I have heard tales of the civet coffee, I looked up pricing and it can go for as high as 100 dollars a cup or 1,000 dollars a pound. God knows what Mikeller spent to produce this beer. Pours a beautiful pitch black color with rising toffee tan head, fine lacing left behind beautiful beer to look and salivate about. Aroma has deep alluring espresso creamed coffee, dark chocolate, and a blast of dark roasted malts. Flavors encompass the palate, it takes off with nearly burnt dark roasted malts, expressive rich coffee, acid from the coffee beans livens up the palate beautifully, most exotic beer I've ever tasted nearly 9 bucks for 11 odd ounces of this stuff definitely worth the price tag. The dark roasted malts and the creamy richness in each sip with a strong dark coffee flavor is marvelous. Mouthfeel is rich inviting, and at times a bit abrasive but all in all the dark chocolate coffee aspects meld into beauty into a full bodied creamy stout that must be experienced no alcohol burn on the palate for me this legendary beer now I know why their beers carry the hype that they have. Overall a hell of an experience when it comes to beer the type of beer that makes you stop and realize everything that you have been passionate about is coming to a pinnacle. Some folks say that beer is beer, how short sighted is that one there are creations like this.

From Platinum - aged one year.

A - black n tan, one finger coarse head, fades to somewhat scummy film. Spotty lace

S - muted, coffee as it warms.

T - blast of coffee, roasts, dry. Hollow mid palate. Some bready doughy notes, unusual for style. Also some stale hop notes.

M - lightly carbed, medium weight, not oily. No real booze.

O - not sure if I should have left this in the cellar or not.... Seems a little dull and dry.... Did I mention dry? Not an enjoyable drink.... Sad to say.
Would like to try one fresh to see if it was more balanced. Given overall profile, and also price point I will likely try.

Fresh bottle with new label design

A- Looks impressive, pitch black with a full, reverse cascading mocha head that stays around for a bit.

S- Amazing depth of coffee on the nose, mocha, slightly nutty earthy, one of the more well rounded noses on a coffee beer,

T- Waves of coffee that fade off into dark chocolate and oat flavors with a finish that initially comes off as accrid and slightly ashy, but then resembles bakers cocoa. Not bad, but I'm not a huge fan of the harsher dark malt notes.

M- full, lush mouthfeel, fantastic really

O- The alcohol isn't noticed at all due to the incredible depths of flavor and other than the harsher roasted malt aspect, this beer is great and worth the $$ IMO

A very interesting beer to try.. the coffee bean and all. Super coffee aroma and taste.. hides the alcohol quite well, very good for almost 11%. The coffee/espresso overpowers most of the taste which I think is its downfall, otherwise could be great. Not the best but not the worst. Good to try for the sake of having... the complex stouts tantalize my palate. This is straightfoward and direct. Don't know if my buds would seek out again, but who knows..
