Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of red wine and oak notes, as well as some toffee and brown sugar. The flavor is very similar. I get a lot of molasses and fruity red wine notes, as well as some oak, maple, vanilla and the alcohol you would expect in a beer that clocks in at 12 percent. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A nice barleywine.

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store by my wonderful fiancee, and received as a Christmas gift.

Pours a garnet reddish-brown, with a foamy, 1.5 inch head, and a big amount of lacing.

Smells like oak, vinous red wine, caramel, toffee, some slight chocolate, with luckily no boozy aromas at all.

I'm surprised at how little the booze comes through on this one- a lot of review seems to bash that aspect of the beer. Maybe Mikkeller is getting better at hiding that previous flaw in his beer. There's a big red wine presence, but not overwhelming, with dark fruits from both the wine and the barleywine itself- cherry, raisin, and dark grapes, some nutty flavors, a bit of chocolate, toffee and caramel, and oak. As it warms, the wine flavors become more tangy and slightly sour, in a good way. This is a hugely complex barleywine, and honestly, it's quite tasty.

This is a thick and fairly syrupy beer, but luckily it's not overwhelmingly so. There's a pretty low level of carbonation. It's very drinkable despite the heft, and like I stated above, there is no alcohol presence, at all, other than the warmth you get while drinking it.

This is a fine barleywine from Mikkeller. It's frustrating that there are good ones like this, and then there are some pretty bad Mikkeller beers. I guess I'll keep trying because of the possibility of ones like this.

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a North Coast snifter. Thanks to Joe, Matt, Wil, Justin, Jay, Aaron, and Alex for the assist! Honorable mention goes out to Skiba!

A: Pours a deep caramel-y brown with a tiny layer of off white foam on top.

S: Starts off with a blast of candied-fruit sweetness that gradually turns vinous and oaky.

T: Same as above but the transformation from sweet fruit to vinous and oaky was more pronounced.

M: Starts sweet and coating before grabbing a bit of astringent booze. Finishes dry and tidy.

D: A nice wine barrel aged beer that was thankfully free from infection. Can't wait to try the bourbon version.

Small fizzy head, dark murky reddish mahogany brown

Nose sweet candy and toffee, candied raisin, caramel, fig, mild barrel vanilla, molasses candy.

Taste sweet molasses candy, toffee, little warming booze, brandy soaked raisin, mild oxidation, mild grassy hop, little vanilla barrel and hint vinous, touch sour like, little syrupy. Finish is fairly bitter spicy hop, mild booze warmth, long sweet candy toffee and raisin.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, decent carb, nice warming booze.

Overall pretty good other than the mild oxidation, wine barrel is very very light, but that's usually the idea.

Thanks for another Mikkeller tick, Andrew.

A: The pour is amber in color with a fairly tall off-white head for a barleywine.

S: Lots of wine aroma on the nose along with some notes of vanilla. Those are nice, but there is a distinct ethanol note to it as well. A bit of caramel and toffee followed by more booze, oak, and rubber.

T: There is a very harsh oak flavor to the beer which is quite tannic and astringent. A strong bitterness and harsh booze/ethanol heat. Just a touch of red wine to go with the rubber cement.

M: Medium bodied with low carbonation.

O: I just don't know how these beers keep selling. Morbid curiosity, I suppose.

Poured into Devil's Milk snifter.

A - Muddy, murky, reddish-brown, thin soapy head, little lacing.

S - Boozy, Apple, brown sugar, dark fruity, woody, merlot, cider, green raisons.

T - Apple, caramel, tons of oak, booze, maple syrup, burnt sugars.

M - Medium-low carbonation, full bodied, thick, sticky, booze sticks to your mouth.

O - Wonderful sipper, I wish it was snowing and I was drinking this in front of a fireplace!
