A: A hazy amber pour with a huge foamy off-white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing when it finally settles down.

S: Smell is great, especially for a single hop IPA. Nice citrus aroma punctuated maybe with a little caramel.

T: Surprisingly good and complex for such a simple beer. It's easy to see why everyone loves Citra nowadays. Lots of citrus like the nose, with some resinous pine too. A little bready malt follows it up to balance it out.

M: Not bad. A little mouth-coating oil sensation that sticks around for a bit. Bitterness is not too harsh.

O: As mentioned, surprisingly complex and well-balanced given the simple recipe. Most of the single hop IPAs are just experiments and are intriguing to try but tend to lack depth. This one is that and more - it's also quite good and easy to drink at the same time. I think this is the best single hop I've tried thus far.

pours hazy full of sediment dark copper orange with a 2 finger pillowy head that left lacing down the glass

smells very fruity peach pineapple orange grapefruit

taste is like the nose lots of fruity hops with a good amount of malt backbone

mouthfeel - medium body with good amount of carbonation

overall - finally a single hop beer from mikkeller that does not fall short - however i can only imagine what other breweries could do with the citra hop and at a much lower price

From a 330 ml brown bottle. Pours out a deep cloudy marmalade hue, tall rocky off-white head with intense retention.

Spicy leafy notes with grapefruit rind on the nose, while lemon and tangerine float in the background. Very faint grainy malt present.

Sweet cakey malt is immediately eclipsed by puckering citrus and herbal hop notes, building in intensity towards the finish with a more pith and rind character. Grapefruit rind assertively lingers on in the aftertaste.

On the fuller side of medium-bodied, slippery and full texture, with low yet still present carbonation.

A decent showcase for the Citra hop varietal, yet overall and overly lop-sided IPA. For those craving a hop fix or to check out what the Citra has to offer.

A hazy dark amber beer, an off-white head, good lacing, small curtains.

Lemon, pine, resin and bread. Very Citra!

The taste is also very Citra dominated. Brown sweet bread, toffee, lemon, pine resin and needles, very good bitterness.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft, big body, a dry finish.

A nice well hopped brew, surprisingly balanced for a single hop.

Bottle brought down from NYC. Reviewed from notes. Poured from 11.2 oz. bottle with no freshness information into a TBBC pint glass.

A: Pours a fairly dark copper, hazy to almost opaque. A low amount of visible carbonation still leads to a one-finger white head.

S: Bready and toasted caramel sweet malts, some floral and citrus pith hop aromas, and a bit of sweet booze.

T: Malt forward, with toasted bready malts, caramel and toffee, with a moderate citrus pith and pine hop presence. Moderate bitterness in the hang.

M: Average body and mouthfeel for style. Moderate carbonation sensation, and the alcohol seems more noticeable than it should be.

O: This wasn't horrible by any stretch, but I won't have another. More malt forward than expected with way less of the nice Citra flavors that you would want in this beer.

I had at Beer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

A. It is hazy semi-opaque and has a caramel color. Decent foamy tan/white head.

S. Extremely strong fruity scent. Kind of pear, but more citrus.

T. This has a Sprite kind of taste to it. Fruity like a jollyrancher. Some citrus. A feel of banana. Very unique taste. A bit of a malty feel.

M. Smooth and full bodied.

O. For an IPA, not my kind of style that I prefer. A bit too fruity and smooth without enough bite.

Golden amber in color, thick white head (you could create a sculpture with it!).

Spicy, citrusy, and sweet smell. Very banana-like...lots of other fruit-like notes (like a fruit cocktail...).

Glass-smooth mouthfeel. Light and refreshing. Strong malt taste with a refreshing light fruitiness in the background. Solid bitterness in the finish - not too light, not too strong...

Another interesting single-hop IPA from Mikkeller. There is a certain lightness overall, probably due to this hop variety, yet there is still plenty of traditional IPA malt sweetness and body with a decent enough IPA bitterness. Different but intriguingly interesting...

