. Taste is extremely balanced yet complex.

M (4) Lovely and thick as one would expect for an oatmeal stout. A fair degree of carbonation, but doesn't detract the experience.

O (4.5) After sampling some of Mikkeller's more extreme stouts, this humble soldier lives up to the hype. A beer that is demanding of your attention - there is a lot for the drinker to take away. Proves that a stout does not need to be 10%+ ABV and BA to be complex and nuanced. The coffee is the real hero here.

I luckily have a few BA versions to review at a later date (bourbon, tequila, cherry wine). Happy to have tried the base beer fresh - excited to see what the various barrels have done to this terrific brew.

Dark red brown color with 1" of tan head that disappears into thin lacing and smells like COFFEE. Taste like big roasted coffee that finishes with a heavy bitterness, like drinking cold espresso...pretty good stout!

Dark brown and opaque with a half inch of thick dimpled foam that lingers long leaves a thin sheet of lace on the insides of the glass. Aroma of espresso and dark chocolate, notes of raisin.

Flavor has less character than I expected given the average score and popularity of this beer. Notes of espresso and darkly roasted malt, firm bitterness, but that's about all that I get.

Rich and full and creamy mouthfeel.

I really wanted Beer Geek Brunch but had to substitute this instead and I thought it would be pretty good.

A - Beautiful black color. Khaki head with great lacing.

S - Strong roasted smell with complimentary chocolate, coffee, and some caramel and malt mingling afterwards. Mostly the dark roastedness of a stout is predominant.

T - Good flavor dominated by roast, chocolate, coffee, and that distinct oats character that I really enjoy. Solid coffee flavor with some saltiness and a complimenting roasty bitterness to go with the malt sweetness overall. Not as sweet or as chocolaty as some stouts but is mostly balanced.

M - Medium mouth-feel with moderate to low carbonation. Silkier feel and a lightly lingering bitterness that makes this a really good stout. Almost perfect for an oatmeal stout.

Overall, a very good oatmeal stout. It isn't as heavy as some RIS's or as flavorful as some stouts but is a very solid beer. It has everything for the dark beer drinker. I think I like this more than Samuel Smith's Oatmeal stout but I think that Sam's is a better representation of the standard style. And this beer is no Founder's Breakfast Stout but is very delicious even so.

Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast has a thin, cream-colored head, a black appearance, and a few splotchy lacing specks left behind on the glass. The aroma is of dark, slightly turned fruit, spinach, coffee, and dark-roasted barley malt. Taste is of powdery coffee, sweet black bread, char, and mellow bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy and slightly oily. Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast finishes powdery and medium bitter.

Creamy tar black color, with a decent beige-brown head.

Strong aromatic smell of coffee, espresso, a little aggressive but wrapped up well in roasted malt sweetness with hazelnut.

Coffee is defining my first impression of tasting this beer. I find it very interesting, that the coffee flavor is troughout evolving and changing on my palate from the beginning to the end, which gives the beer a decent complexity with a medium-body. Coffee goes very well along with chocolate, perfect mingling together, to one creamy opening, which developes more bitter and malty to the end.

The aftertaste is enormous, lasts for minutes and even longer as the beer warms up. Carbonation is higher than expected, but supports this style of stout easily, not too present a decent freshness. Coffee flavor is really great in this beer, sugar and malts are in perfect balance and support it, without making the beer too sweet or distract from the coffee, the main attraction.

The development through different stages on the palate without loosing focus on the coffee impresses me, and it stays for such long time. Even the late uprising bitterness seems to go well along with a remarcable smoothness, which gives this beer a soft, oily, appreciable mouthfeel. Chocolate becomes very present at the end, and adds a yummy sweet note to the overall bitterness. This beer tastes great!
