A: Pours pitch black with a dark brown head.

S: Coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and maybe a touch of alcohol in the nose.

T: Coffee bitterness hits you up front, roasted malt, chocolate and licorice follow. It gets creamy as it warms up, and much better. Delicious.

M: Creamy and full bodied.

O: I called Hel & Verdoemenis a paragon of imperial stouts. I'd call this a paragon of imperial coffee stouts. Not quite perfect, but damn close.

Cascades dark reddish brown to create opaque nearly black body overlain by a finger of deep tan head that leaves lace about the glass.

The nose reveals obvious red wine qualities - not surprisingly as the beer has been maturing for three years - and nice interplay of chocolate and strong yet subtle coffee aroma. Molasses-like malt sweetness combines with dark grains and coffee added to lend coffee-with-cream sensation while further sniffing reveals dark fruit esters. Alcohols is noticeable but is aromatic, almost bourbon-like.

Highly viscous oily-smooth body with just about the right amount of fine carbonation allies to the sweetness, roasted grains and coffee to give impression of chocolate mousse, cocoa-butter and whipped cream topped coffee. Alcohol is virtually non-existent apart from mild warming sensation in the aftertaste. Some raw cocoa powder flavor can be picked up. Overall palate and finish remain fairly sweet. Aging hasn't diminished the body nor coffee character to any significant degree.

Overall, a moussy, chocolaty Imperial Stout with coffee goodness coming straight from the gutter. It's hard to believe this liquid shit (literally) is that good (500 ml, Best before 12-01-2012, into tulip).
