375 mL bottle poured into an Allagash chalice.

Appearance - Murky amber body with a huge off-white head. Impressive retention and beautiful lacing.

Smell - Pine bomb of a hop profile. Slightly dank with some sugary caramel malt backup.

Taste - Almost immediately bitter, but it doesn't culminate until the very end. Lots of pine and resin. A fair bit of sweetness. The bitterness builds up at the end pretty quickly. In the middle, it's pretty balanced, but very bitter in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Thick, sweet, extremely bitter. Medium carbonation.

Overall - So many things wrong with this, but still it seems to come together. Decent hop profile, but extremely intense in the back end. No surprise at 1000 IBUs, if that's really accurate.

One badass beer.

Appearance: Nice, a bit hazy amber in colour with a yellowish, thick head that lasted very long.

Aroma: Most double IPA's I've tasted had a very sweet or alcohol aroma, but not this one. Amazing hoppy, citrusy aroma from the bottle and even better from the glass. Very intense.

Taste: Extreme hoppy bitterness, little bit of caramel, resin and earthy flavours. Tons of citrus. No alcohol aftertaste, just how I like it.

Mouthfeel: soft carbonation, medium to high bodied.

Overall: Never have I tasted an IIPA so amazingly good. Best IIPA I've ever had and probably one of the best beers I've had so far.

Enjoyed from a teku glass.

A: Murky brown with a very light brown head.

S: Nose is a hop bomb with a touch of grass, citrus, and a general citrus/pine hop character.

T: Pineapple, citrus, and malt as well. Sweet malt and citrus are the predominant flavors. It's really not that bitter.

M: Medium bodied, a bit less than average carbonation than your typical IPA.

O: Not what I expected. It's extremely drinkable, not at all the most bitter beer I've ever had.

Not sure how to rate this on a lot of things. Reading some reviews feels like I may have had a different beer (I had this on tap in May 2013) because it was outrageously bitter; dried out my mouth for an hour and took about as long for the flavor to dissipate. That said I enjoyed the taste as I crave this kind of bitterness but I know it’s not enjoyable for most people.
