A - Black with a decent head and a little lacing
S - Coffee, chocolate, smoke, wood, BBQ pork, and a hint of booze
T - Nice but not as intence as the aroma would indicate. Coffee and bitterness from the Cocoa are there, some wood especially in the finish but not much of the bbq pork or smoke which was a bit of a disapointment. Well not too much as I still really enjoyed the beer.
MF - Full bodied with nice carbonation, just letting it sit in my mouth was nice, a bit milkshake(ish) which was great!
O - a great beer that I had been waiting to try and happy I had a bottle. Although I wish the flavor was a bit more intence, I can't really complain. May not be quite as good as the Mikkeller Beer Geek Br Weasel though

On-tap at the Mikkeller pub in Copenhagen. This is a combination of Amager's Hr. Frederiksen and Mikkeller's Beer Geek Brunch.

Pours black with a one-finger brown head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of rich roasted malts with good amounts of dark chocolate and smooth coffee. As the beer warms the aromas sweeten a bit with hints of blackstrap molasses.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Well-integrated roasted malt flavors work well with sweet molasses and mild amounts of dark chocolate. Midway through the sip hints of leafy hops make an appearance before being overtaken by smooth coffee flavors that carry through to a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is very good. It's got a nice thickness with grainy carbonation.

Drinkability is also very good. I finished my glass with no problems and could easily have another.

Overall I enjoyed this beer very much however it's to be expected as both the base beers are exceptional. That being said I'm not sure if the combination of the two makes either one better. Either way, it's a tasty beverage and worth a shot.

A - A gorgeously nice brown head, a real stayer with a good structure. The fluid is pitch black like a moonless night in Zeeland.

S - This is how every beer should smell, near perfect combination of wood, peat, booze, chocolate and coffee.

T - Again wood and peat mixed with a light boozyness, real bitter finish though. This should be sold instead of chocolate milk!

M - A smooth carbonation that goes excellent with the taste. A bit thicker would have helped the body this beer with an extra 0.5 point.

O - A real topper, among the best I have tried.

APPEARANCE- Dark dark brown with a hint of red. A thin tan head with only a bit of lacing.

SMELL- A hint of coffee, a whiff of roasted grain, a touch of brandy...a very subdued nose.

TASTE- Surprisingly bitter...burnt toast, bittersweet chocolate, coffee beans, with raisins and toasted hazelnuts on the fInish.

MOUTHFEEL- Somewhat thin but still clinging like a broth.

OVERALL- Good stuff. The bitterness was unexpected, but was a coffee like bitterness, so it was quite fitting. Definitely worth a try.

Pours dark brown/black with a fast-dissolving light brown bubbly foam.

Dark stone fruits, fresh coffee grounds, roast, and some bitter chocolate.

Chocolate, freshly brewed coffee, vanilla, and tons of roasted chocolate malt.

Heavy-bodied, light carbonation, semi-sweet, bitter roastiness.

Overall, doesn't look that great, but the solid aroma and flavor make this interesting.

Thanks to Adam who brought something to taste that I'd never even heard of, and a nice surprise it was!

Black with a nice dark khaki head.

Nose is all big, rich and full black chocolate and fresh coffee. Tones of creamed coffee and black coffee/bitter black chocolate.

Mouthfeel is rich, full and inviting. Thick like a coffee/chocolate malt.

Flavors are full, rich and assertive black chocolate/coffee and very inviting.

Could be considered big simple coffee. I find a wonderful rich roasted grain/coffee/black chocolate richness that makes this a delightful big drink.

Had on tap at Max's (from notes 6/21/13)

A: Two words: Pitch black.

S: Tar, malt, burnt, roasty and smokey.

T: Talk about hops. I asked one bartender if they had had this before to see what it tasted like and then I asked the one that served me if she had given me the brunch, which she said she did. This really just tastes like a hoppy IPA. I had some mead, a 2.7%/70 IBU IPA, and a saison before this, but I had water and food between them all. I got almost no regular stout flavors like sweetness or malt. It tasted like a black IPA, and the black component of it is the only stout parts you could taste. It was a bit smokey/roasty, but not like a stout. Also, I got pretty much no coffee, you really have to hunt for it and even then it is but a whisper. You get no alcohol burn either. I got very little aftertaste on this one.

M: Very carbonated and crisp.

O: Is this a stout? It was delicious but unlike any other stout I've had before or can at least remember. It reminds me of what fresh bigfoot is to barleywines, just super hoppy and tastes like a dark, malty ipa with some sweetness. This just tasted like a black IPA. Lower Overall just because of Style.

Drank from my Stella tulip.

A - Pours a very deep Ebony colour, withe a two fingered tanned head that slowly reduces to a thick film that laces.

S - From the bottle some nice peated chocolate aromas. Once poured some vanilla aromas come out with some Whiskey fennols.

