The usual... 330ml, served chilled in a Sierra Nevada shaker pint glass

The beer pours with a deep rich brown body, quite dark for a brown ale. Foamy off white head sits a top, good retention. Smell is rich and malty, little touch of freshly ground coffee, a hint of allspice and a touch of fresh American hops.

Taste is suprisingly similar to a beefy English stout mixed with an old ale (think Titanic Stout and Olde Suffolk Strong Ale). Some hop dryness on the palette, slight hint of acetone and a touch of chalky malt on the finish. Light bubbly espresso bitterness, lasting crisp chocolate malt on the finish.

Certainly a good start into the world of this infamous brewery, not a world changer but a solid, robust well built dark ale. I'm considering a bottle of their beastly 'Black' stout. Heady alcohol at 17.5% the general consensus seems to be it requires a fair bit of aging but we shall see....

A: Dark chestnut brown in color. Forms a minimal tan colored head. Little retention and no lacing.

S: Aroma is full of roasted malts and toasted nuttiness. Brown bread, molasses, raisin, and prune.

T: Taste is predominantly roasted malts with notes of nuts and a hint of smoky char. Dark caramel, coffee, and chicory.

M: On the heavier side of medium. Lower carbonation. Lower bitterness. Slight burnt-malt bitterness.

O: Admittedly not my favorite style, but this one is a fine example of the style.

Bottle poured into a pint glass. Very dark brown, with just a little light seeping through the very edges of the glass. Pours a tan head that is almost uncontrollable. Take the last sip from the bottle and get a strong roasted nut/caramel flavor with a balanced hop finish. The head patiently settles down into a nice cap that stays with the beer.

Having been consuming a lot of in your face Mikkeller beers recently, Jackie Brown is a bit more subdued but no less enjoyable. A unique Brown Ale with a hoppy presence I haven't normally tasted in this style beer.

Poured from a bottle, label says 6% ABV

A - Almost opaque dark brown, with a big brownish head. It dissipates kinda quickly but there's always a little bit of a head. Great lacing

S - Hoppier than the average brown ale. You can really appreciate the hops. Also caramel/roasted malts, that become more prominent as the beer warms. Really good balance between sweetness and bitterness

T - Nice malty, caramel-like taste, but really well balanced by the hops. Dry bitter finish where the hops are the predominant note. The aftertaste is also hoppy

M - Medium body and medium-light carbonatation. Smooth in mouth and a real pleasure to drink

O - A nice beer, with a nice hoppy twist that makes it really interesting. Definitely worth drinking again

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a massive three finger light brown head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, piney hops, chocolate and hints of nuts, nice. Flavor is dry biscuit malt with light toastiness, nuts, burnt coffee, transitioning to a lighter dry malt flavor and finishing with charred coffee and pine hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Flavor not quite as interesting as the aroma, but still an enjoyable take on a brown ale. Aggressively hopped for the style, but still well balanced. Nice char elements.
