A: Pours a cloudy dark orange color; pinky-width head; very slight lacing

S: Sweet fruity hops pervade the nose beautifully; smell is very reminiscent of sticking your nose in a freshly opened bag of gummy-bears. Very enticing.

T: Light and fruity hops dance around the tongue before finishing with a nice earthy bitterness.

M: Light and refreshing, with slight carbonation.

O: This is a great IPA, and one that I would gladly buy over and over again were it not for the exorbitant price of $6.99 for a 12oz bottle. Definitely recommend at least trying one though, it's quite delicious.

This beer poured out as a murky copper color. The head was thin and white, leaves a thin wispy lacing on the glass. The smell isn't overly hoppy, you can tell it's an ipa but it's not excessively floral or citrusy. The taste has the floral citrusy bite to it. Very good flavor profile. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and kind of on the creamy side. Overall it's a solid ipa in my opinion. Glad I got to try it.

I love me some Mikkeller uber hopped IPAstyle beers,I liked this one,but didnt love it.Poured into a standard pint glass a deep burnt orange with a huge billowing white head that left alot of scum behind as it settled ever so slowly into a creamy mass.Massive pine resin and grapefruit rind in the nose,it really jumped out and hit ya,not much malt presence, and just a light alcohol induced sweetness. The feel is just a little thin and it takes away from a great hop profile, the citric and resiny hops hit pretty hard but the watery feel kinda makes the finish fall off kinda flat.Bump up the malt just a little to give this more boday and it would be amazing,as is it pretty damn good.

Appearance - This is a sugary-looking brown in color with lots of sediment in the bottom of my glass. The head is moderate but very light and fluffy.

Smell - This big hop aroma is pleasing but dominated by the Cascades. It seems like the Amarillo and especially the Simcoe were wasted here. I enjoyed the stiff, piney scent well enough just didn't get the mix.

Taste - The piney character of this hop profile took over at the taste as well. What little grain I could pick up though was quite nice.

Mouthfeel - This medium-bodied ale had some light but quality carbonation. Fair warning though, this fella is dry as a bone.

Drinkability - This is a very unique mix. On the one hand it is so incredibly smooth that you just want to session the heck out of it but the ale has other plans as its dryness demands patience.

On tap at When Pigs Fly. In a tulip the beer was a hazy copper color with a small tan head. There was a lot of gauzy lace.

Aroma mostly citrus. Some caramel malt.

Lots of grapefruit, a little bit of pine which I didn't appreciate in the aroma. Sweet biscuity taste.

A big hoppy beer, very enjoyable.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a golden-orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the perfume and bubblegum, with some grapefruit and bready malt mixed in.

The flavor is very heavy on the grapefruit and other tropical fruit. There is a nice bread malt backbone and the bitterness is pretty low.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Appearance: cloudy orange/brown, like a real apple cider, tan head is fine with decent length, like sand

Aroma: excited already - unique spices, cinnamon, clove, five spice - feels like Fall; light caramel malt background, touch of banana

Taste & Mouthfeel: caramel malt and full, creamy body, with spice backing up the whole experience, and requisite hop bitterness (on the spice side naturally) finishing it off; but those five spice/cinnamon/clove flavours are the star of the show, matching the aroma and really linking all aspects of the beer; there's a woodiness too, almost like you'd find in root beer

Overall: a very unique IPA with loads of flavour and a solid malt and hop base, all of it well balanced; super interesting

Super tasty IPA, if a bit pricey. Color is orange/brown. Aroma of pine and citrus. Great smell. Taste is smooth and hoppy, pine and citrus. Almost a tingle on the tongue. Lacing is light and sticks around on the glass. Tasty beer, I'd get it again (hopefully at a slightly lower price :D).

Rich creamy head pours from the bottle. Awesome looking beer. Quite a bit of citrus and hops in the initial smell. Lots of maltiness as well. The taste is not as hoppy as one would think and that's a good think. Good balance with the malts leaving you with a balance in your mouth.

330ml bottle.

This beer pours a hazy, dark golden brown colour, with two fingers of foamy beige head, which leaves some Torrent file block status lace around the glass in its wake. It smells of orchard fruit, some mild meadow flowers, soft yeast, caramel malt, and menthol. The taste is sweet citrus hops, a bit of earthy pine, bready caramel malt, fruity yeast, and a slight booze warming. The carbonation is average, the body medium weight, a bit airy, but generally smooth. It finishes off-dry, the bitter fruity hops and yeast interloper doing a fair job of keeping things in hand.

A fairly respectable shot at the American style from the UN-like Mikkeller operation, but you can take the IPA out of Belgium, but you can't take the Belgium out of the IPA, no matter what you call it. That said, I like this - nice and fruity, with an adequate bitterness.

Tasty first rate IPA. Foaming initial pour, with slight hoppy aroma. Lots of lace at the end of this rapidly drunk well balanced IPA. Average mouthfeel. Citrus, carmel, some grapefruit, tasty till the last drop. Great drinkability, though tingling palate and tongue after it all.

A good cooper colour. Relatively large beige/creamish head.

Plenty of citrus, pine, fruity hop notes. Some caramel malt sweetness is very present too.

Cleansing pine qualities are certainly there, along with the citrus and fruity notes in the nose, though I agree with the previous review that the pine certainly dominates. Some sweet malts are there to back it up. Not a very long finish.

Feels good in the mouth. Moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel.

Not sure why, but I find this really drinkable. Keep wanting another sip.

Like the other Mikkeller IPA I had last night, its almost dipaish in its mouthfeel/malt presence.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Amber red-brown with a nice 3/4" head.

Aroma: Call me crazy but it reminds me of old school juicy fruit gum (which we all know tasted great for 60 seconds and then faded).