T - Up, front some very stark vanilla flavours and followed by some decent peated chocolate flavours, the finish is bitter, smokey and earthy but yet the creamyness is maintained.

M - Full body and a little over carbonated on the finish, but still retains its creamyness.

O - A very solid stout that will leave you wanting more. Thouroughly recommended.

The beer is dark dark brown, has a chestnut head a bit uneven leaving some lacing and curtains.

Smelling intensely sweet and roasted, coffee beans, figs, dates, sausages and some earth nuances.

Sweet brown sugar, syrup, burnt bread and wood, fig marmalade, sweet licorice, dark chocolate, bitter coffee beans.

Little carbonation, a thick body, smooth and oily texture, a dry finish.

Well, undoubtedly a lot of effort has gone into this beer, however now it is a bit unbalanced, too sweet and a bit too bitter. Could improve with storage.

Amager / Mikkeller "Hr. Frederiksen Væsel Brunch"

Brewed and bottled at Amager. Imported by the Shelton Bastards. 10.7%. 500ml brown glass bottle with Amager branded silver pry-off cap served cold into a Guinness goblet at high alitude in Castle Rock, CO, and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Reviewed live as an imperial coffee oatmeal stout per the label.

Expectations are sky high; I adore Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: 1 finger wide. Khaki-tan colour. Gorgeously creamy and thick, with a supple soft smooth consistency and a shiny complexion. Full and rolling. Retention is excellent for the high ABV - easily 8+ minutes. Admittedly, it would be more appealing if it were darker and richer, but it's a great head overall.

Leaves a light even coating of lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.

BODY: Opaque solid black. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Overall, it's a good looking imperial stout, but isn't unique or special. I'm craving the first sip.

AROMA: Oatmeal, dark malts, chocolate malt, milk chocolate, cream, a luxurious roasted barley presence, and coffee - with an ideal level of bitterness. Unfortunately, the coffee isn't as intricate as I hoped for given the use of Brunch Weasel in the blend; it's not roasty or rich, and lacks any evocative java character or subtle burnt characteristics. That said, it does improve as the beer comes to temperature, releasing more interesting aromatics of Vietnamese coffee.

Overall, it's a pleasant aroma of mild strength.

No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable. If I experienced it blind, I'd guess this was maybe 8%.

TASTE: Luxurious mocha and coffee notes complement the exquisite roasted barley marvelously. Dark and chocolate malts fill out the body nicely, supporting the mealy oat notes, cream, and subtle milk chocolate beautifully. Slightly burnt, with some subtle dark fruit notes. Subsidiary hints of faint vanilla and caramel. Cakey. Char.

It's very well balanced, though structurally it's sweet in the first half and bitter in the second, lending it an uneven feel. Well-built, with plenty of subtlety and complexity. The Vietnamese coffee lends it some nuance, but I think the coffee's intricacy gets muddled in this blend.

As much as I like it, I do wonder if the whole is more than the sum of its parts; I think I'd enjoy the constituent beers more separate from each other. Or maybe it's just that Brunch Weasel is superior to Amager's component.

No hop profile comes through, nor do any yeast notes.

Good depth of flavour. Average duration and intensity of flavour.

TEXTURE: Creamy, smooth, wet, medium to full bodied, and of ideal thickness. Impossibly soft, lending it an incredible comforting feel on the palate. The smoothening leavening effects of the oats is obvious here, but isn't so extreme as to veer this too close to a porter. Presence on the palate is fantastic, though in fairness it is slightly overcarbonated.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, scratchy, or rough. I'm surprised it hides its ABV as well as it does.

OVERALL: I'm always critical of (non-lambic) blends (I'm looking at you, Firestone Walker and The Bruery), and this - while very good - does seem to be muddled and unfocused, and never quite feels like a gestalt whole. I think Amager's component just plain can't hold a candle to Mikkel's Brunch Weasel - which is one of my favourite beers. This is worth trying, sure, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again. It does hide its ABV well, and it's very drinkable, but the toned-down coffee and the surprisingly smooth mouthfeel lend the build some awkwardness. Certainly a dessert beer. Good but not great.

Incredibly smooth and robust, the collaborative "Brunch" ale between Mikkeller and Amager culminates in a lush and velvety Stout that never discloses its high alcohol.

Its pour is lightly viscous as its black body pours on the glass with a creamy, velvety layering effect. As its cascade settles, the beer releases a creamy and froth espresso-like creme with semi-stern retention and slim lace. The beer prefers a brandy-like legging on the glass as opposed to trailing lace.

Boldly aromatic, the scent of coffee is evident. But not any more so, the notes of chocolate, walnut, and highly roasted barley play on the nose. Cognac-like alcohol aromas emit as does a savory sherry note heading into taste.

