Black pour with a huge, frothy, tan head. Very rich espresso/cappuccino like aroma. There's also quite a bit of high quality dark chocolate aroma in there, with a hint of dark fruit and cream. The flavor is loaded with delicious dark roasted espresso and milk chocolate. The bitterness of the coffee beans really lingers on the tongue along with some dark chocolate. The body is an oily medium-full feel. It's not nearly as full and as intense as I expected it to be. Just really well balanced and it lets the quality of the coffee beans used shine.

A - pours black as night with a big rocky dark tan head. Head dissipates quickly, leaving lace down the glass.

S - aromas of burnt sugar, molasses, cocoa, and coffee.

T - first taste is a powerful punch of roasted malt, burnt sugar, coffee, and molasses. The molasses lingers a long time, with some strong coffee flavors.

M - mouthfeel is full, but not cloying. Very much like a moderately sweet, deep dark coffee. Heavy roast flavors, similar to middle eastern coffee boiled in a small pot.

D - I'll slowly enjoy this beer. But you wouldn't want another in the same session, or you'll be following behind the little kitties looking for coffee beans.

Comes out of the bottle a deep oily sable with a fine-bubbled tan head - very appealing! Aroma is like fine roast coffee with an overtone of molasses and a hint of unsweet chocolate. Flavor is oily and smoky, mainly of molasses and burnt chocolate with a strong touch of coffee and a whisper of grapefruit. Texture is smooth as glass with just a little tingle, and leaves a nice smoky finish.

N: Deep dark coffee nose.

A- Really thick and viscous on the pour. A dark brown head slowly rises and leaves some lacing as it fades. This is one really dark, thick, heavy looking beer.

S- Kinda boozy and hot smelling. Coffee is obvious, as expected. There are some oats and rasiny dark fruits also. This is one really good smelling beer. Smells like the best of the best among breakfast stouts.

T- Waaayy good! Chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Its like a cup of the best coffee with french vanilla creme. There is a distinct shot of alcohol. This is a pretty warming beer.

M- SOOO creamy! Huge full body, one of the most viscous stouts I've had. Barely any carbonation helps to make this a very smooth beer.

D- Full bodied, heavy and warm. This beer is very delicious.

Thanks to drseamus for sharing quite a while ago now.

A: Nice dark beer. Almost jet black. Coffee colored head. The beer poured like motor oil from the bottle.

S: Out of this world. One of the best smelling stouts ever. MASSIVE coffee nose. Not just coffee but the best smelling coffee ever and I am not even a coffee drinker. Quite a bit of chocolate in there as well. A touch of roast. But this is all about the coffee.

T: Wow. Massive coffee in the flavor as well. More chocolate that in the nose. As balanced as a beer can be with the super intense flavors here.

M: Super smooth. A little bit creamy but not as thick as you would think it would be. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. If anything a little bit more richness in the body would not hurt. That being said it was velvetty in my mouth.

D: Wow. Beer geek breakfast was a great beer and this took it to the next level. The price is high but it is a really nice treat every once in a while.

Brewed with coffee from a weasel monkey's digestive system. Yum! I am a huge fan of the beer geek breakfast so lets see how this one fares. Pours absolutely gorgeous pure deep blackness of a body hosts a three finger peppery carmel colored head that fades to a skim in about four minutes leaving lots of dots of lace. Nose is mouth watering with smooth roasted coffee tones, sweet full chocolate, and a consistent full nuttiness that is very warm and attractive, silky, chocolaty rich and truely mouth coating with just the first sip. Overall the taste is much like drinking very good dark roasted coffee. Big high cacao percentage dark chocolate is very evident on the palate. Maybe some anise towards the finish also. A really well done Imperial. Reminds me of Stone IRS with more dark chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is huge, deep, thick and really appealing. Wonderfully drinkable late night sipper.

Beer Geek Brunch (Weasel) is so named because one of the ingredients is Vietnamese Ca Phen Chon coffee that is made from the droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The animals eat the red coffee cherries, but the coffee bean itself remains undigested. The coffee is prized because a unique combination of stomach enzymes breaks down the proteins that give coffee its bitterness.

Espresso black that crowds the edges of the glass so completely that no highlights are seen. The dark caramel colored head filled the vast majority of the glass on the pour... and is still thicker than the beer several minutes later. Calling the appearance incredible would not be out of line.

Even though I'm not a coffee drinker, coffee-added stouts are some of the best smelling beers that I've experienced (and that includes the hoppy ones). This big brew is bursting with bittersweet chocolate and black coffee in surprisingly equal measure. Expectations are high...