Taste: Starts off with some soft bread maltiness, then quickly morphs to a hoppy grass-like flavor and finishes smooth with grapefruit and other citrus fruit flavors and a dryness. It did get warmer and smoother the most I sipped this one.

Overall: I heard about this nomadic brewer Mikkeller and the magic he was creating while brewing all over Europe. This American-style IPA is very drinkable and hop-heavy. If that is your thing, grab one of these. Me, I am more into malts then hops so while I enjoyed this, I would not be able to have 1-2 at one sitting. Cheers!!

This is a good looking beer. Pours an amber orange color with a very nice off white head and great lacing. A little murky looking.

Aroma is not very hoppy. Mostly caramely malty. Little bit of hops.

Taste is pretty good. Not as hoppy as expected. Mostly malty. A little hop kick. It's ok.

Mouthfeel is a little heavy. I like my hoppy beers lighter in the mouth.

Overall it's a decent beer but when I live in a place where I can get Pliny I will do that instead.

A - fully hazy swamp brown... not really what you expect to see in an APA, very tall tan head retained endlessly
S - a mix of yeasty fruitiness and citrus hop aroma, mild pine and earthiness with some caramel notes
T - an interesting mix of resiny hops, fruity belgian like aromas, mild grapefruit rind, and some syrupy sweetness
M - starts creamy with surprisingly low carbonation, definite hop bitterness with a fairly full finish
O - this one is tough to review in that I like many things about it, but it is clearly advertised as an American IPA but it definitely misses that mark, more of a Belgian IPA or something like it ... that said I do like it so I'm stuck on 3.5 all around

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Meantime goblet to a murky caramel/orange colour with a small white head which soon recedes to a small pool in the centre.

Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, grassy slightly sour - not a sweet smelling beer!

On the palate - big grapefruit hit, sweet piny taste, ripe tropical fruits with a sweetish aftertaste of my old friend grapefruit!

Mouthfeel is medium bodied a little carbonation but just right, all round well balanced.

Not a world beater from Mikkeller but a very decent IPA and would have this again.

A - Ruby hue with a nice fluffy off-white head. Good retention and lacing.

S - Citrus, hops and a bit of alcohol. Nothing amazing here.

T - Hop bitterness engulfed in a semi-syrupy composition. Likely coming from the caramel malts. Nothing crazy going on, just some acute simplicity.

M - Medium body with fair carbonation.

O - Kind of a plain IPA, expected more from Mikkeller. I can say the BrewDog beers were just plain better than all in this series I have had. I do not think I will ever purchase another beer under this name. There are just too many great beers that I would be giving the middle finger for another taste something that is, frankly, mediocre.

Purchased at the LCBO for a steep $4.60 for a 330ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a draught glass.

A- 4.25- Opens well and pours a nice head that stays for a minute or two. Unfiltered and almost brown

S- 4.25- Heavy malt, hops and caramel

T- 4.0- Pretty good. Rather heavy and malty good.

M- 3.75- Bit of a harsh bite here. Not an even beer. Very APA

O- 4.20- Pretty good beer but not very good once you factor in the price. Can buy just as good for $2.50/473ml can

Food Pairing

This pretty good APA went well with...... Pork in a mushroom cream sauce.

Enjoy!

Pours dark coppery brown.
Nose shows pine, green apples, grapefruit and pineapple. Also some biscuity and sweet clean malt.
Similarly fruity flavours, also the piney notes. Then that biscuity malt follows before a powerful, sharp bitterness rolls through.
Nice moderately high carbonation.

pours dark amber orange with a big chunky pillowy 2 finger head with great retention and coated the glass with lacing - but for a name of green gold i see no gold

smell - lots of fruit pineapple citrus and apples?

taste - again lots of fruit but the apples are odd for an ipa - apples hit me first then citrus pine hops with the malts caramel backbone

mouthfeel - medium body with decent carb and smooth creamy feel

drinkability - the high price kills repeat buys but i enjoyed every drop

pours a nice dark gold/copper color with a nice head to it.

citrus based nose with some copper tones, caramel, navel oranges, and some sort of oxidative tones

full bodied with a real good feel. Some hoppy tones along with tones of caramel, oranges and copper

this is okay. There is an oxidative flavor that I couldn't really get over. A solid IPA but not much more

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of earthy hops is dominating with some medium notes of dry caramel malt. Taste is dominated by earthy hops notes which are quite pleasant though I prefer more citrus oriented IPA. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Well brewed and packs a good hops punch without being a one-dimensional bitter bomb.

Had from the bottle at Pizza Paradiso, poured into a tumbler.

A one finger off white/brown head that is kind of foamy. Body is cloudy... MURKY... muddy brown and yellow. Super foamy retention on the head with large big lacing. I just particularly do not like this body color.

Bouquet is a predominant obvious fresh grapefruit flesh. But that's about it, not much else, no malt sense of sugars and so forth. It's a good smell I'll give it that.

Taste brings a muted orange and fruit, mild citrus hop bent with a medium body. It's all citrus with a bitter lingering hop finish.

Overall there isn't much to say about this beer though, it's sort of one dimensional. Good but I was hoping for more.

Pours out a really tan to dark amber color with lots of off-white creamy suds.. Some lacing and nice head retention.
Smell is very piney. More pine than citrus. No alcohol detected in the nose.
Taste is grapefruit rind and sugar malts. The sugar comes in heavy then the black bitterness wipes it out quickly.
Mouthfeel is just a tad sticky but the bitterness eventually cleans the palate leaving just a slight alcohol and bitter hop in the back of the throat.
Overall this is a really nice IPA. The only drawback is the price.
