A big, three-inch head is short-lived and rocky, leaving a fine lace coating over a cloudy, honey-gold to brownish beer.
Alcohol fumes are quite present lifting pine nibs into the olfactory.
Mild with low bitterness that is surprising and perhaps a result of sampling alongside the Galena. This will be tried again later to judge on its own. Flavors of apricot were discernible.
A full-bodied beer with less alcohol than expected from the nose. A wooly texture and ample carbonation.
Magnum was enjoyed as part of a self-training exercise to distinguish between the hop varieties. Any meal would be complimented by this beer.
Sampled from a Pint glass alongside the Galena Single Hop IPA.
The second sampling found Magnum to be quite bitter as originally expected, however, the fruit flavors were muddled.

This is a pretty decent ipa. Thick malt base with a floral and very soft hop spice and flavor profile to it. Smooth liquid feel, though the carbonation hits a bit too much from time to time. Not too shabby. I can dig it. Certainly beats most of the other single hopped beers from Mikkeller.

Poured from a bottle into a Dogfish snifter
A- pours a cloudy shade of dark orange, almost brown, with a paper thin white head. Much less of a head than the rest of the single hops, so I have to knock it down another notch
S- pretty nice aroma of tropical fruits, but it's a little bit of a weak aroma. Smells nice, just a little muted
T- interesting taste...a little bit of tropical fruit, a little bit of a flowery, perfumey type taste, and the finish is a little bitter. Very complex and interesting
M- medium bodied. Solid
O- looks ugly, tastes very, very good. I want this on tap, because it would probably be out of this world

A: Pours a hazy amber with a thick, fluffy off-white head.
S: Aromas of caramel, biscuits, orange, lemon, and lime zest are present on the nose.
T: Notes of caramel, biscuits, grass, orange, lemon, lime zest, and grapefruit rind wash across the palate. The finish is extremely bitter with grass, lime zest, and grapefruit rind flavors.
M: Medium-bodied and relatively dry, but not as much so as some of the other beers in this series. Carbonation is relatively gentle.
O: This is a pretty decent, but also pretty crude, IPA. Magnum hops tend to be all about the bitterness, and it shows in this beer. This is the first brew I've had that uses Magnum hops exclusively, and I'm beginning to suspect that there is a reason for this. Compared to the other IPAs in this series, the flavors were a bit muddy, but if you're a fan of extremely bitter IPAs like I am, then this is forgivable.

out of control head even on an easy pour, I had to stop pouring otherwise this would be all over my keyboard, on the final pour it still stands at 2 fingers of craggy soap like foam, murky subdued orange hue with some steady carbonation lazily making it's way to the fluff pillow capping this one, lacing is OK. this is a good looking beer.
this almost smells like fluggel hops amped up, it has that sweet smell rather than a piney/citric/herbal smell, it places nicely on a bready undertone, reminds me of some ESBs, pretty straight forward but well executed.
nice and bright carbonation, absolutely perfect for the style in my opinion, with the nose I was expecting sort of a mild euro tone but this is quite happening in the mouth, this one is very well balanced between the bitterness and the malt. the alcohol is only slightly detected. this beer does not have a bad note in it, nothing is spectacular except for how consistent and pleasant it is overall, this is really drinkable but has a good amount of hop character lingering in the after taste... this one begs for another sip.
I actually don't recall how much this cost, but damn this is a fine tasty beer, go get some, it is a really nice IPA.
how about them cowboys? hah ! g-men rule ! 31-14