... and expectations have definitely been met, and possibly even exceeded. Beer Geek Brunch (Weasel) is at least as good as Beer Geek Breakfast, and that's saying something. This ale's considerably higher ABV was a stroke of genius because it cranks flavor intensity up to epic proportions.

Again, it's odd that coffee doesn't run roughshod over the other members of the flavor profile. Actually, I prefer it this way since the beer tastes like a coffee-accented Imperial stout rather than a stout-accented glass of cold coffee. Too bad this isn't a bomber.

The second pour gave me no choice but to award the ultimate appearance score. A huge and majestic crown of some of the darkest foam ever seen has just been recreated. Given its incredible persistence, there's no place for lace to stick.

Flavors include dark chocolate, sugar-crusted coffee beans, blackstrap molasses, vanilla bean and an incredible amount of black licorice/anise. Civet shit isn't appreciated. There's even an undercurrent of citrus zesty American hops, which makes sense when Mikkeller is the brewery in question. I'm a huge fan of these guys. Huge!

Body/mouthfeel is the only place where this world-class ale loses a little steam. It's silky smooth, but lacks the required heft and chewiness for the style and the ABV. It isn't a negative per se, more like less of a positive than the other attributes.

Mikkeller Beek Geek Brunch (Weasel) is one of the finest coffee-added big stouts in the world. It took until the bottom third of the bottle, but I've finally come to the realization that this is the best beer of 2010 so far. Bottom line: a stunning achievement from one of the world's best craft breweries.

Poured from bottle to pint glass.

A: Produces a huge light-brown head with a nice brown head. Head has good retention, but not a whole lot of lacing.

S: Smells of strong coffee with a bit of a hop profile. The coffee smell reminds me of Surly's coffee bender.

T: Strong coffee with a nice hop and malt balance. One thing I was worried about was whether or not this beer would be unbalanced, but it's perfectly done in that sense.

M&D: Mouthfeel is well carbonated and lighter in body than I expected. Drinkability is perfect, the alcohol barely comes in and it's easy to drink a bottle.

Wow loved this. Nice hop nose and the flavor was incredible.Nice easy to drink and smooth roasted malts coming together with a really nice balance. Smooth and creamy. This was my favorite of the evening and I had it beside a BA Speedway.I will be picking more of this up for sure. Thanks Marsiblursi...

I was with some friends at a bar and the bartender saw that we were really into the beer. It didn't take too long for him to realize that he should try pushing some expensive bottles on us. After having consumed a couple beers already, we quickly agreed that it was a good idea to spend $24 on this bottle. Ouch. Good timing for my 100th review anyway.

Pours an opaque, oily black with a spotty covering of moka head, which recedes to pretty much nothing. No lacing. 3.5 only for the nice viscous look of the pour.

This stout smells absolutely delicious, wafting itself out of the glass over to your nose. Milk chocolate, minerals, cotton candy, caramel, cheesecake, a latte from the best coffee place in town. It smells like a dessert. Awesome.

The taste is just as good: dark chocolate, bread, high-quality coffee (though whether you can actually taste the quality gained from passing through a cat's ass is questionable), espresso grinds, vanilla ice cream, bourbon. No alcohol presence, which at 10.9% is crazy. This beer has the best aftertaste I've ever experienced; coffee ice cream lingering on forever. Amazing.

Perfect body. Oily, sticky, creamy, thick and full with almost no carbonation.

I could chug this stuff like chocolate milk on a hot day. I'm only taking off 0.5 for the fact that if you did actually chug this stuff, you wouldn't be conscious for very long. So drinkable.

Appearance is dark and near-black, but maintains an obvious brown tinge. Head is brown and an absolute gusher - I poured this extremely gently and still nearly had an overflow. About 3 fingers thick. Retains well with a frothy, bubble head that slowly recedes to a crown, and then disappears entirely a while after that. Lacing is quite good - I had to break this up into two pours...the first had spotty lacing, and the second absolutely plastered my glass. Not sure if that's because the previous pour had 'tainted' the glass some, or if there was sediment lower in the bottle.

The aroma and taste are first and foremost coffee/espresso, with dominant notes of roasted malts. There also were some more subtler hints of dark fruits. Taste is not overly bitter, and doesn't leave too much of an aftertaste. But you definitely walk away with that "coffee breath" feeling. This taste is just strong. Mouthfeel is superb - creamy, thick and chewy. Carbonation is a tad higher than I would have preferred, but still moderate overall. I must say, I found the alcohol to be quite well concealed. I never really picked up any boozy notes.

This is an intense and heavy brew, so drinkability is moderate. Very enjoyable, but I think I have to give the nod to the Breakfast as opposed to the Brunch.

