Pours a dark amber with a lingering one inch head.

A whole lot of chunky sediment with this one. Looks well carbonated and it keeps the sediment moving. I've watched it for a minute now. It's like a beer lava lamp.

Moving on. The nose is great. Strong malt and hops aroma. Difficult to identify individual scents but some slight citrus is certainly there.

There's a lot going on with the flavor. It's chewy and tastes like a Dead Guy mixed with the leftovers from dry hopping. Points for a unique flavor but the hops make it far too bitter. It's very heavy handed on the taste buds, harsh at first but the finish is earthy and actually sort of tart - maybe grapefruit?

I can't figure this one out. Don't think I'd buy it again but I certainly would recommend trying it once.

a great great ipa, very signature mikkeller. the pour is a little cloudy with a few fingers of tanish head. the body is like unfiltered apple cider, more red than orange, but kind of dull. the nose is amazing, this beers best feature. there is some belgian yeast and a light fruity character, but this is all about the hops. pine meets grapefruit right in the middle, and much oil and resin is retained in the nose and taste. these are fresh and delicious hops, robust and bitter. long lasting bitter finish. mikkeller always pulls out another level of bitterness beyond so many american brewers. im not sure the secret, but this beer is another lovely illustration that bitter and fresh can indeed go together. a little light on the carbonation, this beer has a very soft feel. i liked it a lot and at 7% abv it felt just right to me. wish it was more affordable and more widely available, i could drink this every day.

edit: I just had this is green easter, not knowing that the two were the same when I bought it. not sure if the easter was fresher or what, but it seemed like an even better version of this. I highly recommend this if you can get it fresh, its really fantastic.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Globe glass.

A. Pours 3 finger head. Great retention. Thick lacing. Color is a very dark orange almost brown.

S. Hoppy aroma. Predominately piney hops. Has a bit of resiny smell to it. Pick up some caramel malt behind all the hops. Good bitterness with just a bit of resiny alcohol heat.

T. Pretty nice hop and malt balance. Drinks easy. Pretty resiny piney hop flavor. Nice bitterness on the back of the tongue.

M. Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Finishes with some bitterness.

O. Good IPA. Nice hoppy piney bitter IPA. Has a bit of resiny hop quality to it. Not the most smooth 7% IPA I have had, but not bad. Overall a pretty solid offering.

Poured from a 333ml bottle into a tulip. Best before date is 12/10/13 (on the cap).

A - pours a brown-orange cloudy color (darker than most IPAs), with an initial two finger head that lingers around for quite a while and never quite goes away (with some head ad the edge and chunks of lacing).

S - A little unusual on the nose as the spicy, resinous hops appear to be fighting it out with some bready and even caramel malt elements (thus the color).

T - this beer is an interesting balance of hops and malt, to the point I was second guess if it's really even an IPA. The hops are certainly there: resinous, grassy and with a background hint of grapefruit, but they're battling with a strong toasty and caramel malt backbone to the point where the finish is sweet and sour. It finishes bitter and earthy.

M - it's a bit heavy on the tongue, from medium/heavy to even heavy, with smooth moderate carbonation. It's not overly rich in its finish, but is pretty juicy and full. No alcohol warming or oiliness.

Overall this is an interesting beer where I would guess that Mikkeller pushed the envelope of the malt profile to counterbalance a fairly traditional hop-bill. It's definitely maltier and richer than your usual IPA, but it's also solidly bitter. Definitely and interesting take on an IPA as in spite of the experiment, it's still fairly balanced. Just don't expect a hop-bomb with this one.