Its flavor is bold, robust and masculine. High coffee flavor is met with bitter chocolate flavors for balanced taste. The elements of char, campfire and heavy toast align with slim residual sweetness for a session of dessert-like taste with brandy. A quick vanilla finish is beautiful as it highlights its chocolaty and coffee taste.

But its saving grace rests in its texture. Its sultry-smooth carbonation and residual malts weave into a silky-smooth texture that feels like ribbon gliding across the palate. Finishing warm, the ale is masterfully deceiving in its warmth as cognac strength frames its taste.

Loving this beer, it hides its alcohols sneakingly well. But the malts wrap around the palate for full saturation of flavor for a powerful yet smooth and roasted taste.

Poured from bomber into a small tulip glass. A very dark black with a thin brown head that dissipates but lingers to the end. Lots of coffee on the nose, with some roastiness. Taste is dominated by an excellent coffee flavor and complimented by a nearly perfect mouthfeel. The high alcohol of the beer is completely cloaked leading to the potential to easily overdo it - like I did. Overall, an excellent stout, nearly, but not quite on par with Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

I was lucky enough to finally try this after a recent trade. The decision to crack it open was a good one.

This stout blend pours a dark black with no brown/red hue to be seen. It pours with a luscious head which lasts for a bit. After the head recedes it leaves an inch and a half right around the glass. It has an aroma of dark chocolate cherry cordials. For the taste, bitter dark chocolate, ash, scorched coffee, and light cherry in the background. As for mouthfeel it is a bit over carbonated, but after it sits it becomes very smooth. Overall, this beer is pretty good, but it leaves more to be offerred. I think the burntness it has is slightly overpowering, but it is still a good beer. I think the Weasel gets overpowered by the roasted characters of the Fredickersens. But still a decent stout.

500ml bottle poured into a large snifter.

A: Deep, oily black color. Brown head collapses quickly. Tiny dots of lacing.

S: Dark fudge and double chocolate cake. Lots of plum and black currant darkfruit. Blackstrap molasses. Leather. Earthy coffee has a late onset. Vanilla bean. Wafts of alcohol.

T: Black cocoa powder. Dark fudge washes over the palate. Leathery. Mocha. Earthy coffee with a mild acidity fades in and out. Smokey and acrid tastes of heavily roasted malt build toward the back. Black currant. Strong spike of boozy alcohol. Acrid char and dry chocolate cake on the finish.

M: Thick, rich, chewy, and sludgy. Low carbonation. Very weighty. This is a body that means business.

O: Blending two great beers together can only result in something more awesome, right? Not so much in this case. The blend isn't a terrible one, but there's no cohesion or harmony. It feels as though each beer is trying to fight to maintain its own identity, though they have been forcibly attached to each other. The Amager Imperial Stout comes out the stronger of the two, so the blend leans in that direction more.

Pours black as black gets, impenetrable. Head is ochre; small bubbles and retains excellently. Fed by steady stream of carbonation, with great bead patterns up the glass. Lace is thick and cradles the beer like a precious orb that contains the essence of creation. Just beautiful.

Intense booze whiff hits the nose immediately. As I acclimatise, I get huge chocolatey aroma and a lovely rich spicy coffee aroma. Dark espresso with lots of aniseed, berries and orange peel. Still get that ethanoic whiff through it all though and that could be toned down a tad.

Taste is intense indeed. Huge dark roasty bitterness upfront with strong cocoa-rich chocolate, pepperberries and star anise. Develops a dryness complicated by spice on mid, then huge coffee notes added at the back, big pepper and dark coffee with just a hint of honey as well. Pleasant, but I feel there could be more sweetness to counteract the hot spice of the weasel coffee a bit. It's really quite a hot palate with a bit of a burning sensation.

I actually feel the carbonation as well which inplies it's either a bit thin in the body or just overcarbonated. The heat may just come from the weasel coffee, not the alcohol so much.

Overall a pleasant drop to finish the night. In truth I would prefer to be sharing this bottle with a couple of mates rather than tackling it alone, but it's still manageable and enjoyable.

L: jet black w thin cream brown head. Dissipates with gorgeous lacing. S: fresh pot of coffee, roasty malts. T: toasted almond, cocoa, coffee. F: creamy, not bitter. Coats the tongue w/o being too thick or thin. Great lingering on the tongue. O: as a big fan of brunch weasel I think I would prefer this from now on. Perfect blend

I got this beer in a trade a few months ago. Since then i had it in my beerfridge. Now was the time to open it. Thanks to you Mark!

The beer looks splendid, no other words can be used. The smell is with rich coffee and very well burned malts.

The taste stays behind when i compare this beer with others i had in this style and that is a pity. It is only the coffee and nothing else but the coffee. The bottle was a bit too much to drink for one person. Mouthfeel had some carbonation...