Appearance: Pours a pitch black color with a foamy beige crown (clearly influenced by the oatmeal) ; pretty swaths of lace drip down the sides of the cervoise

Smell: Smells like a roastery, with wafts of coffee goodness and blackstrap molasses

Taste: Black bread and dark fruit, up front; surprisingly, the fruit flavors dominate until mid-palate when the coffee arrives (perhaps that is the civet coffee character); molasses and bitter chocolate linger until the swallow, which dries out the flavor profile into pure coffee

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and creamy, with moderate carbonation and a hint of warmth in the gullet

Drinkability: Believe the hyoe on this one as it is one of the richest, most interesting coffee beer experiences out there

Beer made with coffee that came out of a cat's arse.

Pours pitch black with a large mocha head, and good retention and lace. Huge chocolate covered espresso bean aroma... kinda like a mocha coffee, but with a bit of burned caramel depth and more roast.

Flavour is awesome, and a great marriage of chocolate and coffee. Roasted malt out the wazoo, which compliments the coffee perfectly, and what coffee it is! There's a great deal of caramel, brown sugar and raisin too. The oats don't come through so much in the flavour as they do in the body, which is full, chewy and decadent.

Surprsingly awesome. I've never really understoof the appeal behing scat, but this is my kind of shit.

This beer pours pitch black and forms a large thick dark brown head with great retention and good lacing. It smells very much like a double shot mocha, lots of coffee and chocolate in this one! Some molasses, caramel and hint of charcoal as well. All I can say after my first sip is wow. This is a fantastic beer! Silky smooth mouth feel leaving your mouth slightly oily. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts, Smooth rich coffee, this beer has so much going on in the flavor. Slight bitterness at the end and finishes smooth with some lingering chocolate flavors. Without it being printed on the label I would have never guessed this beer is 10.9 ABV there is not even a hint of alcohol in the nose or flavor.

The secret ingredient is poop. This is a coffee / imperial stout that is made with coffee that has passed through the digestive system of a small mammal (its why its called weasel).

Beer is dark black and forms a thick brown head that falls away quickly and leaves some lacing on the glass. Carbonation is moderate to low. Looks like a stout.

Aroma is slightly boozy, lots of coffee. Some sour notes. Its not that appealing a smell sorry to say. Its really strong, the coffee is most forward so I'll forgive it some of subtle flavors.

High roast, lots of coffee, medium body, lots of backend bitterness from the coffee. This beer is really really strong. Drinkability suffers from strength. Overall a good coffee stout, definitely get the coffee flavors coming through for sure. Wow, second taste is just as strong, bitterness builds. If you love coffee and dark beers, this is for you, otherwise avoid. Nice.

A - Pitch black with an inch of light brown head that hangs around forever. Lots of lacing left down the glass.
S - Roasted chocolate and coffee dominates with with dark fruit touches. Floral hints.
T - Bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee and dark fruit flavours.
M - Medium to full bodied, lowish carbonation, bit of bitterness.
D - A very nice beer indeed. Obviously not a session beer but something I wish I could afford to drink every now and then.

Bottle poured into my Stone RIS glass. Pours black with nice tan head. Nice head retention and moderate lacing for 10% stout.

Aroma is sweet roasty malts with some coffee and chocolate. Taste is roasted malts with coffee and dark chocolate. A nice amount of bitterness as well. The fact that it is 10% is very well hidden and drinks pretty easily.

I enjoyed this beer a lot. Excellent Imperial stout. The addition of the oatmeal and coffee was very good. I would gladly purchase this again.

A- This beer pours a jet black body with a deep dark tan head that boils like molten toffee that soon disappears.
S- This beer has a tart black barley note with a doughy oatmeal hint and a herbal green hop hint that grows a bit as the beer warms.
T- There is a smooth mellow flavor to a dark roasted coffee flavor with a slight honey sweet hint. There are some dark roasted malt flavor with a char hint and an oak hint to follow. The finish is a nice dark roasted coffee bitterness with a soft bitterness that lingers.
M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with no alcohol heat and a smooth.
D- This beer has a dark roasted but smooth and well-blended flavor. The bitterness grows a bit as the beer warms.

Black body, tan head. Big frothy tan head with excellent retention and lacing. Probably the best head I've ever seen on an imperial stout.

Quite a sharp smell. Definite coffee, a hint of dark chocolate, lots of burnt grain. A touch of carob? Theres a hit of alcohol in the smell too but it doesnt dilute the richness of everything else.

A nice burnt malty sweetness hits first. Only slightly sweet though. All kind of burnt bready and cakey textures mingle at the back of the tongue and strong coffee flavours throughout. Definite chocolate tastes make an appearance at the end too. An acerbic bitterness lingers. Burnt grain and espresso coffee. The aftertaste is like one has had a few shots of espresso and a rich dark fruit cake for breakfast. Except not really fruity.

