11.2oz bottle poured into snifter.
A: Deep-space opaque black that literally devours all traces of light. Even with holding my iPhone flashlight directly up to it, no traces of light shine through. This beer is absolutely ominous. A two finger dark khaki head starts out wonderful and creamy, but eventually fades down to a little cap that retains nicely. Respectable tribal patterns of lacing left down the glass.
S: Smell is dominated by roasted malts and dark roast coffee. Lots of pure cocoa and dark chocolate meshes nicely with the roasted character. I'm not detecting much of the hops... or any at all, really... That's quite okay by me, though.
T: Lots of pure, unsweetened cocoa upfront that melds perfectly with a gourmet dark roast coffee profile. These flavors remain consistent throughout, until the finish when some piney hops peak their head through ever so delicately until they're squelched by the black coffee flavors in the aftertaste.
M: Medium body with a subdued carbonation and wonderfully creamy texture. I was hoping for a bit more of a full-bodied brew, but there's nothing to complain about here. The ABV is completely masked and this is a wonderfully drinkable stout.
O: I've been losing interest in stouts, admitted, so I decided to pick this one up on a whim to give it a whirl. This brew has successfully reminded me of why I loved stouts in the first place. Lots of roasted coffee flavors that are perfectly balanced with some dark chocolate notes and a delicate hint of hops. This brew definitely satisfied and makes for a perfect treat in the early afternoon or late at night.