This pours a dark coffee cola with a cocoa colored foam cap.

I found light notes of raisins and plums, oddly enough, with a hint of rummy booze. It doesn't smell very coffee-like, to me. I get more booze/rum in the nose. The flavor is astringent with some harsh coffee notes come across initially, but mellowing out over time. Sharp roast and a drying finish round things out. At first I found it off-putting but over the course of the sipping session it grew on me.

Pours basically a black body (no dark brown in the light here) with a rather sweet aroma as I get touches of vanilla, chocolate and caramel before my nose is bombarded with roasted coffee malts. While I would say that the coffee is the dominant taste in this beer, it is subdued at times and gives way to a sugary sweetness (vanilla, chocolate, caramel). Balance is good and there is a hearty, dry finish to a rather smooth beer.

Another Mikkeller collaboration which im glad to be able to sample and it pours a dark jet cola hue with nice carbonation that leaves behind a two finger mocha laced head and not much lacing,the smells are roasted coffee,dark malts,dark bitter chocolate and a tiny tinge of alcohol,it has an above medium bodied mouthfeel which feels quite filling yet not and is well carbonated and the flavour is pretty much like the smell with tastes of roasted dark malts,dark expresso,smoked wood and finishes with a dark chocolate bitterness,overall its nice and enjoyable without blowing you away definately one for winter though.

The beer bottle has a new or different label on it. Never had Hr. Frederiksens before so I'm not sure if I can really detect it really throughout the beer. The beer geek brunch definitely comes through very heavily though.

Dark black beer with a decent head that disappeared very quickly. Some lace was still left on the glass though.

Smelled very strong of dark chocolate and malt. Expected more of a coffee smell, but it kinda lacked on the coffee side.

Tasted very strong of coffee. Chocolate and dark roasted malt come through also. cant believe how smooth it is at 10.7%abv!

Perfect feel through out the whole beer. Kinda thin, but it thickens up as it warms up.

Overall I like the regular beer geek brunch by itself better, but this beer is still almost just as good!

Bomber size poured to a tulip dark brown near black with a small brown head. Aroma is big earthy coffee, definite hop presence with some pine, chocolate, more coffee. Flavor is interesting with big coffee and pine hops, roast, finishing with silky smooth and sweet milk chocolate. Has a bit of a metallic bent to it. Lingering cocoa and coffee on the palate. Silky smooth mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation and decent heft. Some dry bitterness on the finish. Solid brew, really wasn’t expecting the large hop presence.

A: A finger and a half of dense kahki foam was produced when poured into a snifter. Long retension, the bubbles are small at first but reveal larger as it falls. Pitch black beer with no light coming through even around the edge. Nice lacing with each sip.

S: Clean wood aroma, like walking into a wood shop not the typical oaky barrel aroma. Moderate roasty coffe aroma with a boozy punch in the background. Dark cocoa also detected at warmer temps.

T: A mellow vanilla oak flavor upfront with a solid roasty and dark coffee flavor malt taste blended with a tobacco and burnt sugar (caramelized toffee?) flavor. Chocolate flavors in the after taste are rich and plesent. sweetness is moderate and hop flavors next to zero but the bitterness is balanced.

M: A big chewy body with a cleaner finish. Carbonation is moderate with a low level of alcohol warming. A ashy roast sensation is left on the tongue.

O: I really liked the after taste in the beer with the chocolate flavor being very rich and interesting. The barrel and coffee is very light, probably from being a blend, but if I didn't know it was either I would have thought it was a solid stout.

Thanks to Jeffo for digging this one up and getting it to North America for me. Best before September 1st, 2015. Served in a Drie Fonteinen tulip.

A - Great looking stout. Ample dark tan foam that settles to a thin cap, leaving plenty of splotchy lacework. Body is black, with just the faintest glint of brown at the fringes.

S - The smell is full of chocolate cake, fudge, hazelnuts, and hints of cola and carob. The coffee has certainly faded in the last 18 months, but what remains is far from your typical diner coffee. Instead it's a very rich dark roast the integrates seamlessly with the other flavors.

T - The taste is a bit ashier and lacks the rich chocolate sweetness found in the aroma. There's still plenty of espresso, dark chocolate, and a bit smoke. The finish is slightly burnt, but it avoids the horrendous astringency and burnt tire flavor that plagues some Mikkeller and Amager offerings. Alcohol is extremely well-hidden.

M - The feel is fantastic. Silky-smooth medium-full body, with pleasant medium-low carbonation. The finish is mildly sticky, and lingers lightly on the palate indefinitely.

D - I really enjoyed this for 8oz, but I suspect it would grow a bit fatiguing after that point. Reminds me of the first batch of Brunch Weasel that was vastly superior to the subsequent ones. I'd have this again, if it were easier to acquire.
