Bottle - I get a light amount coffee in nose. I get some hoppiness in the taste. Sweet flavour with caramel, pine, bread, citrus and coffee notes Quite fullbodied, creamy texture and soft carbonation. The finish is more dry with a pleasant bitterness. Im still not sure what to think about this beers. Coffee in an IPA seems weird, but it a lot better than I thought it would be.

Another interesting concept from Mikkeller.Poured a deep hazy burnt orange with a large blooming head that never really completely subsided,a soapy and citrusy hop blast in the nose,a very subtle roasted note after awhile but its really subdued.Again big citric hops on the palate,very fresh and green tasting,the coffee really doesnt play a part until way in the back end providing a roasty caramel tinge.This is a good beer but I gave it a lower overall score because the coffee doesnt really play a role in the beer in my opinion.

On tap at When Pigs Fly. I've never heard of a coffee IPA, so I had to try it.
In a snifter the beer was a hazy amber color. There was a medium-sized tan head that left a sheet of lace. A really sticky beer.
Mostly a straight IPA aroma. Citrus, some piney hops, some sweet malt. I think there was some coffee aroma that appeared late.
Very nice taste. Grapefruit and tangerine. A little bit of piney hops. Unsalted Ritz crackers. And the coffee did make more of an appearance.
Hoppy, but not aggressively so. Did the coffee do that?
Weird but interesting. On the fence about having this again.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange amber with a huge creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a sweet and sour almost bretty twang with some floral earthy hops.
The flavor is sweet malt and some tropical fruit with some floral hop bitterness and a bit of a slight sour/bretty note. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, an interesting beer. It doesn't have the hop notes I normally enjoy (piney, grapefruit). I really get no coffee at all from it - I get more Brett notes which are interesting. If you let it warm and really try, there might be a slight coffee note.

The beer pours a yellow-orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the toffee and bready malt, with some candy hops. I don't get any coffee in the aroma at all, very disappointing.
The flavor is unfortunately more of the same. I get some bread, toffee, grass and candy hops. I also get some sweetness and a light amount of bitterness. If there is any coffee in this beer, I can't taste or smell it. A nice IPA, just not a coffee IPA.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Mikkeller Coffee IPA is overall unique. Not an everyday beer but worth a try.
A: Cloudy orange color with little head.
S: Slight coffee and citrus aroma.
T: Presence of malt. Finish is dry with slight coffee aftertaste. Light hops taste.
M: Not much carbonation.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of May 2014. Picked up recently from Trembling Madness in York. The label states that this is the Tomahawk x Guji Natural version; a blend of hops and Ethiopian coffee.
Poured into a Duvel tulip. A very hazy orange-amber hue with low carbonation. Yields a huge head of frothy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a surface layer. Aroma of bitter roasted coffee beans and light notes of citrus hops with a hint of lemon. Underpinned by subtle caramel malt with a faint sweetness. Quite a restrained aroma, though the raw coffee notes comes across.
Tastes of intense roasted coffee beans and mild aromatic hops, with considerable bitterness on the finish. Raw notes of roasted coffee with a slightly 'green' character - very much a whole, unprocessed bean flavour. Underneath this lie subtler hints of pine and faint citrus hops, accompanied by a caramel malt backbone and a spicy quality. Very dry, with a powerful, astringent bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and spicy, with a lovely, velvety body. Undercarbonated and slightly flat. Highly astrigent, with an aftertaste of bitter coffee beans and aromatic hop notes.
This is fantastic. My initial impression was that the coffee and hop flavours didn't go together, but the blend just grows on you as you drink. Intensely raw, bitter coffee with superb depth of flavour, combined with lighter aromatic hop notes - this is an unparalleled drinking experience. The only minor flaws are the lack of carbonation and the rather uninspiring appearance - but the flavour is where true judgement lies. Mikkeller have done it again; a crazy, over-the-top mix that sounds insane but works brilliantly. I'd grab another if they weren't so damned expensive. If you love coffee and/or extraordinary experiences, then this is the brew for you. Don't pass it up.