Wanted to get to know this hop.

It pours like any of the other of this series.

The smell does bring notes of lemongrass, lemon curd, lemon gum drops, and some lime zest. The beer is obviously maltier now than fresh but you can get the gist of the hop.

The flavor is definitely still bitter. This hop is a milder one imo. Very much cirtus rindy. Definitely not something that I think is a good one for single hopping but for bitterness and citrusness along with a more torpical one for most of the flavor.

Not bad.

A: A very musty brownish orange with a very solid ivory two finger head.

S: Citra. That about sums it up.

T: Very bitter on the front end of the beer. Then citrusy fruits begin to emerge like grapefruit and a little bit of orange. Not a lot of malt to back up the hops though.

M: Very good. Fills the mouth well and has excellent carbonation.

O: A good beer but probably not worth the price ($5.19).

11.2 fl oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My eighth beer from the Mikkeller Single Hop series. My bottle lists a 6.80% abv rather than the 6.90% abv listed on BeerAdvocate. Expectations are high based upon my experience with the others.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Woah, pours about five to six fingers of giant towering beige froth. Body is a dark burnt sienna orange / borderline mahogany color. Looks like all the others, except for the massive collection of dark yeast chunks sinking to the bottom of the glass. Definitely off-putting and clearly this much chunky yeast sediment wasn't intentional. Some nice streaks of lacing. Doesn't look bad, aside from the disturbing amount of yeast chunks.

S - Smell isn't off or strange in any way, despite the ridiculously muddled appearance. Smells of earthiness, twigs, wood, cream, vanilla, hint of yeast in the nose. Smells a lot like all the others.

T - Taste isn't noticeably off or ruined in any way either. Tastes much like the others. Earthiness, dried leaves, creamy vanilla, wood, caramelized malts.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with some mild bitterness and green apple skin stickiness lingering on the palate.

Overall, not too much different than any of the others, aside from the entirely nauseating appearance which, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt, was an accident. Please excuse me while I go find my strainer.

11.2oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. "8231103" on the cap, not really sure what this indicates.

pours out a rather cloudy deep golden orange color, somewhat amber. big, frothy off white head, maybe 2 fingers. some very nice thick retention and lots of nice lace stick to the glass.

i was expecting a citrus assault on the nose, but to my surprise this is a pretty balanced smelling IPA. pretty metallic at first. a lighter grapefruit citrus melds with a biscuity malt, slight fruity esters and a hint of resin.

no real hop flavors shine here, a bit of a letdown. theres a little resinous grapefruit, maybe a hint of pine. also kind of a woody hop character is noticable. biscuity caramel malt balances things out. bitterness throughout but definatly nothing kicking your teeth in.

heavier side of medium bodied with a slight resinous, sticky feel.

citra hops, the new variety on the market that seems to be all the rage. ive really enjoyed this hop in all the beers ive had it in (ithaca-13, torpedo, etc.), but this didnt do it for me. hardly any of the wonderful characteristics of this hop shine in this beer, too balanced. perhaps this was better fresher? the chinook and cascade single hop beers from the last batch were much better than this. kind of a letdown...

Pours a caramel brown dark honey, good white head and good lacing.

S - pineapple, big tropical fruit aromas, berries, caramel malt and a nutty hop aroma, full and a bit of sweet pine and a touch of grapefruit, complex but you have to work to get at it.

T - thick fruitiness, dry tannins, lime and dry tropical and nutty and a bit of leather dryness on the finish. Apple, melon, orange, mango, and a full dryness and balanced bitter finish.

M - big feel but really pleasant, moderate carbonation and a bit of malty sweetness, slight bit of hop oils. Drying finish.

Thick rounded flavour, rich citrus and some earthy character on the finish. Enjoyable, with a nice showcase of the citra, as an IPA it really tasty but there are some things about the finish and balance that fall below amazing, still one of the better citra ipas Ive tried. Really crisp and nice character.
