Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a Mikkeller tulip.

Cap dated 08/01/11

A: Pours an unfiltered ruby-orange with a towering 4 1/2 finger, light orange head that retains for ages, leaving beautiful looking lace behind.

S: Interesting. Citrus mixed wih toasted malt, fresh cut pine, and a touch of aspirin.

T: Dry, roasty malt blended with spicy grapefruit and lemon-y hops, dried grass clippings, and pine bough. A touch metallic at points.

M: Pretty cool mix of spicy, juicy, sticky, and bone dry. Finish is dry and spicy and left the inside of my mouth tingling.

D: The relatively low abv and bullheaded hoppiness made this rather hard to put down. I'm liking this single hop series!

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass. Thanks to khiasmus for picking this one up for me.

Pours an orange-amber color with three fingers of towering white head. The foam retains well and leaves gobs of sticky lacing on the glass.

Very fragrant American IPA aroma. Tons of citrus...oranges, lemons, pineapple. The lemon zest probably stands out the most. There's also a noticeable faint malt background.

The same components of the nose appear in the taste, but it's not as appealing. Very resinous, lemony flavor. Some sweet malt flavors, as well. Long-lasting bitter finish.

Body is on the lighter side of medium. Smooth drinker. High carbonation, but it's not overdone. Slight astringency in the back of the throat.

Not bad. $6 for an 11.2 oz bottle will keep me from going back, though.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber with a decently-sized taupe head. Grapefruity, citric hops with some resinous character as well. Malt is nearly completely masked. Tastes quite bitter, with a stony/mineral character. Less citric and more piney flavors. Full bodied and well carbonated. Clearly well crafted, but cascade hops are apparently not my thing. Tried to rate it taking that into account.

I'm slowly making my way through Mikkeller's single hopped IPAs. First the Warrior, now the Cascade. Poured into a pint glass

A: This is one of the more interesting pours I've seen for an IPA. It has a large, lasting head with a bit of lacing. The Casacade is slightly opaque and you could visibly see some sediment settling as the head dissipated.

S: The hops hit you quickly and strong. There is also a hint of malt, but you have to look for it.

T: If the beer tasted like it smelled, it'd be great. It's rare for me to say this, but this beer needs something to offset the bitterness. There's an odd lemon taste at the end of each sip that makes the beer seem a bit off.

M: The carbonation stands out as being too high.

D: I enjoyed seeing what the Cascade tastes like alone, but I probably won't be buying this beer again.

I've been looking for these single hop IPA's for a while now. Picked up an 11.2 oz single from Liquormax in Loveland, CO. $6.

A: Deep copper with a tan head, excellent lacing, pretty fair retention. Pretty hazy. Nice looking beer.

S: Caramel malt, green apples, black tea, as far as a focus on hops, its not quite there in the nose. Not really a whole lot going on. Pineapple as well.

T: A lot tastier than I would have picked up from the nose, hops are quite bitter without a whole lot of huge hop flavor, pretty interesting focus on a hop like this. Beer has a strong tea like quality. Very impressive. Has a lot of apple characteristics as well. Caramel malts are there, but this beer has a lot of fruity sweetness with a huge bitterness. Quite complex, a few different yeast esters in here as well.

M: Prickly carbonation, huge lingering bitterness, dry, hits all the notes for an IPA. Slight alcohol heat.

D: Very nice, interesting beer, it doesn't stand out that much, but it does paint an interesting picture of the cascade hop. Nice beer all around. I'm glad I picked up a second bottle.

Like all the others in this series, this is a curious, interesting, useful, and not entirely pleasant beer. It is interesting as a reference beer - understanding what cascades will do as both bittering and aroma hops. But it is not a beer I will come back to as a daily drinker.

Pours a hazy copper with lots of carbonation and a good, white, dense head that comes with nice, sticky lacing. The aroma is slightly sour and industrial, a bit overripe; like an overripe floweror fruit. The flavor is strong and floral, quite overrripe, some pine, some flower, with a weird homebrewish sourness in the back.

This is not a great beer.

Picked up a bottle of this at Green's on Ponce on Saturday and cracked it open after work. Poured a hazy amber color with a very strong head. Smell is hoppy, obviously, and slightly musky. Tastes is incredibly bitter and musky. Very little malt backbone on this one to counter the hops. Did not like this one as much as I thought I would.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an orangey color and a clear consistency. There was a huge, creamy, long-lasting head and some very good lacing.

S: Big, complex aroma of hops, malt, some yeast and a citrus element.

T: Tasted of malt, very bitter hops, and citrus. Nicely done, but the bitterness can be a bit much.

M: Highly carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Light-bodied. As I said before, the hoppy bitterness lingers around a little too long in the aftertaste.

D: Even with some of the drawbacks, this is a drinkable beer. It's complex and holds your attention.

A: Pours a cloudy orange-copper color with a thick three finger head. Nice rich foamy lacing remained on the sides of the glass throughout the tasting.
S: Faint hints of sweet caramel malt and citrus hops with very little else.
T: The first sip yielded notes of caramel malt and lemony citrus bitterness. The citrus hops built and became more dominant throughout the tasting, but there was a noticeable caramel aftertaste.
M: This beer had a medium bodied mouthfeel with light-to-medium carbonation.
D: A fairly decent and drinkable beer, although this was not my favorite Mikkeller Single Hop IPA (Simcoe).

Single bottle from Green's on Buford in Atlanta.

Pours a hazy copper color with a one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of faint citrus hops with a bitter aroma backed by sweet malts.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Sweet malt flavors up front followed by faint citrus hop flavors. The bitterness hits earlier than in most IPA's - about midway through the sip - and carries on until the end.

Mouthfeel is good. Nice thickness and carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I didn't have a problem finishing the bottle and could drink a few of these.

Overall this is a no-frills IPA that's on the lighter side of the flavor profile. Worth a shot.

330mL bottle poured into a tulip.

Pours a slightly hazy orangish amber with a huge three-inch fluffy white head that remains a cap for the duration and sticks to glass on the way down. Tons of bubbles stream up to the top throughout.

The aroma is very fresh with tons of lemons and pineapples. There is a light bready malt presence as well. The aroma is good but very light.

The taste follows the nose and it's interesting to me to see what these single hop beers taste like. This one really isolates the light lemony hop taste of the cascades. There is some malts thrown in as well and the hops leave a bitterness through the finish.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with lots of carbonation and a dry, bitter finish, almost abrasive as the bitterness builds up after each sip.

I really like the concept of these single hops beers as I now get a much cleaner understanding for the tastes imparted by each type. I didn't like this one nearly as much as the Simcoe, likely due to my own taste, but it's still very drinkable.

Thanks to egajdzis & hopdog for this...
Another American IPA from our Danish friends using a hop from the good 'ol USA.
Appears a hazy, cider toned brown with a small off white head.
Smell is of citrusy orange hops, and very American.
Taste is of sweet hop resin and light traces of caramel.
Mouthfeel is ok with the sugary citrus sweetness settling on the front of the tongue.