Full bodied, smooth and the alcohol is well hidden. Carbonation is spot on. Just enough to give a silkiness, not enough to tingle.

Very drinkable for the syle. A slow drinking beer of course, but you'll be taking your time just to savour it for longer.

500ml bottle drank from an oversized snifter. excited to try this one.

A- this one pours a black colored body with a small coffee colored head. seems very fitting. the head lasts for a while and leaves behind solid rings of lacing.

S- lots of dark roasted malt and coffee. some dark chocolate in there too.

T- the taste is equally dark as the smell and appearance. very strong roasted malts and coffee. not as sweet as i was expecting which is a plus. nice dry finish.

M- rich and smooth. full bodied and chewy. there are also some gelatinous clumps in here which i can feel on my tongue. not really into that. it kind of grossed me out.

D- i really liked this beer, other than the mouthfeel. different than i was expecting and in a good way. if it wasnt so hard to find and expensive i would try to grab more of this again somewhat soon. definitely worth a shot.

You can smell a bourbon treatment from arms length after removing the cap.
Pours an opaque darkness with a full finger dark brown audibly fizzy head that fades pretty quickly leaving nice stringy sheets of Belgian lacing behind. The nose beneath the vanilla molasses has a rich but mildly roasted coffee bean and chocolate character. The coffee flavor comes through nicely with an excellent spot on roast. The coffee flavor works well with the earthy oatmeal chocolate and vanilla presence. No surprise that while the fizzy sound effects suggest a high degree of carbonation, that the mouth is dominated by the impact of the silky smooth bourbon...the oatmeal lends a premium body and slight graininess to the mouth and compliments the taste by sustaining a wonderful lingering quality. Full flavored, this one has a world class complexity that sends my consideration around and around. Bouncing from coffee to oat to vanilla to bourbon to chocolate and back again. WOW!! REALLY enjoyed this one! "Weasel-like Civet Cat s&*... ROCKS in this...other more decadent form. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Poured this 1 pt. .9 oz. brown bottle into a Sierra Nevada Hops glass. No date. The vigorous pour created a tall dark head that looked like a creamy root-beer float. This faded quickly to a ring and then nothing. The body was very black with brown hints.

Smell was big time coffee and cocoa powder. Lightly metallic.

Taste was creamy bittersweet cocoa. Lactic. Earthy. Complex layers of flavor unfold. Multidimensional. Dark chocolate. Dry. Rich grains. Very well hidden alcohol. Forward roasty bitterness followed by a sweet lip coating finish.

Mouthfeel was hefty, creamy and smooth. A meal in a glass. The only knock against this beer was the coagulated clumps of protein that made me pour out the last inch of beer from my glass. The slimy texture was a mood killer.

A- Inky black with a frothy medium-brown head.

S- Rich burnt coffee beans, light vanilla and chocolate,ash, and a whiff of alcohol and hops.

T- Amazing coffee flavors, smoke, chocolate and cookie, noticable hoppy finish adding depth.

M- Full bodied with soft, creamy carbonation with a slightly astringent feel in the finish.

D- This(with a few others) takes coffee(beer) to new levels. More integrated than geek breakfast.

I was initially hesitant to try MIKELLER's - Beer Geek Brunch Oatmeal Stout based on the claim it is made with civet coffee seeds. For those who may not be familiar, and I'm not kidding about this, some of the most expensive coffees in the world are those made from seeds recovered from the feces, thats right - feces, of certain animals (i.e. the louac and in this case, the civet) which consume only the most ripe coffee cherries and then naturally, excrete the seeds. Supposedly, the coffee beans undergo special refinements while in the animal's digestive tract and, I can only assume, someone then has the undesirable job of following the little critters around until they are finished with them. My wife and I joking call this "monkey s***" coffee and choose not to drink it because it seems to me to be only a trendy / snobby sort of thing.

At any rate, when reviewing something for the benefit of others you must keep an open mind so I tried it; besides, the 10.9 % ABV had to kill anything the civet left behind... right? When I opened the bottle I detected immediate notes of black coffee, hops, and perhaps bitter chocolate. The pour revealed a beautiful black color and a chocolate-brown head with the consistency of whipped cream. Some ran down the side of the glass and when it re-condensed on the counter it actually stuck a little bit when I wiped it up, demonstrating its viscosity. Once the head finally laid down I was able to take my first sip which revealed the same flavors that had been detected in its aroma. As I drank it down it left substantial lace that was more like a set of curtains. Kidding aside, this was a good beer and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the qualities of a good stout.
