A - Some cascading of the head. Very dark brew and a medium dark vert tight head. More Imperial Stout looking.

S - Spice (ie: chipotle), malts and maybe a touch of cocoa.

T - Heavy chipotle, smoke flavor. A touch of malt and cocoa, but not much.

M - Thick for a porter. A spicey burn, as opposed to a tingle, on the tongue and back of throat.

O - Just not my bag. I can see the appeal of the beer if you are into spicey stuff, but I do not want a "burn" from a beer.

A - pitch black with a foamy brown head

S - chocolate, toasty and hints of the spicyness

T- chocolate with that chipotle spice hanging out through the experience; spicy in your throat

M - not a whole lot of carbonation but a little to start and finishing quite smooth; on the thicker side

O - wish there was more chipotle flavor in this. Was hoping it would taste closer to the traditional Mexican molé. Really enjoyable but I suggest sharing it with a friend or two as I did as it would be hard to finish a bomber of this by ones self. I look forward to trying more Mikkeller beers!

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. No clear date on the label. Stamped 6801210, whatever that might mean. Floating cowboy head. 100th review!

A: Very dark, opaque brown with 1 finger of caramel-colored head. Good retention. Lots of lacing. Boom!

S: Dark chocolate, roasted malt, mocha. Nice and assertive. Faint smoky pepper if I strain. Trace indistinct hop. Light booze.

T: Great chocolate, roasted malt sweetness develops into a round, balancing bitterness. Semi-dry finish. Chipotle develops in the aftertaste as a light chili heat - a perfect amount, really. Touch of coffee. Light alcohol.

M: Smooth, moderate/low carbonation with a pretty full body. Very solid.

O: Delicious porter with excellent chocolate notes. Superb treatment of the chipotle-infused heat. A little more smokiness would have sat nicely in the mix, but this was all-around good drinkin'.

Prost!

Appearance: Dark as your soul after cheating on your wife. This porter clearly spent all of its time sleeping on the couch for months waiting to sign divorce papers and give up half of its earnings. A wonderful mocha brown head lingers for a very long time as you drink this porter. If eyes were your only clue to how this beer tasted you would have no reason to believe it wasn’t gooey chocolate paradise. The carbonation isn’t too intense. But, it is definitely more carbonated than a lot of porters.

Smell: It’s a lot like what you’d expect given the name. Spicy nose. Lots of pepper lingering over the top of a great chocolately foundation. Can find a lot coffee roastiness in it as well. Really pleasant kick in the smell.

Taste: Think of biting into a perfect piece of chocolate candy and then out of nowhere, while you’re chewing, chasing it with a chili pepper. That’s exactly how it tastes. It is smooth and velvety at the start, but as soon as you get to the middle of the taste it starts the burn and that lasts all the way down your throat and warms your stomach. Great base of coffee like you’d expect. I could imagine myself drinking this with some canned beans on a fire I made in the Old West with John Wayne. Extremely interesting, and wonderfully spicy.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, but not creamy like a stout. It has the classic bottom dropping out of a porter. Good amount of carbonation in the roof of your mouth.

Overall: Of all sort of gimmicky beers, this is one of my favorites of all time. It is not something I could drink every day because I think I couldn’t deal with the heartburn. But, it is certainly worth the buy any time you see it. And pour one for your friend before he/she knows what you’re giving him/her. They will either love you for life, or hate you for a few minutes until they give you their beer back and you drink it all yourself.