Whoa, pours orange. . . never had a coffee beer pour orange, was expecting brown. Aroma doesn't have coffee in it, starting to wonder if there was a mislabled bottle or something. Smells just like a pale or ipa without coffee.
Taste, again, where's the damn coffee? Mildly hoppy. This seems neither an ipa, nor a beer with coffee. What the hell? Lame attempt at explanation from shop keeper was that its the mild Ethiopian coffee and our American palates aren't in tune with it. Yeah, I call bullshit.
As the beer warms, you can find the ever so slight coffee nuance. Extremely disappointing. And to pay $12 for this bottle is even more bullshit. Would not recommend. Says coffee & tomahawk hops on the label, you really have to search the palate to find either one.

On-tap at the Brick Store.
Pours a slightly hazy light copper color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells of pale malts with large amounts of tropical fruit and citrus hops. Also present are hints of grassiness.
Tastes similar to how it smells, though not quite as robust. Moderately sweet pale malt flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by bright tropical fruit flavors. Midway through the sip the hops dry out a bit with the addition of deep citrus and hints of earthiness. Near the end of the sip just a hint of nuttiness comes into play before fading out into a moderately bitter ending.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.
Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.
Overall I was a fan of this beer but got absolutely no coffee out of either the aroma or the flavor profile - the closest component was the faint nuttiness on the back end of the sip. A very good IPA as long as you don't expect any coffee influence.

This beer pours a cloudy dark, shadowy golden brown hue, with a multitude of dense foamy, billowy pale beige head, which leaves some quasi-random, sudsy drooping lace around the glass as it recedes. It smells of musty, dusty citrus hops, biscuit malt, and faint bitter coffee. The taste is more musty, bitter, leafy citrus hops off the top, with some mild fruity coffee maltiness following up. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight for an IPA, and fairly smooth. It finishes with a diminishing bready malt, the coffee and leafy hops bitterness taking up the cause.
The IPA-ness of this offering gets kind of muddled by the coffee influence, which I've seen happen before. It ends up seeming more like a pale ale with a decent, if fairly understated, coffee kick. Which, given the trade-off, is fine by me.

This is the batch brewed with Ethiopian Odoo Shakiso coffee.
Pours a fluffy, dense, tightly-packed off-white head that lasts a long while before going anywhere. The liquid is remarkably hazy and a kind of copper-sunset in color. Good bit of lace is left as well. I'm giving a 4.5 mostly for that beautiful looker of a head.
Nose is definitely IPA all the way, some bright, leafy, green-smelling hops, while the coffee nudges in slightly with earthy, nutty, almost coarse sorts of tones. Not much malt coming into the aroma, and this shows several signs of being plenty edgy, in terms of bitterness. Let's see.
The base of this beer is clearly American-style IPA. The hops have a leafy, drying sort of bitterness, with some tart citrus peel elements coming in and pretty much any fruity type of sweetness totally left out. The coffee does exactly on the tongue what it does in the aroma, and that's provide a slight but significant edge to the flavor. Not too bitter, not too acidic, not too nutty, but a little bit of each. Mildly roasty, but you probably wouldn't know this was made with coffee if you didn't know beforehand. The malt seems to be working here as a shadow component. You know it's there, if only just from the color of the beer (and the fact that most beers are, uh, made with malted grains), but between the hops and the dash of coffee personality, they're nearly invisible. Leaves me with a "west coast IPA" finish, and overall vibe. Just has that particular kind of leafy, aggressive bitterness, if lacking just a bit of the citric sweetness that usually comes with them. Most interesting.
A pretty dry IPA, with the body being on the lighter side (but hardly watery) and slightly sticky, with the carbonation trying to come on strong but only merely caressing the tongue and not slapping it around.
"A+" for effort here, as it's a successful enough experiment with what is now a well-worn (but still wonderful) style. It's just that most of the malt character (and yes, you want some malt character in your IPAs, don't you?) is edged out by the coffee's subtleties and assertiveness of hops. Some sweetness and a slightly more pronounced coffee presence could have done wonders, but is that asking too much? Mikkeller, along with BrewDog, have definitely established themselves as the Dogfish Head of Europe -- long may they meddle!!!

Outstanding blend. Its an IPA all the way, moderated by the subdued coffee flavour. Every so drinkable, Ken's bottle. Masterful blend. Roasted aromas. Dry hoppy as well. Lacey. Some characteristics of a black IPA.Oneof the better beers as of late that I've had.
