A: Pours a slightly hazy amber with a puffy, lingering white head.
S: Assertive aromas of lemon, bitter orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and herbs are present on the nose. Already, I'm liking this one. My anger over the mediocrity of the Cascade and Mt. Hood Single Hop IPAs is slowly subsiding.
T: At first, it's big and bitter on the palate with notes of lemon, grapefruit, bitter orange, peppermint, sage, and lime, but the bitterness of the initial impression is gradually cut by biscuit and caramel notes from the malt. This all leads to an astoundingly well-integrated finish with robust citrus, herb, and biscuit notes.
M: Like virtually all of the other beers in this series, this one is dry, firm, and medium-bodied. The fact that it's not so lacking in flavor reduces the impact of any harsh sensations and makes it seem quite drinkable.
O: I was beginning to fear that the quality of the Single Hop Series was slipping, but this one reaffirmed my faith in Mikkeller at least temporarily. A very nicely crafted IPA that really demonstrates the potential of Galena hops.

11.2 fl oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My seventh beer from the Mikkeller Single Hop series. Scored a whole lot of these beers from Benz Beverage Depot in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for something ridiculous like $1.75 a piece. Expectations are fairly high based upon my previous experience with these beers.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.
A - Pours about two fingers of creamy fluffy beige colored head on top of a dark burnt sienna orange, borderline mahogany colored body. Lots of dark yeast sediment floating at the bottom of the glass. A bit darker than some of the others.
S - Smell resembles many of the others, if just a little bit more subdued. Earthy herbal qualities, dirty twiggy hops, caramelized malt sweetness, oak, & vanilla.
T - Taste follows the nose: earthy twiggy hop presence, herbal qualities, vanilla, oak wood, and some extremely strong, sweet, and authentic caramel / toffee flavors. Perhaps some dark fig / date presence and some nuttiness on the finish.
M - Feel is creamy and smooth, and bitter and dry in the finish, with some lingering herbal earthiness & green apple skin sweetness.
Overall, while it wasn't the best I've had, definitely one of the more unique beers in the Mikkeller Single Hop series. A very distinctive, off-kilter variety of hop is showcased here, and very nicely at that. A hop variety I would like to see used more often.
