Thick pour into the glass, with some deep mocha brown colored bubbles of foam clinging around the edge. Doesn't get much blacker in color than this, almost to the point of having a purple tinge to it.

Boozy in the nose right away, smells more like a spirit than a beer. Has elements in the aroma of dark rum, vintage brandy and port wine all wrapped together. Some licorice, with lots of dark fudge and cocoa powder. A very rich Dutch chocolate cake perhaps? As the beer warms I pick up a nice vanilla bean aroma behind all the dark fudge, with toffee and burnt caramel aromas as well. It's also very earthy on the nose too, smells of charred wood and chocolate covered espresso coffee beans.

No carbonation and rather sweet up front on the palate. Thick, wow! This is a sipper for sure. The Abv.-booziness is detectable
just as much in the taste as the nose. Similar taste of dark fudge, rich chocolate cake and cocoa powder, with a slight roasted malt character. Vanilla bean, toffee and burnt caramel come through as well. Almost a faint nuttiness in there, with some dark fruits mixed in. Still has that earthiness, kinda funky. Charred wood and a developing smoke, peated malt taste in the mouth. It's not overly sweet or boozy on the palate, rather smooth really. Not a hugely complex beer but, the flavors it represents are strong and rich. Again thoughts of dark rum, vintage brandy and port wine keep coming up as I sip through this beer. Something that would pair well with a good, spicy maduro cigar.

A - Well, I'd be a fool to call this beer anything except black. It is topped with several inches of mud colored, sticky head.

S - The smell has elements of dark chocolate, anise, alcohol, and floral hops.

T - I taste roasted malt at first. I get kind of a burnt flavor. The alcohol is present and makes itself known. It has a bitter finish that lingers.

M - This beer is a straight 30w. I love thick beers.

O - This beer is exactly how I like my women: dark, thick, and full of alcohol, nom, nom, nom! But really this beer is not that great. It would be great on a cold day to warm you up. The mouthfeel and warming sensation are it's best attributes. I guess I was expecting a sweeter, maltier beer given the abv. The bitterness was not an attribute to my palate.

I was really looking forward to this beer, and was very disappointed. Appearance was fine, aroma was interesting, taste...not good. Molasses and cheap whiskey are the comparisons that spring to mind. Honestly, if I had brewed this beer, I'm not sure if I would consider it drinkable. ..and I've made some very high gravity, very dark imperial stouts.