A - Very nice coppery caramel color. Full, light, pillowy, frothy, white head. Great retention leaving a nice lacing.
S - Nice pine and floral/herbal aroma. Not strongly grassy, but there are hints of grass. Also some spice. A nice caramel malt base.
T - Similar to the nose. A strong pine flavor with a strong sticky resinous flavor on the finish. Herbal and spicy hop flavor throughout as well. Hints of an earthy hop flavor in the undertones. A very subtle caramel malt provides a nice undertone throughout.
M - Medium body but it can tread toward thin sometimes. High carbonations. Sticky finish that just coats your mouth.
D - Pretty good IPA that isn't just one not despite using just one hop strain. A little strong on the pine and resin flavor. Has a good substance to it though.
Notes: A nice display of the hops. Plenty of different notes compete throughout. Strong pine and resin but it is more than a one note IPA. Don't know if I'd get it again for the price, but it was a nice display of the hops.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is pretty nice. I get some apricot and other tropical fruit notes, as well as some grass and a little bit of biscuit malt.
The flavor is similar. The two dominant hop flavors are apricots and grass. The bitterness is pretty low due to the toffee and caramel malt notes that are in the flavor.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a coppery color and a slightly hazy texture. There was an inch of creamy, long-lasting head. Average lacing.
S: A very hoppy aroma, with some traces of citrus as well.
T: Tasted mainly of hops - lots of hops - with some citrus, malt, and a floral qualities. A decent, well-balanced flavor, but won't win any awards for originality.
M: A well-carbonated beer with a slightly slick finish. Medium-bodied.
O: On the whole, a nicely done beer. Very easy to drink.

Cap numbered 8171103! Served from bottle into Stone nonic. Poured yellow-orange with a four and a half finger off-white head that subsided to one finger slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, tropical fruit, citrus, citrus hop, fruit hop, and floral notes. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, citrus, citrus hop, and floral hop. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. Based on some of the offerings I've had in this series I don't go into most of them expecting much, but this one surprised me quite nicely. The aroma on this one was really good with the citrus aspects mixed in with the nice floral notes. The flavor continued this fact which made this one quite enjoyable. I would drink this one again, which is saying something considering how most of these in the series are mediocre brews at best.

Next in line of the series...
Same appearance as all the others except a slightly less fluffy head than usual. But still the head surpasses most IPAs I've had in size and texture. Mouthfeel is the same as all the other ones in the series.
Magnum smells of orange peel with large bursts of peppery spice going off like fireworks in the sky to my nose. I approve. :)
Taste is more leaning towards earthy bitterness, but more subtle on the peppery spice notes than the nose would lead you to believe. I sort of wish it was as peppery as advertised by smell...oh well. Orange peel comes back around to say hello to me on the finish end of the sip... pretty good for a single hop IPA.

Another in a long line of IPAs from the Mikkeller people, someone's dissertation or something from De Proef. The title of the dissertation "How to sell mediocre IPAs to the world: a study in single hop additions in the generation of unpalatable beers"
Served in a snifter at Churchkey in DC. Beer is reddish and clear with a tiny, monolayed white head that leaves a little bit of lacing on the glass but is lowly carbonated.
Aroma of the beer is earthy and mildly hoppy, NICE HOPS!!! Lots of malt and some alcohol still.
Beer is medium in body and finishes with a mild dryness and moderate bitterness. The midpalate of the beer is piny and strong with hop flavor and alcohol. Interesting. I liked this one more than most but it wasn't my favorite. I may have even mistaken this for an actual IPA in a blind taste test.

A: A slightly hazy amber pour. Foamy off-white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing eventually.
S: Pretty subtle aroma. Barely able to discern much over the bready malt. Some orange and a little grapefruit is about it.
T: Like the smell, the taste is pretty mild. Bready malt is there, the hops are a bit stronger but still not like I was expecting. Grapefruit and pine mostly.
M: Mid-range mouthfeel. Bitterness is pretty apparent and carries through to the aftertaste. A little oil sensation sticks around too.
O: Pretty mild but drinkable. I could drink a bunch of these. Not as overpowering as some of the other single hops - some of which were almost hard to drink.

11.2oz poured side by side with Columbus and Mt. Hood versions.
This is definitely the most impressive looking of the three as it has a clear amber body with a big white head that shows fantastic retention and lacing. There's a one inch cap 10 minutes after the pour.
Aroma is tamer than the Columbus for sure with little in the way of citrus and more earthy notes with some grass and light grains. Light biscuity malts as well.
The taste is also tame with a tad more oranges and grapefruit but it's still mostly sweet malts and bread with earthy hops on top. The finish is dry and bitter.
The mouthfeel is like the rest of the series with high carbonation and medium body.
This is my least favorite of the three overall though it looks great. It's just not all that distinctive in the taste. Pretty good IPA though.
