The saga of me trying to get a Beer Geek Brunch Weasel is..well it isn't really interesting but here goes. Not ever quite a priority, I had been having trouble finding someone to add this to a trade. Finally, theghost3 comes through. Cheers buddy!
Pour is pretty impressive. The only way to a five would be a slightly thicker head, but this is nitpicking at this point. Head is a reasonable one finger of thick, creamy mocha colored foam. Lacing is relatively thick. Liquid is black black with no sign of highlights. Very very nice.
Scent is dominated by fresh coffee, a hint of chocolate and molasses. As simple as it is, this is one of the best smelling beers I have ever had the pleasure to sample. Again, not incredibly complex, but how to do a coffee stout right. Up there with a good bottle of Speedway.
Prior warning: the only way I'd be more pre-disposed to love this beer would be if it spent time in a bourbon barrel. My attempt at a clean slate taste review: Unfortunately not up to snuff with the other characteristics. Coffee is way up front, to the point where it overshadows any other characteristic until the very back end finish of the sip that reveals some slightly bitter chocolate. The coffee taste is good, but just too overpowering.
Mouth is suitably thick but perhaps a little too bubbly for my flat sludge tastes.
Overall this is a good beer, but one that could be great if given a chance to allow the coffee to fade.
