1 pt .9 fl oz bottle poured into a small snifter at cellar temp.
A: Deep black body with a darkish tan half-finger head that dissipated fairly quickly and left a thin ring around the edge.
S: Licorice (fairly heavy), bitter chocolate, vanilla and graham cracker crust. I strangely associate resinous hops with graham cracker crust so that may be it. Some bright roasted grain and woodiness. A definite alcohol aroma that tickles the nasal passages a bit.
T: Follows the nose closely but the proportions from the aromas are different on the palate. The chocolate, hops and woodiness are more dominant. Interesting that the coffee doesn’t stand out as much in this as other coffee stouts that I’ve had. That may speak to the quality of the bean and/or the balance of the brew.
M: Medium body, medium-low carb. A bit syrupy and the finish is moderately astringent. Drinkability is so-so but that’s not a knock on it...there’s a lot going on and it’s best to slow down and take it all in.
O: This is a different angle on a coffee stout in that more of the bitterness comes from the roasted grain and hops than the coffee. An enjoyable and nicely complex beer.

Very nice beer.
Pours a nice dark beer. A little brown foam forms at the top. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, and that Imperial quality of stouts. Taste is somewhat bitter, coffee, but then it is sweet and absolutely addicting. Very well balanced beer, may get you tipsy. Easy to drink, alcohol is almost not noticeable. Body is syrupy, perfect.
