glass bottle with expiration date 22/10/12, poured into la fin tulip

A - pale golden straw body with a decent sized 1.5 finger bright white head; retention is decent.

S - a bit like a beaten down tripel. there are some apple like notes and yeast in the front, but the entire background of the nose is the brettanomyces, which give off a very distinctive sour smell, almost a bit like kombucha tea.

T - the taste is interesting, not particularly desireable, but interesting nonetheless. it is a very bubbly malt and sour taste overall. the initial taste is distinctively sour and bitter, the sour is the brettanomyces but the bitterness is more hoppy. the initial is quite a simple taste, but a strong one at that. the finish looses a lot of flavour, leading the malts to make their biggest presence yet, though the sour does persist for the most part. the aftertaste has the sour taste toned down quite a bit; the blend of bitter, malts, and sour comes out a bit more evenly than in the other stages.

MF&D - the feel is quite refreshing: light and bubbly, the beer goes down quite easily. the problem with the drinkability is how the damn thing tastes: if it is supposed to be a belgian pale ale, which I do not think was the intention, then it is a real funky rendition. if it is supposed to be a flemish sour ale or something like that, well, its not the best but it sure as hell makes a lot more sense.

Opened in 2013, pretty sure it's a 2011 bottle.

A - Clear, wheat yellow body with lively carbonation. Mixed bubble head had ok lace and low retention.

S - Lemony funk; bright acid, barnyard, and green apples.

T - Way off. Soapy, foamy flavors dominate the profile. Touch of pear, seltzer, and apple peel, but it's not enough to save the beer.

M - Light, brightly carbonated.

O - Nice ancillary characteristics, but unfortunately the soap flavor is extremely off-putting.

my very first mikkeller!!!
pours a golden hued, semi-topped liquid.
smell is Belgian yeast, typical Belgian ale aroma.
taste is.... Belgian yeast.... candied sugars.... eh, it's alright....
overall.... it's alright.... typical Belgian flavored ale. so, if you click to all the beers mikkeller brews, then sort on the ratings, it's. like, THE LOWEST rated brew from them.... I guess it can only go up from here??
it wasn't bad. my 2 year love affair with Belgians is over. just way too rich. I still respect them all, but the ol' standby germans are particularly appreciated at this point although ive been bumping around with several other different things. still, I get the mikkeller concept. interesting.... cheers!

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Fullers snifter glass. Labelled as "It's Alight!".

Pours a pale golden colour with a white head.

Smells very soft and floral, with a hint of sweetness.

Tastes again, very delicate but in a watery kind of way. Like sparkling water with a hint of sourness, light/sweet fruits - melon etc. Nice level of carbonation.

Overall I'm a bit torn. Decent but not strong flavours.

Poured from an 11.2oz into a Delirium tulip at low altitude in NY.

A: Pours a hazy light amber with a small cream-colored head. Decent retention, but no lacing to speak of.

S: Wheat malt character, slight barnyard funk and light floral notes in the background. Does not smell as "wild" as I would have expected per the description on the bottle.

T: Pilsner-like malt character up front gives way to a brief taste of yeasty funkiness, followed by a lightly bitter floral hop finish. Unexpectedly, the hop notes dominate the overall flavor profile; not particularly well-balanced in my opinion.

M: Light-bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation; watery feel.

O: An average brew overall -- certainly not among Mikkeller's best offerings.
