Brought this out to Canchola's for the first Raider game in Nevada against the Saints in 2020. 2010 bottle, cellar aged.

Pours black, thin head. Flimsy head smattering, I dunno, 1/5" of beige head sounds about right. The aroma didn't reveal much in the way of red wine or dark fruit, this brought the roasted malt and roasted coffee vibe in much greater proportion than the wine barrel.

Taste and mouth feel did reveal the barrel impressions. The wine barrels in the series were the most dry mouth feel of any of the beers. Still a heavy roasted malt, 'lighter' dark fruit notes, diner coffee, dark old world oak. The level of booziness is average for a 13% beer, all these beers were sippers to say the least. Dry cocoa like mouth feel as well. I think the red wine barrel helped the mouth feel perception, this was the least used motor oil mouth feel of the batch. Nothing sweet about the mouth feel, it pushes the bitterness, dark fruit edge.

A 2011 bottle purchased ($22 off the Vintage list) and shared at the bar at The Porter Beer Bar in Atlanta.

I thought that a 4-year old bottle would be smoother, but age has not yet toned down the sovlenty/hot nature this beer had when first bottle. Leave this one in the cellar for at least two more years. 3.75

A - Upon pour still a nice half finger reddish brown head - 4

S - Good vinous qualities. 4

T - Still too boozy but the red wine shines through with some stringent vinous notes - 3.75

MF - Heavy body with a warming finish - 3.75

i found this and the tequila barrel aged edition down at coaltrain in colorado springs. that place has some dusty gems sitting around, these are relics at this point, and although i feared some deterioration, at over 13% abv, it was worth the risk. this one smoked the tequila one i though, the red wine was quite intense, the tannins there really sort of countered the slight oxidation the beer suffered, and while the honey has faded plenty, the other elements were prominent, and the texture was right on, huge and creamy, bitter enough from coffee and roast, and somehow soft in feel, not the least bit harsh, the alcohol has mellowed tremendously. i remember the white wine edition being more subtle on the wine, the fruit here is really pretty bold, cherry being the most obvious, and it goes great with the coffee and the relative dryness of the whole thing. i would have been curious to taste a fresh one side by side with this, but i enjoyed it very well next to the tequila edition. i hope these beers come back around at some point, but i think they were all one offs for now. a shame, such a cool base beer.

Bottle picked up a while back when released and was turned off from the series after trying the scotch edition and forgot I had this. So why not? Consumed from a mikkeller wine glass.

a - opened with nary a pop and poured a watery black. Looks like no carb.

s - black licorice, super sweetness, red wine.

t/m/o - overwhelming red wine. No carbonation. Kind of like red wine with chocolate in it. Extremely dry and thin. The front of the palate is red wine and the finish is cooling cocoa. I am not a huge fan of dry red wines so this is a waste on me and not my bag. Pretty crazy and complex but more of a science project than anything else.
