Tasting side-by-side with the Warrior Single Hop. Date reads "10/03/11". Is that March 10, 2011, March 11, 2010, October 3, 2011, or November 3, 2010? And just as importantly, is that the bottling date or the expiration date? Confusing.

A - Pours a cloudy apricot with excessive, foamy head -- at least as much head as liquid. And very persistent. This head takes several minutes to simmer down, leaving little lacing behind.

S - Smells pretty good, although more like a Belgian-style IPA than an American (the label calls it American). I'm terrible at making up smell names, so I won't try here. No evidence of hops.

T - Tastes very different from its smell. Considerably more bready and mature on the tongue than the nose. Also possesses a lot more bitterness than the smell would suggest. Again, good, but not American, at least not by my definition.

M - After all the foam, this ends up being somewhat flat. Needs a little more pop.

D - With its surprising taste and clean, bitter finish, I could drink a few of these.

Since when is this one no longer brewed? I have one that was bottled on 26/02/2014. Anyway, apart from the aroma, I found this one a bit flat compared to the others in the single hop series. I like NS hops but this one did not shine. Still decent though

Snagged a bottle from a Co-op liquor store in SW Calgary. Poured into an American pub glass, this single-hop IPA is a cloudy reddish-orange amber hue with a massive off-white head. Foamy indeed and the head maintained its shape like a snowball just sitting there on the brew itself. Features a very perfumed tropical fruit smell that includes lychee, mango, muscat grape, honeydew melon, and gooseberry notes. I could not smell much else beyond a vague tangy spice. Palate is also rank tropical fruit, spicy, and a little sour. A caramel candy malt backbone does become more robust and toasty as the palate adjusts to the tropical fruit flavors described earlier. Great flavor hop showcase with just enough sweet malt to prevent things from being cloyingly fruity. This unique hop starts tropical and stays that way but a wine-like green spiciness accumulates and the finish is green leaf, pineapple skin and minerals, pretty bitter. Goes down smooth and comes off as much lighter than the ABV would suggest despite the assertive flavors. I'd have another.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of March 2015. Acquired a little while back from the Brewdog online shop. All I know is that Nelson Sauvin is supposed to have a flavour reminiscent of certain white wines - looking forward to this single hop IPA.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A deep reddish-amber hue with hazy sediment and good carbonation. Produces a massive head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a while before subsiding to a surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of fruity hops with hints of white grape, melon, apples, grass and faint tropical fruit. Underpinned by sweet caramel malt and earthy yeast. Possesses a green, 'leafy' character.

Tastes of fruity aromatic hops with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Notes of white grape, melon, apples, gooseberries, guava, grass/hay, faint tropical fruit, caramel malt, earthy yeast and stewed hops. A delicate acidity lurks in the background; reminiscent of unripe fruit. Leafy and slightly sweet, followed by a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly; hop oils stimulate the palate. Good body but unexciting carbonation. Mildly astringent, with an aftertaste of white grape, fruity hops, leaves and earthy yeast.

Pretty good, though surprisingly light for an IPA of this strength - perhaps due to the lack of perceived bitterness. It looks great in the glass, while the aroma and flavour are intensely fruity. The 'white wine' character certainly expresses itself. Decent body. A singular hop variety that sets itself apart from most others - intriguing, though not all of its flavour components are desirable. A decent brew from Mikkeller and a worthy showcase for Nelson Sauvin. Give it a whirl if you come across it.

Coming in a slim, long-neck 330ml brown bottle, bottle-conditioned; BB 20/03/2015, served mildly chilled in a short-stemmed wine goblet.

A: pours an elegant bright amber colour with a creamy beige frothy head and constant flows of mild carbonation.
S: a really nice mixture of NS’ sweet grapey and guava-ish high-pitched fruitiness and caramel&pale malts’ biscuity sweetness comes to the fore, underlined by an unusual alc. feel and also some unnatural metallic/rusty notes, hiding behind which is a flow of sharp passion fruit syrup. The metallic touches are a bit more than necessary, hence bringing down the performance somewhat. A good swirl would bring up the overripe fruit esters, but only just.
T: soft and effervescent, the NS’ crushed-seeds-like tannic bitterness and ripe guava-ish exotic fruitiness together presents a rather pronounced and rough hoppy palate, preceding a flow of mildly sweet caramel maltiness and overripe fruit esters, followed soon by an intensifying wave of warming alc. alongside a really deep and profound bitterness as well as guava’s aromatic touch, spicy and herbal hints, and truly chewy and tannic bitterness at the tail of each sip.
M&O: refreshing on the palate, the fizz remains very fine as well as being lively, medium-bodied, the alc. doesn’t hide terribly well; all in all, this is a delicious IPA showcasing NS with skills, although IMO complexity is not a main selling point here.
